To explain on how Mediumship works, this will need at least a few months to years to talk about. tongue.gif

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Engaging of Ge Tai is a new form of entertainment for the Deities or on big celebration, maybe I shall said that it is a form of entertainment more to human then to the Deities.
In the past, only celebrations in the Seventh Month, Ge Tais are engaged, but now, more and more big celebrations of Deities birthday also engaged them, this is a sign of culture changing and also the needs of human have increased from normal, boring, dull traditional cultures are going down-slope.
Hi Kelby10!
There's a book by Margaret Chan titled "Ritual's theatre; Theatre's ritual". Very informative on Tangkis matters. It's a book (an thesis, actually) on Tangki worship, thus it would answer most of your query on Tangki.
On getai....well, personally it's only for human's entertainments. How do I know?...I'have asked a few deities (during their festivals) and most answered best is those string puppets or wayang shows.
Please enjoy here and do not hesitate to ask anything. Most bros n sis here are very mature and will surely try best to answer your questions or request.
Happy surfing!
hi kelby10,
Been visiting alot of these Dang ki birthday First of all, these festivals are held not to celebrate the dang ki's(temple medium) birthday, they are held to celebrate the (days dedicated to various deities to commemorate their days of attainment of deityhood,enlightment etc) of the deities that the various temples pray to.
usually they have ge tai Ya, nowadays, Getai is the more popular choice becoz of commercialism n as a form of appreciation show for the temple's sponsors n kind hearted followers for their donations.
how come there are so many dua ya peh do u mean to ask why alot of temples pray to Dua Ya Peh? if so, it is becoz, most temples have a netherworld section, n dua ya peh is 1 of the netherworld constables. It's existence in the temple is primarily to 'remind' temple visitors not to stray into the wrong path, something like a scare tactic. N to fulfil the Tian Di n Ren that taoism encompasses.
TIAN represented by the heavenly gods e.g Jade Emporer, Di represented by the land netherworld God's, e.g Cheng Huang as the emporer of land. Ren is of cos represented by the human existence in the temples, the visitors to the temples n the various pratitioners of taoism( priests, mediums)
Could anyone explain to me more about these Dang Ki practises....like how are they being selected, the ritual, how realistic are them...are they the real god?
This is a very subjective question, traditionally, Dang Ki's go through a stringent 'apprenticeship' to learn the the ropes of mediumship from a master, the master will than decide and chose, if there are more than 1 disciple, who makes the cut as a dang ki and will proceed on to guide him thro the process of 'lending the body' to the gods. This usually takes years, as would be Dang Ki's would have to be trained 1st in various taoist rituals n cultivation.
Some mediums are 'approached' by the gods themselves, as what we normally say in laymen terms, these pple has ɹ or the god's bone that makes them suitable as a medium for the gods to pass on their message.Even these pple picked by the gods need guidance from a master to learn the the ropes of mediumship properly.
Nowadays, Taosim followers numbers has fallen and predictably, so will be the number of mediums goin around. Due to this, alot of temples are having n getting young n inexperienced boys to become dang ki's. they are usually put through a crash course n thrown straight into the fray to see whether or not the spirit of the gods will possese them. If it does, than good for them, if it doesnt, than it means they dun make the cut. Most of the time,becos of the nature they were brought into the mediumship circle, these new age mediums do not possese high personal religious cultivation of their own, leading to some pple calling them Yew Keng mediums.
Think of mediumship as a person driving a car.
The god is the driver, n the medium the car.
For the driver who needs to do well in a race or drive well, he needs a properly oiled n tuned car, with a good engine n internals to last the distance n withstand the race. With this combination,everytime they are on the road or in any race, they will go out with confidence n perform well n up to expectations.
In another case, u could still have the same driver, n a car that looks really good n cool outside, with the latest car bodykits n such. But with a engine that has not even be run-in, and car specifications not good even for a race. The driver can still drive the car, but it will still only remain as a good looking car who cannot make the mark performance wise.
I often hear pple saying this dangki zhun , that dangki buay zhun, i hope the above analogue can satisfy bith ur question, n those pple's opinion, but a very large part, on your asking of whether they are real n how realistic are they,will still be very much based on your own personal views n taking n acceptance on the matter.
This is due to human greed. Dua/li kor's kindness is taken advantage of. Dua/Li kor pain to see human suffering thus give 4D as a quick fix which bring more peoples asking for 4D luck!
How are these greedy peoples going to pay back?????
U cant blame them for being greedy as our living standard keep rising due to various factors. Thus their only outlet to keep up with rising standard is to ask for a windfall through lottery. They only care for their well being rather than the principle of worshipping towards the deity. Even temples become commercialise inorder to stay floating or else they will drown.
Haha...I am a buddist..and I study buddhism....dreamt of a golden buddha when i was young...think I am potential in the teaching so I pick up yrs ago...but I do have interest in all religions......I dun C throug...just that I do not persist and have ignorance perspective..
Back to the buddha..dangki....heard a friend said..its a different platform and buddha do not pocess or find a medium to act nor to give teaching to us....so its like what the above mention the dua ye peh is the trend now.....
Will go find the book.....
