The Great Kart Race, Short Read

(Based on Mario Kart)

Prologue (A skip ahead. Also pretty short. Other chapters should be a bit longer, but not too long to where people won't want to read it)

The kart raced up the track. Mario was driving, Luigi on back. Mushroom in hand, Luigi knew what he had to do. He used the mushroom, and they zoomed ahead. Mario drifted for a second, and they got into second place. But it was the last lap, and they didnt have much time to take first and win.
"Mario, switch!" Luigi called, over the drone of the engine
"Whatever you say.." They switched, and Luigi then jammed on the gas.
"Luigi, at that speed we will never make the turn!" Mario called
"Trust me.." Luigi said, but it was barely audible over the engine, which was pushing the kart as hard as it could. They leaned to the left, hoping not to veer left and miss the turn, which would cost them the race. Then, the wheel slipped, and they were spinning...moving faster than before. At this rate they would easily overtake the person in first, who was taking the turn cautiously, but Mario had no clue if they would make the turn. Things were looking grim.
But then Luigi pulled out his trump card...

Chapter 1- The Letter
"Hey, Mario, we get some letters," Luigi said.
"We get a lot of letters...bills, that I have to pay...your just to lazy to check the mail usually" Mario said. "Oh, and I do try to tell you about these letters, but you ignore me."
"Sorry, sorry. But still, I'm going to look through them" Luigi said, shuffling through the letters. He had a feeling something would be in there.
"Suit yourself," Mario said, popping a "Mushroom Cola" open. He took a few sips.
"Hey, we got invited to a kart tournament!" Luigi exclaimed.
"Again? We've already had one before....and I won might I add" Mario said triumphantly.
"But this is different...we are going to race together" Luigi replied.
"Wait, what?"
"Our karts, we need to combine them to make a two-man kart" Luigi said
"Wow, never done that before" Mario replied
"Yea, we haven't. It would be fun, something new. And get this, the prize is an all expense paid trip to the Trimen Islands for four...meaning you could take Peach and I could take Daisy" Luigi said, giving a wink.
"Yea..." Mario said, hands on his chin.


Chapter 2- Building a Kart
"So, Fred, what do you got for us?" Mario asked.
"Only the best for my best costumer!" replied Fred the Toad. He was the local mechanic and auto part seller.
"Nice!" Mario said, looking at his new engine.
"Yea, I ordered it. I didn't have an engine that can carry two men on hand. Most poeple don't."
"Yea, thanks!" Mario said. He payed the man then left.
Mario arrived back home a couple minutes later. He put the engine into the new frame that was made from parts of Mario and Luigi's old karts. He had also bought some other things, including a new type of wheel that was much better than his old. It had much better traction on the type of surfaces they raced on. Moo Moo farm among other places would be much easier now to race in now.
After putting in the engine, he had to add the seat. His idea for the kart was to have one person driving, the other using mushrooms or turtle shells on the back. This was perfect, as Luigi was good at the latter and Mario was a good driver.
"Wait, where is Luigi?? Hes making ame do this all by myself" Mario said, his italian accent prominent. He had forgotten about Luigi. His brother had left to get some paint, but he had been taking a very long time. The paint store was only about 10 minutes away, his brother had been gone for at least 3 hours. "Maybe I should go check on him.." Mario thought to himself.
Mario got up and started walking towards the paint store, after locking up the house. A fireflower stuck out of his back pocket..


I posted this on Nsider, and didn't really get to finish it. Still, its not a long read, and I posted it here because you might want to read. I may do chap 3 soon

Chapter 3

You see, it just so happened that the paint store was right next to the "Koopa Cafe". Seeing Luigi alone, the Koopa gang (7 Koopas that hang out at the cafe among other places) couldn't pass up their chance.
Luigi was way outnumbered, and so when Mario arrived, Luigi was tied to a pole. "Mario, where have you a'been!!!?? It was horrible, what they did to me.."
"Mamamia Luigi! What happened!"
Luigi told the story, and Mario got him down. "We will get those Koopa idiots back. But for now, lets get the paint and continue on the kart....actually, you can go home and rest for now, I'll get the paint," Mario said.
Mario grabbed the paint. The Kart would be blue, red, and green. They had a cool design already made up.
As Mario walked out, carrying the paint buckets, he tripped over something. One of The paint buckets hit the ground hard, and busted. It got all over Mario.
Mad, Mario looked to see what he tripped on. There, was one of the koopas from the gang. "Its you!"
"We are going to do to you what we did to your brother. It will be fun, hehe"
"You and what army?" he said to the lone koopa.
"That one," the koopa said, pointing behind him. Mario looked back and there were the other six. He said nothing, though in his mind, basically he said "Oh shi-"
"Lets get him boys," one of them said. They charged at Mario. He didn't know what to do, but he then remembered the fireflower. He grabbed it, jumped up avoiding the koopas, and ate the flower.
He fell, spinning, fire coming from his hands. The koopas jumped back. "Run!" one said. They scattered, but not before Mario hit one. It was the one that tripped him.
"Hi," Mario said, an evil grin on his face.
"Dont hurt me!"
"Oh, I'll try not to."
Mario knocked off the koopas shell, then grabbed what was left of the spilled paint can, and poured it on the kooopa.
"Thats for a'getting paint all o'er my new overalls!"
Mario then grabbed two coins out of the shell. "And this is the cost of the paint, thanks for paying me back"
Mario went back, and bought the paint. He then walked home. The Koopa gang didn't bother him.

It's okay. That was a good chapter. Reminded me a bit about the old Mario Mafia back on the Nsider Forums.

Chapter 4

Mario and Luigi looked at their handiwork.
"I like it," Luigi said.
"I did most of the work" Mario said.
"Hey, I painted it!"
"Well, that is really hard work to paint it, not like the easy job of putting it together. I mean, you deserve the credit" Mario said sarcastically.
They got it together for the first test run. It looked nice, it had an M and an L on the front, the M in red and L in green, with a white circle around it. The rest of the cart was a blend of red, blue, and green. Mostly Blue. They hadn't saw how it would run yet.
Mario got in, Luigi got on back. Mario started it up. The engine didn't start at first. Mario tried again, and on his third try it came on.
Mario started down the street. It went pretty fast, though not as fast as they wanted. They hadn't completely finished, a few adjusments were needed.
They went down a hill. Mario looked back to make sure Luigi was doing fine. Because he did this, he didn't see the pothole that came up. The Kart hit it hard, and it didn't have good suspension, and it messed up the kart.
"Mammamia! Whatever we gonna do!" Mario said.
"I could help," Mario heard someone say. He looked up to see an old friend.

Yay I finally made a new chapter. Though its really short

A pothole destroyed the kart? Mario and Luigi had better get some stronger building materials. Either that, or this new mystery person hopefully knows a lot about kart-building.

Chapter 5

Meanwhile...
"Peach, we shouldn't have to do this! Too much work!"
"But we want to win that vacation Daisy!"
"Still, I'm getting my dress all dirty"
"We get to take Mario and Luigi with us!"
"But Luigi has seemed to be ignoring me lately, they have been really busy or something, no time for me"
"Yea, same with Mario. But they said it was something important. So don't worry about it"
Peach and Daisy were planning to partner up for the race, as they got invited too. But, they had been told Mario and Luigi weren't going to enter the race. Someone had fabricated a message saying that the two had been invited, but decided not to. They would support Daisy and Peach though. The message also said they were really busy and couldn't talk for a while. Who would have fabricated the message?

At the same time..
Jr. looked at his dad.
"So you think we can win?"
"Of course! Who would beat us? Mario? Psh"
"I guess your right"
The spiked kart they had made could emit flames. It was a cool kart, Jr. loved it. But, could it win?

Insert another overused meanwhile substitute followed by a ....
The two cloaked figures quickly and swiftly got to work on the kart. Except it wasn't there kart. They had snuck into the garage. They were sabatoging another kart.....



May seem kinda like I rushed it. I didn't really like this chapter but I need to update more often so...

Chapter 6

"Professor! I haven't seen you in a long time!" Luigi exclaimed.
"Yea, its been a while," Mario said, "What have you been up to?"
"Not a whole lot. Anyways, I think I can help you out. I used to fix up karts back in the old days as a side job" Prof. E Gadd said.
"Really? Wow, thanks" Luigi said.
"Well, you need better suspension. I got just the thing. A while ago I invented a new type of suspension. The driver I made it for didn't like it. I have refined it over time. Here, I'll take the kart back to my garage and I will see what I can do."
"Alright" Luigi said.

So Prof. E Gadd. took the kart while Mario and Luigi went to get something to eat. They opted for Mexican food. They were tired of Italian food.

Prof. worked on it well into the night until he fell asleep on the job. He didn't mind helping out some old friends.


Super short chapter. Longer one next. Im the biggest procrastinator when it comes to this

Hah, Mexican food. I guess instead of mushrooms making you big, the next power up could be tortillas, which make you 2-dimensional and allow you to pass through walls. Or something like that.
