This is the NEW, SHINY official thread for all NOSL games played for the first season (and maybe beyond)! From now on, all results, rosters, schedules, expert predictions, statistics, team information, and other NOSL related crap can be found here.
This is going to be very similar to the NBL; in fact, I stole the first post from there. This will be the NBL, but with soccer, and no claiming franchises. Anyone who wants to join can start claiming and giving names to their teams now, and we'll hold a draft of all Nintendo characters on June 16th. I'm going on a trip after that, so we'll start this up on June 27th, and play a 25 game schedule, with 3 intra-division games, 2 inter-division games, and 1 inter-conference game against each team.
Preliminary Time Schedule:
June 5, 2007-June 15, 2007: Claiming and naming teams, stadiums, fan clubs

I am sure that none of you know the rules by now, but, here are the guidelines as far as team construction is concerned.
Each team is made up of at least 8 members, no more than 12. Of these players, at least 3 of them must be goalies.
Each team is allowed 20 million to spend on players, and each team is required to spend at least 6 million. The superstar maximum that can be spent on any individual player is 4 million per season. Player contracts can only be up to 3 seasons in length, and depending on the length of the contract a player must be paid according to a descending scale:
3 year contract - player makes at least 2.5 million/season - each team is allowed 2 3 year contracts
2 year contract - player makes at least 1.25 million/season - each team is allowed 4 2 year contracts in addition to the 3 year contracts
1 year contract - player makes at least NOSL minimum of 400K
Once a player signs a contract, the team must honor that contract for its duration. There is no renogotiation of salaries, although teams may redo contracts in case of a contract dispute/holdout. Contract disputes are rare, and will usually only happen in the case of a role player who is under contract having a career year and demanding more money.
After the 25 game season, the division winners and the next two best teams make the playoffs, with the division winners taking the top two seeds. There will be three rounds of playoffs that culminate in the Nintendo Outdoor Soccer League Championship
Teams receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a sudden death or shootout loss, and 0 points for a regulation loss
What people must do on game day to win:
1. Post your lineup, formation and team philosophy (offensive, defensive, etc.) on the given day. This determines matchups, which is key when doing the simulation.
2. Post your hotstreak player (1), this is the player who is riding momentum on that given day, and the gamebreaker that could lead your team to victory. Depending on your strategy and the makeup of your team, your hotstreak player could be a goalie...or not.
3. Don't panic if your team gets into a slump. The rises and falls of the season are a given, what you do over the whole 25 game season is of much greater importance. Keep that in mind.
4. The players on the field are 1 goalie and 4 other players, who can be arranged at any position (Defender, Midfielder, Striker) with no more than 2 players at each position. Formation is denoted with a Defender-Midfielder-Striker pattern; that is, a 1-2-1 pattern would be 1 Defender, 2 Midfielders, 1 Striker.
If you've got any questions, ask, I sort of suck at making opening posts to stuff.

The letters are really just placeholders until the team gets picked, you don't need that if you don't want it
Scouting Reports (I'll try to get a few out every day until I run out of major characters)
Note: These are really just trying to point out a good and bad thing about them, they're not as almost perfect as they seem:
Amy Rose- One of the slower strikers, but good at finding the back of the net
Zelda- Makes some shots that leave you scratching your head, but is prone to losing the ball to the defense
Luigi- A pretty creative player who's good at finding shots most people can't, but is usually at a high risk for injury
Kirby- Quick, but has a light foot
Pikachu- Kirby, plus lightning
Ike- Fast and explosive, but still has to keep field boundaries in mind
Sonic- A good two-way player, with decent speed who can play at striker or midfielder, and get back to cover on defense, but erratic passing
Link- Great ball control, but a tendency to throw up hands instinctively, which leads to some handballs
Mario- A decent midfielder, but has a tendency to try to play every position on the field
Waddle Dee- Decent at getting the ball up to the strikers, but not someone you want to build your offense around
Tangela- Pretty good at whipping the ball around
Gerik- Solid midfielder who struggles a little in aggressiveness
Knuckles- Tough player who's not afraid to get into it, which could lead to some yellow and red cards
Impa- Has the *cough* unique ability to...uh, clear people out of her general area *cough*, but, on the downside, she's a fatty
Wario- Not afraid to get physical, and good at clearing balls, but has racked up an average of 1 red card every 3 games in his career
MetaKnight- Good at stopping the other team's charges, but can get caught playing midfield a little
Blaziken- Good at clearing the ball, but tripped up in man-to-man defense
Dorcas- Will throw his body in front of a shot, which makes him a little injury prone
Tails- Generally solid with high shots, but pretty weak on shots on the ground
Ganondorf- A little slow, but has the height to cover the corners
Peach- Not a stereotypical goalie, but has enough speed to cover most of the net,
although a few shots will just go off her hands and in
King DeDeDe- Brick wall, but easy to trip up
Infernape- Good at diving to block the ball, but may occasionally injure himself by not paying attention to where the posts are
Oswin- A wall, but a little slow
Here, I love soccer:

Right now, it looks like the draft is going to be 8 rounds, with a random, serpentine order, and then there'll be free agency to fill out the rest of the rosters
And happy birthday, KUF
And I changed my mind about the scouting reports. You can put any player at any position, and see if they work out.
