Zone of the Enders HD Edition has a final release date (October 25 in Japan) and new official website, but the hot news from a recent preview event is that a sequel is in the works.
Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima announced that the studio has started work on a ZoE sequel codenamed "Enders Project." Famitsu says that it's already in the works, with 3D hand-built models being captured into the game's Fox Engine. But, before you run off to celebrate, know that 4Gamer says that the title is only in the experimental stage as of now. Well, whatever stage they're in, that early art looks killer.

The first game isn't special but it's fun. The second game is just pure badass and the creators went crazy with the speed of the fighting and pushing the PS2's graphics hardware to its limit. Now running on PS3 technology it will be amazing to see what the combat will look like this time.

I'll check the second one out then. Normally I'm not into Jap-action games (minus the one I played the Xbox 360 demo a couple years ago whose name escapes me; that one seemed fun) but I'm open to it.

What is zone of enders?
It's more or less the definitive mecha combat game. It's produced by the same dudes behind Metal Gear Solid, but for some reason never got the same amount of recognition, which in my view is serious bullshit and a damn shame, but hey that's the way it goes sometimes.

If it's got the balls to the wall crazy visual business of a CAVE shmup and reflex-reliant constant action fuckery to boot, then count me in as eagerly awaiting its release.
I mean that gameplay video doesn't look bad - maybe it's me still sore from anything ever that pauses gameplay mid-fight (from Infamous 2) but I am not AROUSED. But the PS3 can handle so much more and as someone who thinks the japanese mecha look is pretty uninspired that modelling is looking really fuckin' rad.
I'd really love a completely fucking crazy mecha fighter to go along with all those other PS3 games I've got around here somewhere.

I've actually managed to run the games on PCSX2 with upscaled models (but horribly-mangled text and such) and avoided the lag that the second game had in particular due to running it on a modern system. However, I'm actually quite interested to see how a sequel would work out since it's been quite a while.

Go play the infinitely superior Mechwarrior games instead.
May just fuckin' might! I'd love to get some more use out of the old bitch rather then fucking around with Far Cry 2. Remember it getting mixed reviews - but hey, I've been playing nethack for the past 3 weeks so it's not exactly like I'm in any position to be fucking picky.

I feel your pain honestly. I generally hate pausing in the middle of gameplay; it breaks the immersion. In that particular gameplay video though the player was being a bit of a scrub. ZOE2 remembers the last sub-weapon that was equipped and you can instantly swap back to it without pausing the game simply by tapping the L1 trigger instead of holding it down to bring up the full menu like he was doing.

Infinitely superior to ZOE? Uh, I'd disagree with that. Mechwarrior was fun, but it's hard for them to really be comparable since Mechwarrior was much more simulation-focused while ZOE was arcade-style focused in gameplay. Mechwarrior is far from what I would describe as a "completely fucking crazy" mecha fighter.
He mentioned he'd love a completely fucking crazy mecha fighter for the PS3 - which ZOE HD is neither released nor is ZOE3 anywhere near release - so his only real options would either be the weak Armored Core series, or the absolutely shitty Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, or that piece of shit series raping Mission Front Evolved. So if he wanted a mecha fix now, which would you rather go with?
I disagree though, running around with a damaged mech, low on ammo, and trying to survive is completely fucking crazy. And tense.
Also the closed beta for Mechwarrior Online started and the Mechwarrior Tactics beta is entering its friends and family phase. My dick is hard.

Well I'm pissed. How the shit could Konami fuck this up? The games are 10 years old and designed to run at 60 FPS on archaic hardware, but they couldn't even match that while porting it to the PS3? Epic failure. Was going to buy this, but apparently Konami's QA is grossly incompetent.
