A new record has been achieved!

http://guru3d.com/news/amd-fx-processor-cl...--world-record/

I planned to get these CPU's as my upgrade since last year... I cannot wait for them to release!

If they can get the world record on LN2, I'm hoping for 5Ghz stable speeds on water. cool.gif

You should put a V16 in your car, too.

2011 and we've only just hit 8.5 GHZ. That's kind of slow progress, when you think about it.

And even then that 8.5 Ghz they achieved is not really practical for anyone to run on because they're only able to achieve it by having to pour liquid nitrogen or dry ice on it, and then shortly afterward the processor dies and is useless. It's basically just a big nerd boner contest, which I gotta be honest, really couldn't care less about since like I said, it has no practical use because it destroys the processor to run at that speed.

And 8.5 Ghz is actually pretty impressive when you consider that they were likely doing this on a dual core or quad core proc. Even though in recent years the Ghz have not really changed much on new processors, they've been jamming more cores into them which means you need to be multiplying those Ghz by how many cores the processor has. 8.5 Ghz x4 is really like running a 34 Ghz processor.

You guys completely missed the point.

Its an advancement in technology, overclocking and pushing performance is to push the market forwards to force manufacturers to innovate to advance the market into faster better and more reliable products.

Its an 8-core processor, hitting 8.4Ghz, the last WR was 8.3Ghz on single core pentium4 technology.

Fucking hell I know I worded that bad, but you gotta get the point. unsure.gif

You know what? Maybe I will, and maybe throw in four fucking turbochargers while I'm at it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_veyron

This car costs $4 million to produce, and they sell it for $1.5 million.

Its not for profit, its not for anything other than pushing the edge of technology and performance to new levels, to push the market forwards to develop more efficient and elegant machines.

Volkswagen(who owns Bugatti) invested in the Veyron project as a learning experience. A new school for an old company.

Nah, I'm sticking with nerd boner contest. Again, it has no practical purpose. You don't need to overclock a processor into oblivion to demonstrate that it's a good proc. Tell me, what if such a processor existed that could overclock to 50.0 Ghz while pouring liquid nitrogen on it, but could only run stable at 1.0 Ghz? How many people do you wanna guess would give a shit about it? Only geeks looking to give their egos a boner, that's who.
