| QUOTE (Destructoid) | Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura has told fans not to look forward to a Final Fantasy VII remake any time in the near future, but stated instead that main character Cloud Strife has plenty of cameos and whoring left in him.
"Fans are looking forward to an oft-rumored remake of FFVII, but I don't believe this will happen for the time being," admits Nomura. "However, it's possible that he will appear in other titles as a guest character."
His comments came as part of Famitsu's serial look at popular videogame characters, which this week focuses on the spiky-haired star of Final Fantasy VII. If you want more of Cloud, then it seems you won't get him in an HD remake of his very own game. Some of you will be disappointed by this, some of you relieved.
Which are you? Do you want a remake of VII, or do you believe the original has stood the test of time long enough to be left alone as a classic? |
All they have to do is say "we are making a remake", and Square Enix stock will rise 100%. They're just saving that shit: hell, it might even be partially done.

That would be a joke if they did. At best it would only be a PSP remake then, in which case it wouldn't even be worth it.
Why the hell can't they just take a break and suspend some of their other redundant projects so they can make the damn game that everyone has been wanting for years?

XDXDXDXDXDXDXD You didn't seriously just state that they show common sense? omigosh i think he did.
Anyway, I'll just be happy with a graphics overhual. PS1 was a while ago, but I don't really want them to go all Sega on me and port them to every new console around. That's what PC is for.

Hey! More FFVII news!
| QUOTE (Destructoid) | At one time or another, I think we've all wished for a Final Fantasy VII remake which would update the game's now dated visuals into the HD era. People have been pleading for it about as long as I can remember the idea of HD gaming starting to disseminate.
Final Fantasy XIII producer, Yoshinori Kitase, made a statement at an event celebrating the Korean launch of the most recent title in the series which may give some hopefuls pause. In Kitase's opinion, it would take ten times longer to reproduce Final Fantasy VII than the original development to get it on the level of production seen in XIII. Considering that FF VII took 3-4 years to produce, that would put it at around retirement age for a lot of us.
Exaggeration? Probably, but maybe this is just Square Enix's way of telling us to let it go. It's as if they've been profiting from the name for so long by this point that even they think it's just a little bit sad. |
I don't like FF7, but this to me is a huge statement about what's gone wrong with JRPGs. The graphics have to be so pretty these days that they'll cut content till you end up with a 60 hour hallway.
I mean they're basically admitting FF7 had a lot more content than all of their current RPGs. I don't really see that as something to be proud of or keep repeating.
Still... If Advent Children was any indication, I don't want them to touch FF7.

Honestly, I'm just not buying their argument. You can't possibly expect me to believe that it will take 10 years to make a game that you already have every line of the script written for, every game mechanic fleshed out, every story element ironed out, and every character, map, and item already designed. All you have to do is an HD graphics update. Now I understand that FF7 is a long game, so that's a lot of material to do a makeover on, but for 10 years? Get real. Avatar was a movie that supposedly took over a decade to make, but that's partially because Cameron sat on his ass for several years waiting for technology to catch up. When it actually came time to make it, the CG rendering process itself only took 2-3 years, and that has far more high resolution models and environments than anything in a PS3 game.
I think the fact of the matter is they just don't want to do it for whatever reason, and as the article describes, they're just trying to throw out any excuse to try and make the fans stop badgering them about it.

Bug them until they crash - they must learn to listen to thier fanbase. At the risk of losing it.

Actually, it'd be more like 30-40 years, since he said it'd 10 times longer to reproduce it and the game took about 3-4 years to develop. Hey, maybe they should go ahead and make it. And call it Final Fantasy VII Forever.
