Been following this for a while. Figured that it would be incredibly hilarious if America kills the internet, because from what I've been seeing, they don't actually have anything to counteract the deepweb petabyte-large databases, kiddy porn and terrorist shite anyway.

Which really means that only legitimate and entry-level piracy sites are going to go down in this.

Fucking hilarious. Politics, eh?

American politics... I can't even say anything. I need a facepalm smiley.

So anyone want to join me in my other thread and move somewhere else?

Don't forget the NDAA as well. Obama's already agreed to sign that too, which will grant the US government the right to detain US citizens indefinitely without trial. Ironically despite all of Fox News' screaming about socialism, Obama couldn't possibly have turned out to be a more fascist President. And I hate using the word "fascist" because it almost seems too melodramatic with the way Fox abuses the word "socialist", but I don't know what else to call it. I mean it doesn't get any more radical than this. He is about to single-handedly trump Bush as worst President of all-time two times over with the passing of these bills. I have to admit even for as jaded as I've gotten toward this President, I didn't expect him to go this far off the deep end.

And just think, had we voted for McCain it would have been just as much of a shit-fest, because guess who is one of the two main authors of this atrocity? Why none other than Senator McCain!! YAAAAY (please kill me now).

Yeah, I remember awhile back you posted about some worldwide bill very similar to SOPA, and I said it would never pass in a place like America. I am eating my own words as we speak. They taste like shit.

I completely agree, and the worst part is that the Republican candidates this time around are fucking infinitely worse than they've ever been in history, complete incompetence, ignorance, disregard for human and American rights, etc.

I've come up with a theory (well, I haven't invented it, so to speak) that Obama actually holds a lot of Republican values and that this batch of Republicans are sabotaging their own political campaigns so they can just walk away with the campaign money (something more common in politics than one might think).

Obama is the worst example of a Democrat I have ever had the displeasure of voting for just because he isn't Newt Gingrich.

The good news is that this is really only isolated to America - so that any non-American based websites will be absolutely fine and anyone not in that hellhole country of yours can go around, skipping, scott-free. Apart from the paypal, I guess.

There's an out, and its Canada.

Done a hell of a lot of reading on the subject, and can basically summarize it as this:

The bill's main function is really to combat piracy (duh) and of that I approve. Seriously, that shit has to stop, along with DRM, so we can all enjoy painlessly our games and whatnot. At least, the average joe has to stop. Anyone with an ounce of internet savvy knows where to go when they really want their shit - but that's the minority of people on the internet.

Average joe and his facebook statuses and go fuck themselves.

The "Protect-IP" tagged along with the main function of the bill is the main shit. That's really the stuff being pushed through at any expense by a couple of blatantly paid-off fuckwits and being combated by a couple of well-meaning, slightly more intelligent fuckwits.

None of them really have any idea what they're talking about.

If this bill does get passed, and it increasingly looks like it won't, it'll be heavily amended by the time its worthless corpse drags itself into Senate. Keep legitimate sites in the air and out of a collective industry's death-throttle.

So it's not the end of the world. A little more inconvenience for your internet savvy pirates.

Yes and the fact that the corporations have pretty much free reign of just about what kind of information or user content is allowed to be up. And again, this is in no way going to stop piracy even the slightest. Maybe slow it down at the start, but certainly not stop it. Again, this shouldn't even be a government issue, but you know, lobbyists paying the government off, it has to be.

I'd like to believe that this bill will get killed off, but considering the fact that they passed the NDAA and that Obama is willing to sign off on it really puts considerable doubt in my mind that it won't get passed.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some countries started doing the same thing if this bill gets passed.

We should all just chip in with the money we got, buy a house, and live in it. And call that the Veteran's Lounge.
