Its a good car. Im really enjoying it. Not to everyones taste but i think it has great potential to be something slightly more unusual when played with a bit.

Anyway you can read the codes to see if it's AFM related?

Judging how strangled the stock air intake looks, a short ram cone filter by the AFM may 'overload' the AFM.

If the code is AFM and the car drives ok with no mpg loss etc, I'd just ignore it as its probably down to the AFM not being able to read the extra air coming in.

Are mx5 afms known to be fragile?

All sorted now. Its good having trade connections. wink.gif It came up with camshaft throttle position sensor and overfueling i think. Got the 2 codes anyway. It came on because i gave it a bit of a thrash on the way home. I agree with you, it was probably just a slight overload to the ecu having a lot more air rushing in way quicker than usual. It didnt feel any different when the light came on and i knew it wouldnt be anything to worry about. Those OBD II readers are very useful. thumbsup.gif

The extra air in will cause the ECU to overfuel smile.gif

Can you get it remapped?

Stu took me out in this yesterday... got to say I was properly impressed with the little two seater. Good surge of power, nice noise (helped by the new breathing) and a general feeling of being in touch with the car, the road and the environment. I can see what all the fuss is about, and I wasn't even driving! Congrats dude!

Got busy with Swampy's MX5 today and assisted him in doing its inaugural oil change of his ownership.

All went according to plan, apart from the filter being well seized on and needing one of my dads filter removal tools to get it off. Plus the bay was a bit cramped added to the hassle. It came off though in the end and all is good smile.gif

Heres some pics:

Very impressed with it tbh. You can see why these cars have a cult following. Excellent centre of gravity and balance in the corners. Swampy's also screams nicely with the Apexi filter on, which makes it rather unique as most of the MX5s you meet on the road are silent rolleyes.gif

Great car, even if I did look a bit like Donkey Kong from Mario Kart sat in it. (The roof needed to come off so I could fit in blink.gif )

I had my O2 sensor done today. £72 for the part off mx5parts.co.uk and then £36 for my old place to fit it. At least they washed the car. Its one way to get round a hosepipe ban eh! I decided to go for a quick blast up the Chase after I had tryed to clean my misty headlights up, tyre blacked the tyres and polished my scuff plates just to finish it off nicely. Got to have the roof down too when its like this!!

The bloody engine management light came on again on the way home. GOD DAMN IT! Back to diagnostics...

After a quick chat on mx5nutz it is possible that ive fitted my MAF the wrong way round. Not sure if it would bring the light on like it is. Im sure it could bring it on but it took 48 miles before it came on this time... confusing. Car feels fine so im not worried. I will just have to see what the code is and if it comes back on. Ive turned the MAF round now anyway.

Great pics but commiserations about the CEL sad.gif

Check the codes again with proper mazda software, not the generic obd 2 readers.

As said above it could be the AFM getting overwhelmed by the extra air of the filter.

Different tube size or AFM position, could cause this too, but the codes would show AFM surely?
