Chelsea got off the train in Mortum Station, and quickly ran for the cover of the pavillion roof to avoid the rain. A train station worker brought her bag over to her
and she thanked him. She went to a payphone and called a cab. When the vehicle pulled up and she and her luggage were safely inside, the driver asked where she was going. "The Mortum Manor House please." she said. The man stared at her incredulously. "M'am, you can't be serious. Not on a night like this." he replied. "I am serious. I am going to be living there." she said. "You work for GHOST?" he asked as he sighed and began to drive. "Yes." she said. "What do you know of the house?" she asked. "It's haunted." he said. "By at least one ghost." "Hmmm." she said and sat silently with her thoughts the rest of the way to the house. She was jolted back to reality when the cab stopped. "M'am, I'll carry your bag to the door but I won't go inside." the cabby said. "That's fine." she said. She stepped out of the cab and drew her jean jacket close around her. She wished she was wearing a long sleeve shirt underneath it rather than a tanktop. She ran to the door, reached into her pocket, pulled out the old iron key, and unlocked it. The cabby came up behind her and put the bag down. "Good luck, M'am, and may God bless you." he said before running off to the cab and driving back to the village. She reached out and turned the handle, then gave a slight shove. The door creaked open slowly. The entryway was large and cobwebby. She pulled her bag inside, but didn't shut the door. She stood admiring the old house. It was amazing. Outside, the storm was picking up. -------------------- ![]() |
