The plodding of the shire mare's hoofbeats were rhymical; but soft and distant. Emerald hued orbs watched the dark forest that engulfed her wine-red stained facade as she delved deeper into Keeleh. Obsidian tresses flicked from side to side, occasionally snagging on a bush's branches.

She was home. Or, back in the place that came close to a home. 'Like I promised,' she thought, remembering her promise to Mortel. She couldn't leave this place, despite the bad memories that lurked in the past. But, her nightmares didn't have to haunt her anymore.

She could start a new, with Crys gone. Try again for the family she never had.

Oryx.
That name had struck fear in the hearts of many. It had sent fillies scurrying for the safety of their mothers and colts flying back to their fathers. Now it meant nothing. He was gone. Oryx, the long time ruler of Keeleh Forest, had vanished. Mortel knew it was likely for him to return, but until then, they were leaderless. They? Ha it was a word for plural. Which the herd only just managed. So far, it was two mares that derived the population of the Forest. Mortel, the long reining alphess and Rose, whom Mortel had recently promoted to beta mare. A friend, or the closest companion to Mortel, she could be called.

She eyed the shadows coolly, knowing that this was her domain. Little could be done to frighten the alphess from her home. A sigh eloped on the passing zephyrs (XD), taking with it her cherished past. Sable, her second foal, first born foal to Oryx had left, deciding upon a fleeting impulse to further his knowledge of the world. A cruel smirk tapered the lips of the Arabian cross as she thought of Cicatrix. She had no doubt the filly would care for herself, with a temper worse than her mothers, and the size of her sire, she could conquer the world in a matter of minutes.

The flea-bitten valkyrie snorted lightly, taken by surprise as the shire, Rose, thundered gracefully into the clearing. What you could call a smile, became visible of Mortel's svelte plush and she nickered a warm greeting "Come back with me ay? It seems not only your mate and children have disappeared" she spoke lightly, with soft humor, although, deep down she missed her family greatly.

Black kissers twisted into a morbid smile as the shire mare halted.

Dipping her large crania in respect, she bobbed it barely.
"Of course, Mortel. I keep my promises, afterall," she replied, her intellgient voice was crackling and hoarse. Like she had just gotten done yelling at someone, dispite her cheery facial expression.

Emerald pools drank in their empty surroundings, brow furrowed. "Oryx will return, my friend. He never struck me as one to abandoned his love's side...Unlike some," she reassured, emerald hued orbs returning to the Alphess.

She allowed her grin to ease into a curt smile, not really there. The bright emerald pools of the alphess shifted to those of the shire's. Mortel spoke as Rose inclined her head respectfully "Seeing as i rule for now, i've decided, with acceptance from you of course, to rank you as Beta Mare" Having now gone through some of the problematic troubles that Rose had struggled through, she found herself drawn closer to the other mare. "I'm glad you do, it's nice to have some around who are honest to their words" This was directly aimed at the stallions who had paired with the two valkyries; Oryx and Brego.

"I think this time it's different. Either way, i can rule alone, with you at my side" A chilish smirk formed as she now spoke her thoughts "Do you what would be amusing, Rose? If we continued our lives here, but constructed a female herd with true darks" The words were meaningless, and she had no intention of sticking to them, but the thought of other dark herds trembling in the wake of a mare ridden herd made her smile.

A look of surprise was wrought through her slightly stressed looking features. Black rimmed auds flickered forward, as if she was disbelieving the words Mortel spoke. Beta? I never fathomed the day, she thought tartly, nodding her head in acceptance to the responsiblity that had now been placed 'pon her shoulders.

She chuckled, softly, as her stressed expression eased a bit. "It would be...Interesting," she replied, once her laughter ceased. "In the least. Though, we would probably be the best knit herd...Seeing how some mares of other herds squabble over the Alpha, or Beta stallions' attentions or affections."

I couldn't remember how long it'd been since I'd last seen the dark forest. I remember leaving in Autumn to find a mate, again. I remember enduring Winter alone. Then being forcebred by Falcon, then birthing Aislinn. And then, to top the dramatic roller coaster ride my emotions was taking; I met my half-brother. Romero.

Ironic how his name's one letter off from Romeo, and he's quite equal to the cliched personality of it. But he does have a darker side. Much, much darker, as I discovered. Though he obeys my rules due to me being older and wiser - and because he knows a mother's wrath.

Speaking of which, my gaze searchs desperately to find Aislinn, the gray filly, before my emerald green lanters find her. With Romero. Who, seemingly, doesn't mind the filly's rare sreatk of playfulness, like now. I watch as the filly and her Uncle bug eachother, trying to make the other crack first. It's amusing to watch, though I can tell Romero's just as unsettled by Aislinn's listless black stare like I am. It unusual for a horse to have that eye color, especially our breed.

My attention wanders away from the playing duo, to take in the forest's serenity. Maybe, by chance, Mortel had driven out the intruding stallion that had "claimed" the Forest. It would be a start, and a nice thing to come back to.

The beta mare had indeed, gone amiss for the past few months, and Mortel was starting to wonder is the shire lass had taken off without a word. She doubted her companion would do such a thing, but it still lingered in the back of her mind. Despite her best efforts to keep the stench hidden, her heat was thick in the air, strangely potent this year. Her eyes, a sleek emerald ravaged the foliage surrounding her skeptically. Ever since Oryx had left, she seemed to have lost her heart. I am a stone..., she thought bitterly, letting the wind tease with her creamy locks. The savage alphess was oddly calm though, for the new, 'great alpha' had also vanished. She was overjoyed at this, though her expression remained unreadable, without emotion, without passion. Two years ago, she would have been flaunting her beauty in the eyes of her mate, craving his praise and touch. Now she was mateless, alone, and very unhappy.

Nothing ever went unheard by Mortel, so the romping of equines made her stiffen with aggression. Her neck coiled back into a supple arch and she growled within her gullet, quiet but a sure warning. Before long, a filly burst from the brush and Mortel surged towards her, sharp teeth bared visciously. With two metres of the filly, she caught a flash of burgundy from her eyes and in disbelief, slid to a western style halt. Rose was ambling towards her, somewhat relaxed, and with a stallion in tow. Mortel glared at the newborn, suprise and envy dangerously alight in her optics "Is this yours?" She asked, dead serious "And who is that?" The second sentence came out in a snarl, a gutteral one at that.

Mortel had no trust for stallions, since Oryx had abandoned her as Brego had left Rose. Was this the father of the grey flicka. She stared at him, seeming oblivious how intent and rude her gaze was. "He's not the father, is he?" She already knew the answer. The beast wasn't similar at all to the newborn. Unimpressed with the sudden arrival of not only Rose, but two others, she slammed a silver forehoof into the loam, near the filly.

My thoughts, which were wandering aimlessly as I thought of my son, and Aislinn's future; as well as my own and Romero's, as strange is it may seem. They were brought to an abrupt halt and broken at the disbelieving words of Mortel, which made me start. Black rimmed audda pin back briefly, as I hear Aislinn scurry forward, and then feel her take refuge underneath my mahogany barrel. Romero, feeling the sudden change in emotions, moved forward to my side. He stands taller than myself, only about two hands, but he's built heavier than I; and he's proven to me to be a wonderful protector, but also a savage. It all depends on the look you give him to decide your fate.

"Mine? Yes," I reply, mahogany bode visibly tensing, a bit, at her snarl towards my half-brother. Out of the corner of my eye, I see his own muscles flex, but he made no other movement.

I know she's not fond of stallions, as I'm not particularly fond of them now too, but my half-brother had a place in my heart. He was the only sibling I knew of, the only family I had, besides Crys and Aislinn.

"Romero? Heavens, no, Mortel. He is my half brother; through the same father, naturally." I add, emerald eyes connect with Romero's silvery blue ones briefly, as if to reassure both myself and him, before they return to Mortel.

Mortel almost looked wary as she took a clear step in reverse, uneased by the two titans standing side by side. She was 17hh, a titan among her kind and other creatures, but against two drafts, she was nothing but small. She snorted her disgust "And why are you here...Romero?" The alphess twisted side on, blocking the path of all three, though she would not deny any female access into the herd, well, not now. Mortel looked beyond angry. She definately didn't appreciate being caught off guard with such serious matters "When and who?" She growled lowly, ears flattening themselves to her fine skull.

The arabian cross always had that imposing air of rugged beauty, but she held that dangerous aura aswell. She was like a lion, wrapped in silk. Mortel was quite touchy about her name being used, especially in the presence of...strangers. He knew her name now, which made her feel a whole lot more vulnerable. However, an animal is most dangerous when cornered. "Pleasure, Romero..." Sarcasm. A lot of it.

It had been not even a moon since Ares had entered these lands, and already he was wondering so much. About the previous Alpha, current Alpha, and that d a m n good-looking Alphess. But ah, let us not dwell. Ares had more current business to attend to, and that would be being sliced into the conversation.

Feathered daggers plodded across the ground, blue splotched tassels being touched and teased by the wind. Pale blue and bleach hide stood out against the dark trees, from which he finally emerged. And lucky him, right in the middle of the Herd. Well, what would have been callled a Herd. he eyed the new stallion for only a second, it wasn't his business, it was obviously Mortel's.

The brute was near Mortel, and he took another step to approach her. His nod brought respect the to femme, as did his words.
"'Lo, Lady Mortel." He also looked to the others, nodding to each one, including the filly.

A pained look overtook my aging features; features that were now physically scarred with the pain that I'd endured, the stress, the sorrow...I'm tempted to look down at Aislinn, who's now peeking out from underneath me; but I'll only be met by her listless stare, reminding me of what I did, and probably bring me to tears.

Silvery blue occuli flicker over to Rose, as I watch her tense even more, to the point where she's like a coil read to be sprung. The ailing look that engulfes her facade tells me there's something more to my niece and nephew. Something that obviously a very sensitive subject. And with such thoughts, seeing her pain, even emotionally, angers me. Rose had told me of the Alphess, how they had been friends before she'd left to the Claiming grounds to try at Love again. Though I can't tell that they had had a friendship now, by the way she was treating Rose and how words were being exchanged like blows.
"I'm here with Rose," I reply, the mannerism that I'd learned from day one sucks my anger out of it, though it's evident in my seething orbs. "A protector, of sorts. Since it seems she doesn't have anyone to turn to now."

Emerald occuli close at Romero's biting words, as I turn my face away to reopen them. Only when his biting remarks are dealt with, does my gaze return to Mortel - glazed, and listless like Aislinn's own.
"Aislinn," I start, feeling the gray filly shift underneath my mahogany barrel at the mentioning of her name. "Is the result of, let's say, a repeating past. Karma seems to of decided I wasn't punished enough when dealing with Sorrow." I explain, as best as I can without breaking down. It's harder than one might think, but it's the second time I've been forced, convieced, and birthed a healthy foal. I've never had a foal born from Love, like Mortel. She'll never understand the pain and suffering I'll have to deal with.

Those sharp eyes of hers caught the flash of patchy color and she snapped her head around. it was that beast, the docile one that had come with Heaven's Cursing. What was his name...ah...Ares. He greeted her, with the respect she had demanded he show from the start. Somewhat pleased, she gave him a curt nod and instantly wheeled her neck in to face the pair of titans. Rose looked, troubled, and desperately wanting out of the conversation. She felt a slight sense of guilt tug at her heart strings, but with a toss of her head, she convinced herself that she had no heart.

I am a stone, weathered and worn. Her eyes glazed over as she stared back, distant at Romero. The comments hurt, but the alphess refused to let it deter her. She took the sharp words and rubbed them into her wounded soul untill she hardened. Alert suddenly, she snorted, though she remained silent towards the beast.

She sensed her betas similar green eyes upon her, and restless, she shifted upon her hooves. Her expression darkened when Rose spoke, and she snarled to herself. Another rape, though as Rose hadn't said it, she pondered if Romero was not yet informed. She left the subject alone, but her eyes met Rose's for a split second, untill the alphess moved. Her ivory scythes sliced the loam, cresent shape imprints clear in the short, cropped grass. "Aislinn, you say. A fine name" Compliments to the child, the best she could manage in the tense time. She watched the grey flicka like a hawk, noting her likeness to her second daughter, Cicatrix. "You can all stay, beast included" She tipped her tiara in the direction of the stallion.

Cold, black eyes of the filly's brushed hers [ powerplayed ;_; ] and she dropped her own gaze, overwhelmed. Aside from the hue of the iris, the similarities of this filly and her would-be heiress were striking. Mortel refrained from expressing any sense of emotion and twisted away from the trio. Without another word she slunk off, her flea bitten figure fading into the dimly lit trees. She passed Ares, without acknowledging him and sauntered towards the nearest brook. At the waters edge, she paused and watched her cold reflection. Her face was gaunt, her cheeks hollow, though at the same time, she felt beautiful, as she had when she was pregnant with Sable.

Ares wanted to follow Mortel. Ha wanted to follow her so badly he actually extended a hoof and layed it flat before realizations came back. He wanted to follow her so badly that a twitch rippled through his bode at her passing flanks. He wanted to follow her so badly that he half-turned to try and get a look at her through the thick trees. He wanted to follow her so badly that an unfamiliar yearning was brought to him. He wanted to follow her so badly... that he did.

His motley hide twisted through the trees, until he reached a point of about halfway to where Mortel lay. He could almost see her one second, and then she dissapeared. Hazel-filled orbs shifted, lids closing over them.
He exhaled deeply, a breath of uncertainty, until he gazed again, and found her form. Reality at last. He did not step closer, speculated to, yes, but did not. He only watched her with interest and yearning.

He was never welcomed here. Obviously, taking the land by force had not bode well with anyone. But taking the land by any other means wouldn't have resulted in any other way, really.

The ghostly frame of an arabian stag peered out from the mist ridden trees, his steely blue eyes attaching themselves to each creature that flickered into his vision. Mortel- A fine beast, she was- had not taken his presance all that well. In fact, she nearly ripped him to shreds.

Fine with him, whatever she did to him. Would have saved him the trouble of going through the next series of heart attacks that his seemingly endless life threw at him. He felt like a coward, a dirty lowlife as he stood hidden within the folds of the trees. Away from everyone else. He had probably lost his status as an alpha, anyway, but there was no harm in acting like an outsider, now was there? Hardly something Mortel could figdet over.

((Well, God of the Cursed left. Moved to London or something. xx; So, if you don't mind, I'd like to start anew with Heaven's Blessing's Brother. 8D))

Rusted ivory hooves sank into the moist soil on te river back. She stood at the riverside, green gaze cruel, scrutinizing her reflection. Every inch of her seemed to have at least one imperfection, a scar, a graze, a mutation or a wound. Not all of these attributes were physical though, most were invisible to the eye, but her mind saw them as clear as day. She wasn't exactly in the best of moods, and the presence of another beast did nothing to aid her. "Get out of those shadows and make yourself known", she hissed, feeling the stallions presence like a mosquito bite to the nose. Unimpressed with the cowardly nature he was portraying, she swung to face whatever beast was hidden "Keeleh members do not hide" She spoke lies, her own mate had stalked the shadows, revealing himself when the victim was most unsuspecting.

Instead of waiting, she drove forwards, head high. "Ares" She stated dryly, "you lost?" Her eyes snapped around the trees, as though daring any other spectators to unveil themselves. Where was his companion nowadays, the 'alpha stallion'? A coy smile draped itself dangerously across her muzzle and she held her gaze to the titans; unblinking.

[x] Woah. So... There's no alpha? Heavens Cursing left? Is that right? xD Heh. So lost. And you want to take over his place with your boy, what's his name by the way?

Or are you now playing the old alpha? =3[x]

An artful smirk played across the masculine's alabaster mug as Mortel approached, and kept pinned when she halted.
"Not anymore," Ares responded. "I've found what I was looking for."

Flints quickly turned, changing the brute's path so that when he stepped ahead, he was parallel to the direction of the river's flow. Straight-profiled dome turned to the left, where he kept his gaze back at Mortel.
"And it's beautiful." He announced.

Obviously at a loss about how to reply, she eyed the larger grey beast unappreciatively. She was a mare that jumped straight to the point, swift and dangerous, perfect words to describe he mental and physical state. "I've found what I was looking for." , the stallion confided. She immediately assumed the river, and took a short step to the left, allowing passage for the male. He waltzed to the waters edge but didn’t collect even a drop of water. She flicked her muzzle towards him The river? If you say so.

short, but meh

A smirk playing across his muzzle, he turned to the river as if not to disrespect Mortel. He turned back to the femora, smirk gone, replaced by an almost blank expression. "No, not the river. You." He retorted.

Azure-Grey flanks twitched as the brute spoke, ashen thorns flickering.
