Hey there...my uncle appears to possilbly have a problem with kennel cough going around his kennels...he's treating it with penicillin...he says the pups seem to be getting better and have started eating good again...is there anything he needs to do or does he just have to wait it out and treat the ones that get it? thanks for the info!

except for the cough the dog is bright and alert has a good appetite and a normal temp. with stress free evironment and rest most adult dogs recover completely in 7 to 14 days.

isolate dogs to prevent spreading the disease. the quarters should be warm dry and well ventilated. humidification is beneficial. moderate daily exercise is good but strenuous exertion is not. continue the antibiotics for 7 to 10 days.

hope that helps keep me updated.

Well it appears that my pups did get this nasty stuff so i'll be treating them as well...i have a question about the penicillin...it says that it should be administered intramuscularlly...my uncle has some that he gives subcutaneously...my question is, would it make a big difference for me to give the IM stuff subcutaneously? i dosed one of my pups this morning IM as it says but it's easier on them if it is given subcutanously...also the dose called for on the bottle is 1cc to every 100lbs...that seems like a lite dose to me as most walkers only weigh about 50-60lbs...what do you think about dosing 1cc per day for 7 days? that is an IM dosage...i would think a subcuataneous dosage should be a little more...i'll be happy to talk to someone about this tonight on the phone if i'm not making any sense or you need more information...i'll be home after 5:00 and my home number is 919-771-2301...i have free long distance so i can call anyone back so that it doesn't cost you any money if you would like...thanks for your help guys...i've also heard some people say that they give their pups robitussin to help with the coughing...sounds like a good idea to me...any thoughts on that? thanks again.

Robitussin is available over the counter and is safe it does not supress the cough but it does liquify the mucus to make it easier to get out give .5 to 1 mg per lb or 1 teaspoon per 20 lbs orally every 6 hours

i have not heard if its okay to do the switching of the shots unless you know someone who has i would not recommend it.

You can give Baytril expensive but good, have to get from a Vet, or you can use Tylan 50 down the throat for 3 days in a row it works well and you can get it from feed store or something like southern states, big blue store.
