i was tired of getting +favs on a very low quality piece at dA, so i decided to revamp it.

as for those who want to know, here's the reference i used back when i first made it, and i'm fixing it so it matches this one more, like hair highlighting...

c+c is really appreciated as you would guess s01.png

shaded all his body. hair still looks weird.

shaping the clouds, any tips are helpful. i will then add an in between tone as shading and AAing of course... i'm not sure of how to dither there :s

I think the knuckles look fine. Maybe make the light shading spread out farther along the left side of the hand too.

hmm, not bad, but... i like the face on the old one... the "chin" almost seems like it messes it up... in THAT generation of DBZ the faces of the "little tykes" were more rounded, as you have it, but the chins (if drawn) werent really defined in kids... and the top version, the mouth and the chin seem mis-aligned, and maybe just extend the cheek out a bit more to almost "surround" the mouth more

and also, with round objects such as cloud "poofs" it can be hard to make them look "round" but... a lot of the bumps look rather lumpy, i might try smoothing out the lines and making the curve a bit cleaner

same with the shadows!

but otherwise, nice job s24.png

yeah lyd, i have to fix all the clouds, i actually really copied everything like the reference picture... which explains the face, i'll mess with that cheek a bit more, or maybe with his lower lip?

aocom, that looks great, i think i should get dithering a as well, but i'm afraid of not doing it very well in large surfaces so i'll have to check that later.
and yeah, didn't notice his hand lacks highlighting.

The sepia gives off a late summer color like thing...

I think you should probably do like... lavendar tones.

the palette is not a choice, it's part of the contest: winter scene with hot colours, summer scene with cold ones.

PS: i was thinking of shading goku's hair like in the latest cell shaded games:

The way you've done the cloud is kind of like you look the non dithered one and put dithering of another colour over it (the things on the bottom), which causes you to kind of see the line of the gold against the brown (the red line). If you fade the brown to the terra cotta and then from that to the gold (the one on the right) it might look smoother.

Also, you might want to add in Goku's shadow, add more volume and the like.

yep, thanks, that is it. that definitely solves the problem with the blank zone in the middle. although i was trying to keep it similar to the original reference and that's quite a big change...

Goku looks awesome, though I can't tell a difference between the new and old.
EDIT: Saw the animation and it looks much better.
I have the same problem as the poster before me with the sepia but I guess rules are rules.

And the Rawkfists are awesome. Do we get them as a smiley? Please! That would be roxors if we did. \m/

the difference is huge. the old one had no anti-aliasing or selective outlines, no dithering, and the use of black was horrible... although it wasn't exactly black.

i guess i can add that smiley s01.png

edit: i can't use the backslash :/ that seriously sucks s02.png
i'll use a word filter for \m/

word filter doesn't turn it into a smiley, too bad, we'll stick to rock.png

AA definately helps to give it a more 3rd Dimensional look, makes it pop off the screen at you. Might even want to put it on the tail it's leaving to give that a bit of a lighter look to it.

i think i'll darken the nimbus's tail and dither it to transparent so it fades with the bg, that should be good.
