Gegege no Kitaro is about a Demon boy called Kitaro, his parents (who are demons too) die before he is born, and Kitaro comes to live underground, crawling a way up out of the grave. His fathers will to be with his son is so strong that his eyeball gets a life of his on, and he lives on as an eyeball with a little body.

It takes place in a time were humans start to respect nature less and less and less. Most of the youkai (the Japanese spirit world) are angry about it, and split theirself up in 2 groups.
1. The group of youkai who wants to exterminate all of the humans and make the world Ghost/Demon/Spirit only.
2. The group of youkai that wish humans and spirits can live together peacefully.

Kitaro and dad, are on side 2. Protecting humans from evil spirits and demons, Kitaro forms a ghost hunter group to prevent ghosts from harming people.

Kitaro's friends:

In mytholigy, . In mythology, the Ittan-momen is a strange cloth spirit of indeterminate origin that may wrap around humans and suffocate them. If befriended, it sometimes enjoys being worn as a scarf.

Konaki-Jiji
An Old man who's like a grandfather to Kitaro, Konaki-jiji enjoy lying in the stree, pretending to be an abandoned baby. If picked up by a traveler, they reveal their true form, turn to stone, and start to grow. In some tales, they grow until the poor soul is crushed to death.

Nurikabe,
Kitaro saved Nurikabe from a block of ice, and since then Nurikabe got a liking towards him. Invisible to humans, Nurikabe use their wall-like bodies to close off paths and get people lost or diverted for reasons known only to the Nurikabe themselves. They are usually harmless, but some Nurikabe are said to add entire humans to their own body mass, imprisoning them in cement.

Sunakake-Baba
If Konaki-Jiji is Kitaro's grandpa, Sunkake-Baba is his grandma,
Sunakake-baba is a kind-hearted but cranky youkai woman who enjoys throwing sand into the eyes of unsuspecting passersby and vanishing in a puff of smoke. Her name means "sand-throwing old-woman" but can also be translated as "sand witch".

Nezumi-Otoko
Kitaro's friend. Part demon and part human, Ratman is not averse to betraying his friend and doing bad things if there's money involved. Kitaro always foils his plans, however.

erm... sounds weird... you know, only non licenced anime can be found easily online. if you want to get licenced one (which is illegal) you'll have to use a p2p or a bittorrent program.
