Shed's officially quitting PMF.
He wants someone to take over for him.
Currently I'm the top choice.

So, if I do get chosen as PMF's head admin... what kind of stuff do you want to see change there?

A few ideas I had:

1. It'll still remain Pokémon-focused. I'm hoping to improve the Pokémon spriting community for the better by having a long-standing forum work with new spriters and such.

2. A complete staff overhaul to knock out those who haven't been there.

3. A lot of contests and such to bump activity.

4. A giant recruitment/advertising initiative and possibly benefits for recruitment/advertising.

5. A complete overhaul/removal of the rank system.

6. Replacement of WoS with something else, and major improvements to PMR and it's staff.

I don't think PMF failed because of the system, frankly.

Shed's actually a good friend of mine, and I actually agreed with him in most things [except of course for the fact that he thought pink floyd was better than led zeppelin... but I digress]

I think it failed because most of the members held high in regard were the equivalent of high school jocks in a government position.
lots of them could care less for the community and were just there to chill.
for a so-called art website, its overall attitude was seriously lacking.

and with that said, I don't think that any of your ideas of improvement will work if none of that changes. And nothing will change unless the members change their attitude. and judging by their attitude, I doubt they'll be changing at all.

I think that PMF is better off turning into more of a social community. an Idea would be to split the site in two: one for art and one for chillin'
or the members that actually care about their art could like migrate somewhere like PJ or even here [i'm sure there's some other ones out there but I dunno].

I agree that a lot of the members don't care about spriting, and Ethan (who is likely to turn into my coadmin should I be elected) and I were trying to get people to advertise at places where people DO care about spriting. Unfortunatly many Pokémon spriters are content to stay at Serebii, etc, in addition to the fact most, if not all, Pokémon forums don't let your advertise forums outside of your signature.
I might as well give PMF a full rehaul... new name, new members. I don't think Shed would appreciate it, but I don't have much to lose in terms of respect with him.
Also, PJ and here are NOT options. This place is, sadly, one of the most elitist spriting communities I've been to (sorry guys) and PJ, which is my eventual goal for Pokémon Spriters to get to, won't really work at this point.

More and more it's looking like if I become admin I'll close PMF down and start up something else. =/

I don't see how we brag or show off about belonging to our own group at all.

and yeah, although it'd probably be a bit disrespectful to shed, a rehaul is an option that should be considered.

Generally I see only the people who are the most popular get posts and recognition, especially when it comes to fakedexes and projects. Have I ever been asked to use my fakemon in a project related to here? Nope. I see similar things happen to Phear, and other spriters, especially those who deviate majorly from the d/p style.

I'm already making a new forum whether Shed likes it or not, and if I am elected I will be closing PMF down. If I'm not elected, PMF will die anyways.

you have your own original far-fetched project that might just be a bit too real for the kind of people who are looking for these kinds of things. and Phear and other PMFians aren't exactly fakemon experts, which is usually what those projects are about, anyways.

and look at this guy. he's a great spriter, and has lots of posts. but he doesn't post anywhere else.
like everything in life, recognition should be earned.

and if you're going to close it down, maybe you should like not run for admin? cos if you close it down, you'll look like a bad guy, I think. if someone else is elected, at least it won't be your problem...

That's kinda low. Even if you want a new forum, at least leave the old one to someone else unless you're gonna make that forum into a new one.

And I'd keep it PMF just out of respect.

k, plans changed somewhat.
Right now it's looking like Ilex and I will take over as a joint adminship. Which will probably be better for the forum in the long run.
PMF won't get destroyed (I never planned to 'destroy' it, just move it) and the main thing I want to focus on is changing the forum's attitude - namely, recruiting new members who actually sprite.
PMF isn't meant to be the top-notch Pokémon art forum, it's really meant to be a place for Pokémon spriters to improve their skills, which it isn't working as right now because of lack of people who want to critique.

Also, Phear mostly makes fakemon now. >_> and remember Twitch? She's a PMFian. I didn't see what you meant by the first sentence though.

I remember when I used to look at the galleries in PMF and I was like these guys are amazing.
