I don't know if there's a free one, but I use Pixen. It's... got some nice features, but it's actually kinda hard to get used to.

(correct me if i'm wrong but) you can't use windows programs in unix systems. maybe there's ms paint clones out there... but you really should look into other kind of tools because to be honest, paint has absolutely nothing worth envying. specially in its latest iteration (win7 paint... no thanks).

anyway, if you're thinking about PA specific drawing tools, i know of a quite retro one that that looks great, albeit a bit hard to learn. check it out: http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/

Grafx2 is excellent, but it's a BITCH to try and learn.

I use paint since it's easy to use (Vista version), but if I need layers or the like, I use Photoshop.
