Part One of Three

The World’s End: not many have come to it, and even less have survived and returned to the mainland to tell the tale of its horrors. There are the fair few, however, that manage to escape the terror, and among those are the infamous Barbossa and Sparrow.

However, between the two is still a rivalry unlike any other. A history of thirty years lies between the two, and a gap equally as large. Written in their pasts are mutinies, betrayals, and hate; pages could be filled with tales of their most obvious dislike of one another.

Though in the face of the End, old opposition is laid aside so as to allow the old shipmates to unite, or as united as it gets, against the most feared pirate: the renowned Davy Jones.

Sparrow, who owes his afterlife to the ghost, has only a matter of time left to gather ninety-nine souls to replace him. Barbossa, it seems, has lived a life of ‘death’ and for that, owes Jones his spirit. After a series of complicated negotiations with the most feared of the undead, it has been agreed upon that the following terms were to be met:

One: Two-hundred souls were to be found and made to replace Sparrow and Barbossa.
Two: Jones’ heart was to be returned unharmed. Left on an isle in the seas with one ex-commodore Norrington, it could very well be anywhere at the time.
Three: One member of each pirates’ crew was to be sacrificed to an afterlife of payment.

And the catch? The three terms are to be met by the end of the moon cycle, and that leaves only a total of eleven days.

And to further complicate matters, Will Turner, more or less a member of Sparrow’s crew, has taken a sudden disliking to the man. The reason behind this is the suspicion that his betrothed, Elizabeth Swann, has lost interest in him and turned his eyes upon the Pearl’s captain.

The couple still has their own task to complete, however: to retrieve Sparrow’s compass and return to Port Royal, where it is to be handed over to the Lord Cutler Beckett in exchange for their freedom. The third word is swashbuckle. Swann, who at one point held the papers herself, has managed to lose them to Norrington, whose only goal now is to retain his position in the higher levels of society.

Times are changing. The pirate species is dying out, and there are no longer many that are willing to board a ship and sail away to unknown dangers. And when two-hundred souls are needed, there’s little one can do but pray that some stroke of luck befalls the world and leads them beyond the horizon.
