but i hope it's not hard to find work for a foreigner there!

Has anyone gone through a phase where they are too nervous to speak in Japanese to a native speaker who is not a teacher? That's what I am going through now. I've got a Japanese flatmate, yet the only thing I've said to her in Japanese is すこしだけです when she asked if I could speak Japanese (after finding out that I've been studying for a year). Yeah, my Japanese -is- pretty atrocious, but it is also at a stage where my classmates understand it, and we are happy to make small talk in Japanese when we hang out.
Oh yeah, we also used the みんなの日本語 [Minna No Nihongo] book too. I believe that it's a widely used book for beginners (and they is now a 中級 version of it too).
Thing I found hardest about Japanese? I'd say everything except pronunciation *laugh*. But only applies for individual syllables - I do not doubt that my 病院 and 美容院 sounds too similar. Particles caused me a lot of grief at the beginning (still do, は and が? バアア). And Kanji, oh how I despise thee. I know it's a necessity and all, but I just don't have a good memory for it. Add to the fact that they threw 30 new Kanjis per week for us to learn (about 5 compounds per Kanji) and I was forgetting faster than I was learning (*sad laugh*). And I suppose that one of the problem is that when I am not studying, I am more likely to type than write, and you only reinforce recognition when you type Kanji.

Yes, it's a lot of effort to learn Japanse ne sou deshou? My biggest prob is pronounciation =P Need to get rid of my Dutch accent. Im using Japanese for busy people book and it's very clear about the grammar so that's not such a big prob for me
Omg I reallly want to do that language course in Fukuoka :please

----------------------

Ketsuko san, I'm sure you'll pass! :clap
ah i see. cool. which city do you stay in? i think the amount of stuff learned within a period of time, be it a lot or little doesn't matter. you can learn lotsa stuff but don't master them well, on the other hand learn a manageable amount and master it at the same time would be better. though i like to learn lotsa things at one go! haha it's gonna get harder from now on so, ganbatte!

Well, I'm an otaku, so I think I need to learn Japanese. Luckily, in my high school, Japanese is taken to be one of subjects. So I don't need to pay more for studying Japanese.

Wow. I haven't posted anything for a while.
Anyway, for my Japanese course at school, our syllabus is as follows:
+ Family Life and Home (greetings, family, birthdays, likes and dislikes, health and sickness) + Neighbours and Communities (homes, neighbourhoods, directions, shopping, restaurants) + Education and Work (schools, a day at school, jobs) + Friends, Recreation and Pastimes + Holidays, Travel and Tourism (Destination and Transport, Accommodation, Sightseeing and Weather) + Future Plans and Aspirations
* up to restaurants right now. class makes me hungry now. :P

PWRTSM, that must be really hard *-*U what's all that difficult stuff for? XD
i'm learning sonkeigo nwn really happy with that!! I'm learning how to speak with my superiors!! so, when i go to live to Japan, i'll be prepared XD the only crazy stuff is that there are 3 ways of saying the same... 1 way for men, 1 way for verbs from 1st group and 2nd but without those whit only 1 hiragana, and 1 for special verbs and 3rd group... japan people and their complicate way to think XD
