The reason I post this is because I don't want any other 'not-so-considerate' people post it before me, and caused 'lost in translation' war.
A Japanese Tabloid Magazine named FLASH EXCITING 'exposed' 14 of YUI's embarrassing true self (Thanks s0l1dsn8k3~) recently. The Japanese fans are still talking about it.
Before I 'exposed' it in English, note that this is a tabloid magazine, as a YUI fan, we shouldn't really post around about it, I don't think dear YUI will like it. And for most of stories, you can read it in ROCKIN' ON JAPAN magazine, YUI herself told us about it in the interview.
So I ain't gonna talk about it, because I kinda promised that I will write a 'summary' of who I have read in ROCKIN'.
So here's the main point, YUI's real name (Don' believe in everything I wrote lol).
They posted a bunch of YUI's pictures back then in the magazine, one of iit I'm sure you guys have seen before, and an essay YUI wrote back then when she was in year 6 (primary school).
Plus the reporters/ paparazzi even went to her hometown and interviewed several people who knew about YUI back then. Some were her former classmates and people who used to work with her in the chinese restaurant.
To sum it all (I left some though, lazy haha): YUI was those kids who doesn't have a strong presence back then, she was not stand out at all back then. She didn't have many friends, and you can't really tell what was going around in her mind.
Some of her former classmates can't believe that she's a famous artist now.
Means that these paparazzi failed to obtain any 'juicy gossips' about YUI since she's just a normal kid who led a normal school life. Which means, good hahah.
As for the pictures, I will only put up for only a day, I'm sure it will be spread 'far enough' within a day.
*LINK REMOVED*
According to the essay written by little YUI which appeared in the magazine. her name is Yoshioka Yui, yes YOSHIOKA YUI (吉岡唯). The title of the essay is 'My last day as year 6 student', something like that.
I can only say that Japanese essays are.....unique. Unlike us in Malaysia, has a 'typical format'.
atheon is kinda proud that she found this out by herself LOL. But if someone ask you about YUI's real name, hope that you guys willing to explain about it. "It should be Yxxxxxxx according some tabloid magazine with her essay as proof, but YUI chose not to reveal it." something like that.
Lock this thread if it's necessary. Hope that this is the first 'place' you read about it. The clean version. And be 'considerate' if you wish to quote it to some other places. It's nothing actually haha, if you know YUI well enough lol.
You can choose to doubt it too. I'm just providing an answer with several 'evidences'.
I shall stop ranting now. Happy YUI-ing.
I like the name by the way, whether you chose to believe it or not lol. Always prefer this than the other rumoured surnames.
PS: Brad accidently clicked some nasty links when we were digging around the board LOL.

You know I'll be the one to say it, but this sort of thing is really stupid. I feel like it's an invasion of privacy and YUI would hate it, if she is like we think (and her former classmates say). Who cares what her full name is. If she wanted everyone to know, she would tell us. Looking around for it this way seems disrespectful. They might as well sneak into her room and look through her diary.
But I suppose it is the price of fame, so hopefully YUI handles it well. If she doesn't learn to cope, maybe she'll stop singing and making music, so people won't pry into her life anymore.

Thx for sharing this piece of news with us atheon, in such a rational way.. really disgusted by it though.
firstly.. i really dun care yui's real name if she choose not to let us know for her personally reasons.. but obviously people have dug up all of it.. so now.. we do know.
secondly, i wonder y the magazine write about somebody's embarrassing moments ( is it ?). it was just totally really rude and Unethical! i dun need to know. i think yui deserve her own personal space on this and not to let anyone know. but obviously people have dug up all of it again.. we should give yui our support.

Quoted from your website.. That's just a preview of it, the content of ROCKIN' ON is soo intense, filled with lots of untold histories, things about YUI might 'shocked' you after you found it out. A lot of Japanese fans cried after reading it. Well for me you know I'm just a JLPT level 3 first year student, can't really FULLY understand it but I can roughly know what's going on. I didn't cried though, again language barrier. But I was really impressed by YUI all over again and made you think again and again before you judge somebody without knowing them.
i'm abit disturbed by this though.. whats so intense la.. is it the referring to the 14 embarrassing thingy again?

as for this piece of info.. i wasn't surprised at all.. in fact it totally fits what i thought she would have been while younger. now i'm interested in the essay she wrote though. haha

At first Waoh never YUI never got paparazzi go dig, good she can focus well... But sad tabiold because of sales, go and dig every newcomer past... Luckily YUI was a good girl, nothing much for them to dig, only full name... I think every star will go through this jus treat it as because YUI is famous now so there is good and bad media coverage...

i 'third' the statement that the parapazzis are over the edge. everyone has their own privacy and secrets, including Yui. yet, they have dug out these info. Yui is jux fine and we dun nid to know her actual name in full (or watsoever form). geez... give our dear Yui a break already.

Thanks atheon for the info! I also agree that it's up to YUI if she wants to disclose it or not.. It's her privacy after all.. And we as fans, should stick by her and support her ;)
Someone definitely has to put YL back to Japanese Wikipedia.. Heheheh~

To me, digging up her full name is fine as long as it is forcefully done. I think if you use a stage name and become somewhat of a celebrity then you should already prepare yourself that one day someone is going to find out about your real name.
But after finding out her full name, the intrusion should stop right there. There's is no need to go into other private details unless the celebrity reveals them him/herself.

Sometimes I wonder if it is YUI that we all fell in love with or her music. . . Either way I love both of them. There is a reason to everything that YUI doesn't mention. I'm very disappointed that there are low lives out there trying to find out stuff that aren't meant to be known. Why do people get so tempted to find out stuff that are hidden or unknown to them rather than stuff that aren't. I mean if there was a game show let's say where a person had to pick a door out of these two doors and to get his or her prize. Door one is already given to the person and the prize behind it is an all expenses paid vacation to let's say Japan(tempting huh?) Let's say that door two leads to a mystery prize that could be benefitial or deadly. Guess what that person is going to pick? That's right, door two. . . Why you might ask? Unfortunately I can't answer this question. Isn't it true that everyone have secrets whether they are dirty, personal, or just plain out of the ordinary? Does this mean that we must find stuff like this out too? To sum this all up I just need to say one phrase, "curiosity killed the cat." Once starting out as a little discovery might end up becoming a discovery that could ruin a person's life.
If this made no sense to anyone, just think of it as empty words. I just felt like saying it.
Thank you YUI-Lover community. It's been close to two years. 4/20/07, I'll never forget that date. To the people I had a chance to talk to on a frequent basis or concerned themselves with me when times were tough (PWRTSM, you_and_i, yukio, Brad, and others), I thank you. I invite each one of you to email me at justanotheryuilover@gmail.com. Good-bye.
In 25th of March 2007, YUI accepted an long interview for ROCKIN' (which lasted for 3 hours), in the interview she told us her past (in detail), answered every (or most) questions the reporter asked. Before that YUI never really do these interviews before, we can just gather information about her from different sources, plus you know, she likes to avoid questions haha.
That's why this magazine is a must keep. I shall say it again, 20000 words, 12 pages of pictures, 15 pages of texts.
Then 2 months later a Tabloid magazine (FLASH EXCITING) which always featured sexy women in the cover wrote an article titled 14 of YUI's embarrassing true self, all exposed 「YUIの(恥)正体14全部バラす」 (Thanks s0l1dsn8k3~). They interviewed people who 'claim' to know YUI back then, and posted a bunch of 'unseen' pictures and even YUI's essay.
I cannot write all 14 of it because I haven't got the chance to read the magazine, some 'nice' people only extracted part of the content in that ch2 board. Mostly were 'comments' by YUI's former classmates, co-workers, junior, neighbour. Plus the essay (I kinda believe that it was really written by YUI), and the 'journey' of the reporters.
The so-called 14 things, most of the 'secrets' were told by YUI personally in ROCKIN'. Means that if you have read ROCKIN', you wouldn't be surprised of what reported by the tabloid magazine. People who don't know her might find it interesting though. Ok maybe not so interesting because YUI was just a normal student back then lol.
Of course YUI didn't tell us her real name in ROCKIN' lol.
Apparently reporters of FLASH failed to obtain any information from people in Voice (the music school YUI went).
Clear??
I can rant more :P

ashura21 ordered Rockin' on from kino the other day...he bought the last one. Even though I won't be able to read much of it, it'll be my first Japanese magazine, and it features YUI in it!
I don't find it necessary to know her full name, unless if she's happy to enclose it, herself. If her full name is confirmed now though, at least no more questions are going to be asked about that in the forums. ;)

A good way to verify this is to shout : "Yoshioka san !!" at her live concert. If she feel like : yes ?? who called me ?? It's her real name.
ah, ah... enouh joking. I think it's her real name too.
ps : very good investigation Atheon !
I think if you do this, hopefully she has trained herself not to react to her last name and will ignore you. If she responds, then everyone there will know it's her full name. But even if she ignores you, maybe it will bother her enough that she will have a bad performance. Is that worth it?

I think the title YUIの(恥)正体14全部バラす should be translated to 14 of YUI's embarrassing true self, all exposed. "Consciousness" doesn't seem to make sense here.

Well, Thanks Atheon for posting this. You definitely are the right person to post this first. Although you always say we shouldn't believe in anything you type. I do feel like you're one of the few that I actually could trust and believe. Since I think that you are really sincere towards YUI.
Anyway, I just read this today, so I haven't seen the pictures. But I guess I don't really need to see them.
So yeah, this is what tabloids do. It's inevitable. <_<
But no matter what happens, We will always support YUI :guitar :guitar :guitar
I want the Rockin' on Japan Magazin too. But I don't think I can get it :(

daffy_yui: You can backorder it from Kinokuniya if you want to. I kinda wrote a tutorial on how to order it for Malaysians who wish to buy it in Kinokuniya.
hanashin6: Nikkei Entertainment with YUI will be June 2007. Some descriptions of the article about YUI (by yours truly) can be found here.
Shifty: Haha thanks :blush that means a lot *goes to work on her ROCKIN' ON summary* Don't believe in everything since I'm the only one who check proof the things I've wrote. Where are you staying at?? Another way is....buy it online lol.
I was thinking of writing a Chinese version, just to be fair  hmm...
which btw Chinese wikipedia has our forum link LOL XD And they explained YUI's name too.
Someone really should edit that English wikipedia......
"At the age of sixteen, by recommendation of her mother, she began studying song, songwriting, and guitar at a private music school in her native Fukuoka."
That is soo wrong.....ok only one part correct. She was inspired by her mom to start writing poems and stuff. Not really related anyway :swt
