Here's my version which makes most sense to me:

This is how I interpret the lyrics:

I think the two had a fight and she's on her way home. Outside she looks back to his window and sees the light in his room, wondering what he's feeling right now. He always apologizes directly after an argument and acts like nothing happened, but it still keeps bothering YUI and she's crying alone at nights wishing she could be selfish and tell him that she's hurt. He does ask her if she's alright and of course she answers she's alright, but it should be obvious that she's not alright at all. Since she doesn't want to be selfish and be a nuisance to him, she keeps lying to him and herself.

Hmm, Taiki's interpretation is interesting too. But for me, I think the both of them are walking together on a street at night. Passing by those houses with the lights on. There's talking, lying, tears...basically a melancholic atmosphere....some people says it's a break up song. Hopefully this isn't written from YUI's first hand experience. It's sad... =(

Yep it's for a drama but I think you're missing something here. She wrote this way back while she's still doing Feel My Soul or sometime around that time. And if you'll realize it, it was the time when she writes songs purely from her experience and not taking into consideration the story of the drama or movie the song is intended to. Another point would be, she writes her songs basing from her experiences eventhough the song will be used for a drama or movie. she looks at her previous experiences from her diaries and construct the song. THOUGH it is already a MIXTURE of her experince and the story of the drama or movie.

bottom point is, the song is based from her experience and modified it a bit due to the request of the producer of 4 Shimai Tantei Dan. pre-written song, came from her experience originally. :sry

there's a short video in which yui says it's a string ballad meant for heartbroken women. i agree that she must have written it with personal experience cos' it sounds heartfelt just like all her other lyrics.

i'm sure her lyrics on relationships will be stir our emotions even more and shred our hearts into smaller pieces when she really falls in love. whoever that lucky guy's gonna be, he'd better treasure her.

I doubt that singers are always writing a song based on a personal experience...... so Namidairo is not necessarily her own tale.
