Wilkommen to X-Men Genesis: Decimation! You want to apply for character? Here's what you do!
Don't Forget the Guest Forum for any questions or queries. Also check our FAQ. or:
Contact a Mod 1. Read the
The Story, our world's premise (we're an AU off-shoot of Comic Canon 616's Decimation storyline and some things are the same and some things are quite different), next read
The Time Line, and then read is again, as this is a basic chronological layout of major events that occurred (or did not occur) in our AU – not everything is listed, but we've simplified canon for sanity's sake, also take a gander at
What Didn't Happen. And if you still aren't sure if something happened or not, just ask. Make sure you read
The 198, and know who's powered and who's not.
2. Read the
Character Application Guidelines and
How to Apply all the way through, in full. If applying seems like what you want to do, be sure to peruse our list of
Available Characters and
Reserved Characters while you're at it. If who you want to apply for is currently Reserved, wait a week and come back, they might be open again, or you can
Challenge the reservation.
3. Look the site over, read the bios of the casted characters, read some threads, see if we're your style.
4. Read the
Game Rules and the
Posting Rules all the way through, in full, with passion this time! You may also want to take a look at our
Cache of RPing Tips,
The Four 'R's of Posting and
The Shipping Laws. Now it's time to
Register!
Register an OOC account, for the Reservation and Application Process.
NOTE: When registering at XGD to apply for a character, please DO NOT register a Marvel Canon Character Codename as your OOC username. All canon codenames are reserved and will be assigned upon acceptance. Also, if you can, avoid confusing usernames that are too close to a canon character's codename or real name (unless you've been accepted to play that character). I.E. if you are not playing XGD's Iceman, please do not use "Bobby Drake" ...or use "Weapon X" is you're not XGD's Wolverine. Thanks!
5. Once your OOC account has been validated, it's time to Reserve a character, head on over to the
Reservations forum and read
How to Reserve a Character. Once you've reserved your character, now it's time to fill out that Application! If someone has reserved the open character you want, don't forget you can
Challenge the reservation.
6. Fill out the
Blank Application, make sure you check out
Character Ages and go over the
The Time Line, again. Once your application is completely filled out, email --
xg.decimation@gmail.com, (do not post it on the board) and please, you have seven days so take your time, and please feel free to contact staff or any other the players on the
Contact List to discuss your application, especially if your character has a canon connection to another player's character, ESPECIALLY if that connection is romantic.
7. Staff will go over your application and one of the following will happen:
- Approved - We'll contact you and welcome you aboard!
- PM/Email Sent - With a list of changes that need to be made. make your edits and send it back in.
- Denial – with an invitation to apply for another character, because we think you're an excellent writer but your take on a character doesn't fit with the premise of the game.
- Denied - Flat denial. Yeah, harsh, but sometimes an applicant and a game just aren't a good match. (this usually happens when someone hasn't read the Rules, the Premise, or the Time-Line or used casted canon characters in the bio and didn't contact the players' of said characters.)
So you've been approved! Huzzah! Now what happens?1. An official notice will be posted in the
Announcements forum that we have a new player. It has been known to include dancing bananas, X-Men smilies, and terrible puns on your character's codename (so don't say you weren't warned!)
2. You will need to set up your Invisionfree account for your character. Many characters are preregistered (and you'll receive the Account Name and Temporary Password in a PM or Email along with your Acceptance) but if they aren't, then register your character using their Code Name (if they have one). And it's time to upload your
Avatar. Then you'll be asked to post your properly formatted bio to the
Cerebro Files using your IC Character's account.
3. Green light! You're ready to start, and how you want to do that is totally up to you. We don't recommend just posting for your character with an (Open) tag in the thread title, so for guaranteed results, we recommend arranging the scene beforehand: use Contact Info for tracking down a specific player, or just post in the
Chasing Muses Forum and see who bites. If we're mid a board-wide plot, contact staff to see how best to enter the fray...or frays (if there's a few sub-plots going on). Always check the Chasing Muses forum to see what plots are happening on the Game Day you start. There ya go, you're now a member of the Good Ship Decimation (wow, that's either a really good name for a ship, or a really, really bad one).
Welcome to X-Men Genesis, recruit - now go get your game on!
