The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are missing from this AU entirely.

Magneto was able to save Anya from the fire and Magda never ran away. She was also never pregnant with the twins. He manifested his powers in a less destructive way a little later.

A lot of things are different because of the AU, especially things concerning Magneto. He calmed down a lot and it was Mystique who started the Brotherhood.

Time Line!

1994

The school charter is approved for Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, located at 1407 Graymalkin Lane in Salem Center, New York with the first students being Scott Summers, Warren Worthington III and Bobby Drake.

Beast is recruited in early October.

Late October: Jean Grey joins and The X-Men are officially formed by Xavier.

They fight Mystique's Brotherhood a lot and have wacky adventures. Meanwhile, Scott and Jean crush on each other, and Cyclops is made team leader and shown Cerebro.

1994 - 1998

Many more wacky adventures as Teen Superheroes. Mimic attacks, blackmails his way onto the team and is expelled right quick. Lorna joins up and has a lot of bad codenames before she settles on Polaris.

1999

Krakoa (not a giant mutant island, as it was in the 616 universe) is an island filled with cultists, who are sacrificing people to awaken some goddess. One of them is an as of yet identified mutant and the X-Men go to save people, but it goes badly -- the cultists have magic. Scott alone escapes and Xavier fetches the second team of Wolverine, Storm, Thunderbird, Banshee, Colossus and Sunfire but not Nightcrawler, who he can't find.

After their rescue, Iceman leaves for school and to be an Amazing Friend and Beast goes Avenging. Angel began splitting time between working for his dad's company and the X-Men. Jean leaves the X-Men for the first time, though she doesn't go very far, developing a deep friendship with Storm and still dating Cyclops, despite the feelings she's developing for Wolverine. She lives with Misty Knight at this time and is still sucked into a lot of X-Men adventures. Sunfire also leaves, having no desire to join the team long-term.

Soon after, Nightcrawler is found by the X-Men about to be murdered by townspeople. He is saved and happy to join the X-Men.

Sentinels kidnap the X-Men and schlep them off to their orbital station.

After they escape, Jean experiences hallucinations of dying – burning and withering – inside the shuttle. She finds herself looking into That Place where Annie almost took her so many years before, and she talks to Something...only to realize suddenly that the shuttle shields have come back online. She, and the others, are fine, just very badly shaken after a rough landing in the water.

She returns to her apartment with Misty Knight and is not the Phoenix when the troubles with the Shi'ar come. Though she is outed as mutant to her parents. The X-Men and the Starjammers find an alternative way to defeat D'Ken ...and the M’Kraan crystal is not damaged.

Once home, Jean is kidnapped after a baseball game along with Banshee, Colossus, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Phoenix, Storm, and Wolverine by Warhawk. They end up in a Texas Circus (poor Kurt, not again) run by Mesmero thinking they're Circus Performers. Beast, who's still doing some Avenging, finds them and smacks them around until they remember who they. The team is pissed and kick the crap out of Mesmero and his henchmen.

They are then attacked by an insane Magneto for no reason at all except that he has been telepathically tampered with by an evil geneticist called Sinister. Nutty!Mags whisks the group off, including Jean (variation from canon), and battles them in an Antarctic base. After meeting Nanny, they manage to free themselves while Magneto rants and raves about things that never happen. Once again the X-Men are forced to fight their former friend until the base collapse. Beast and Crazy!Magneto manage to escape and Erik heads off to be crazy some more.

From beneath the base, Jean and the rest of the team manage to tunnel their way out... and into the Savage Land.

Beast, thinking everyone's dead, goes back to tell Xavier who is still in New York with the Shi'ar princess Lilandra. Xavier is unable to telepathically reach anyone because they're in the Savage Land, so he also believes they're dead. He's shocked at what Magneto did but too weakened by grief to hunt down his old friend. Instead, he opts to take up Lilandra's offer to join her on the Shi'ar homeworld and they head off together.

Meanwhile, the X-Men have wacky adventures in the Savage Land. Then they get caught up in an adventure in Japan, where Logan meets Mariko. After they leave Japan, they are taken down by Alpha Flight, a government-sponsored Canadian superhero team, who've been hired to capture Wolverine. Northstar is a dick. The X-Men have Canadian hijinks and finally they head back to Westchester.

They find Professor X gone.

Since she never manifested the Phoenix Force, Jean is NOT stalked by Mastermind. Instead, she leaves the team again to go on an extended Sabbatical, starting with backpacking in Europe.

2000

The X-Men discover the joys of Murderworld.

The X-Men battle Proteus without Jean.

Xavier returns home.

Jean is not there for the rescue of Kitty Pryde from the White Queen or accompanying hijinks of the X-Men taking on the Hellfire club. The whole event is far less dramatic, since Jean isn't there being seduced into Dark Phoenix-dom by Mastermind.

There is no Dark Phoenix saga and therefore no backlash from the government or Shi'ar trail. So Jean doesn't die. However, after their skirmish with the Hellfire Club, Xavier has a new student: Kitty Pryde.

Next, Dracula goes after Storm and loses, while Nightcrawler puts all his dots in True Faith.

Nightcrawler's 21st birthday (November 11th, 2000) ends with his foster mother Margali sending the X-Men into a nasty version of Hell. Dr. Strange is called in to get them out and Margali realizes he didn't mean to kill her biological son Stephen, who had actually become a killer. Also, Nightcrawler does not have and never will have a romantic relationship with Amanda/Jimaine, the sister he was brought up with since infancy.

Kitty officially becomes an X-Man but cannot decide on a codename. Eventually she becomes Shadowcat.

2001 - 2007

There is no Days of Future Past, as Future!Kate Pryde's timeline is not generated from this AU. Instead, Shadowcat has odd dreams that she has to stop Mystique from killing Sen. Robert Kelley. She becomes convinced that if he dies, something bad will happen. Meanwhile, Destiny tells Mystique that Robert Kelley needed to die by accidentally reading into a different universe without knowing it. The X-Men stop the Brotherhood from killing him and Mystique makes a comment to Nightcrawler about their similar looks. The team asks him to reconsider his stance on mutants, since the Dark Phoenix Saga never occurred.

There is no Nimrod either.

Cyclops's brother Alex Summers joins up as Havok.

Wolverine and Nightcrawler go help Alpha Flight.

Shadowcat has to fight a demon by herself when she's alone at the mansion in December.

The X-Men have a lot of adventures, including another clash with Magneto. When he almost kills Shadowcat, a mere child not unlike his own Anya once was, he snaps out of his crazy. He is completely shocked by what he's been doing and does not understand why.

The first class of New Mutants is formed. The team starts with the Southern Cannonball, Cheyenne Mirage, Scottish Wolfsbane, Brazillian Sunspot and Vietnamese Karma who soon leaves to search for her lost siblings. Early additions to the team include Illyana Rasputin taking on the name Magik after a trip/aging through Limbo, Doug Ramsey who helps communicate with the alien Warlock, and South American (or British?) Magma. Illyana becomes fast BFFs with Shadowcat.

God Loves, Man Kills

The Brood!

Scott never meets Maddie Pryor, since Jean is never cloned. (Cloning a mutant is impossible due to the rule of the 198.)

Rogue, a former member of Mystique's Brotherhood, arrives at the mansion after an incident with Carol Danvers leaves Ms. Marvel in a coma and Rogue with her powers (and voice in her head) permanently. She speaks with Xavier and moves into Jean's old room with Jean's blessing.

Jean attends Wolverine's marriage to Mariko, which never occurs as Mariko is killed.

The Past ... Of Future Days also doesn't happen, since there is no Rachel Summers. And hence, the reason behind no Nimrod.

Dazzler the Rock Star shows up and becomes an X-Man.

Jean tags along on the adventure in Asgard where the X-Men, New Mutants and Alpha Flight battle Loki. But she leaves before finding out about Charles' failing health and isn't there when Charles' is Beamed Up to the Shi'ar to heal. She also misses Magneto becoming the new headmaster/team member.

After a talk with Shadowcat, Magneto goes to visit his still living daughter, Anya who is now a teacher in Poland. The pair go to Magda's grave, who died of ovarian cancer years before and was the reason Erik Lensherr decided to go to medical school before leaving for Israel (instead of being an orderly). He returns to act as headmaster of the New Mutants much more grounded.

Psylocke joins the X-Men, followed by Longshot.

The Mutant Massacre happens and Piotr, Kurt and Kitty are injured and sent to Muir. Unlike the 616 universe, however, their injuries are not nearly as severe (as Riptide and Vertigo are not Marauders ) and Piotr returns home quickly and in fine condition (at least physically). Additionally, Warren loses his wings and leaves the team.

Havok has his dream about the X-Men being in danger, but it is unrelated to Magneto, who never becomes White King of the HFC.

Cyclops is among the X-Men in Dallas in Fall of the Mutants (in place of the non-existing Maddie Pryor and since X-Factor never formed). He is killed and reborn (thanks, Roma!) along with Colossus, Dazzler, Havok, Longshot, Psylocke, Rogue, Storm, and Wolverine.

Cyclops refuses to go along with the X-Men pretending to be dead. Storm and Wolverine give good arguments and it is agreed that they'll be dead to the world but not their loved ones. They inform the other original X-Men, the New Mutants, the still Muir-infirmed Shadowcat and Nightcrawler, and the rest of their friends/family that they are alive and fine, just hiding for awhile. Then they head off to Australia.

They do not have to fight Brood infected mutants, since Blindside, Lockup, Spitball, Temptress, Tension, Whiphand are not part of the 198. Nor do they encounter Punchout, Pipeline and Hawkshaw, since Genosha doesn't have a mutant population. (Look further down to see how Genosha is handled.)

The X-Men's stay in Australia last from first their "death" in Dallas to The Battle of Muir Island for a span of several years.

During this time, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat become part of a small superhero team called Excalibur that also includes Captain America, Meggan, Pete Wisdom and Daytripper. They have some adventures (but lacking Rachel Summers, things were MUCH less...cosmic) and Kurt leads the team.

After going through the Siege Perilous, Rogue gets stuck in the Savage Land and meets up with Magneto. He is able to help her deal with Carol Danver's pissed off psyche who had become tainted by the Shadow King. Mags does not kill Zaladane, he's just there to explore.

Later, Storm is "killed" when Nanny and the Orphan Maker attempt to "save" the X-Men against their will. When Havok shoots the ship down, her (fake robot) body is found in the wreckage and the X-Men grieve.

The Inferno does not happen. And since there was no baby Nathan, there is no Cable in this AU. Instead, the X-Men are still hanging out in Australia doing stuff and using Gateway's portals. They occasionally sneak off to see friends and loved ones (instead of ONLY going to the mall) But that mall trip gets them Jubilee who joins the X-Men in Australia (after sneaking around for forever).

Also around this time Magma leaves the New Mutants for the Hellions. There are several more additions to the team including Skids, Boomer, Rusty and Rictor. Not long after, Mirage decides to relocate to Asgard after an adventure there.

At this time, Rogue leaves the Savage Land and heads to Muir Island. She helps the X-Men (who portal-ed in) fight the Shadow King and Malice.

Another stint through a portal leaves Psylocke with her new Japanese body (Thanks Kwannon!) and awesome ninja skills.

Meanwhile, Storm has been de-aged and is hunted by the Shadow King. He frames her for murder and she returns to thieving, where she befriends Gambit . Another encounter with Nanny restores her memory, and, still child-aged, she takes Gambit home with her back to the X-Men. Unlike the 616 universe, Forge is able to find a way to both re-age and re-power her.

Genosha is the 90's X-Men cartoon version. As taken from Wikipedia: "Genosha was claimed to be a mutant-friendly environment, where those possessing the "x-gene" could live peacefully without fear of persecution; this was all a lie. As soon as any mutants would show up, they'd be captured. Power-negating collars would be placed around their necks and they'd be put to work building Sentinels for the Genoshan government, under the direction of Bolivar Trask, Cameron Hodge, Henry Peter Gyrich, and a government official known as the Leader. This all changed with the arrival of the X-Men." There simply aren't enough mutant worldwide for Genosha to have a "mutate" slave population. And, as previously mentioned, Cable doesn't exist in this AU. Warpath is one of the mutants rescued by the X-Men. Also, hearing about Genosha (and his old pal Cameron) and with his newly restored wings, Warren rejoins the X-Men for this mission.

The New Mutants, no longer teens, graduate. Magik takes leave to Limbo, Warlock goes off to explore, Cannonball returns home for a visit, Wolfsbane returns to Muir Island and Cypher joins the X-Men as their techie. Not long after parting ways, Skids is critically injured and Rusty is murdered by the Friends of Humanity.

While searching for the missing X-Men, Forge and Banshee form an ad-hoc team of X-Men to defend Muir Island from the Reavers. This team then falls under the thrall of the psychic Shadow King, and it takes the combined efforts of the actual X-Men and their allies to defeat him.

After the Battle of Muir, Nightcrawler rejoins the X-Men, as does Shadowcat for a short time before taking a leave of absence to get her bachelor's degree. Beast also rejoins the team (though he still sometimes occasionally Avengers).

Due to their larger numbers, the X-Men then split into two teams: Blue and Gold. These teams include Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Psylocke, Beast, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Angel, Cypher and Jean Grey with Storm and Cyclops leading. Xavier and Jubilee are also there, followed soon by newcomers Marrow, Cecelia Reyes and Maggott.

Also, Val Cooper speaks with Xavier about forming a government-run mutant team. Havok takes charge of this project, pulling a number of the mutants present during the Muir Island Saga in and forming X-Factor (which did not exist previously). The team also includes Wolfsbane, Polaris, Multiple Man, Strong Guy and Forge.

The Phalanx Covenant occurs as a mix of canon and The Animated Series. The X-Men are attacked by the Phalanx, mutant-hating humans who have used the alien Warlock's techno-organic virus to turn into techno-organic beings themselves. With these powers the Phalanx are able to change their shape and assimilate organic matters. Before long, the most of the X-Men are all captured. With the X-Men gone, Banshee, Emma Frost, Jubilee and Sabretooth have to save the next generation of mutants from the Phalanx agents led by Harvest. They mostly succeed but Blink dies.

X-Factor discovers that the Phalanx are losing their hive-mind programming and are becoming more and more independent and alien. The rogue Phalanx Warlock takes Forge, Wolfsbane and Cannonball on a mission to prevent the Phalanx Shinar from contacting the alien Phalanx.

With the X-Men missing, Wolverine and Cyclops search for them with Jean's assistance. Eventually they are saved and the people restored. Astra never creates Joseph - a possible alternative is Magneto is made young and memory wiped.

After the Covenant Cannonball joins main team. Also, Warlock takes off into outer space to protect the Earth from another such attack.

Subsequently, Emma Frost reopens the Massachusetts Academy with Banshee for the students rescued from the Phalanx. The student body includes Jubilee, Husk, Chamber, Skin, Synch and M. Maggott and Marrow are sent there, too, but it doesn't take, the former returning to the X-Mansion and the latter going back underground with the Morlocks. Not long after, the mysterious Penance appears.

Onslaught never happens.

Operation Zero Tolerance occurs but on a smaller scale. After, Cecelia Reyes quits to become a doctor again.

The X-Men rebuild and carry on, as Genosha is NOT given to Magneto. (There are not enough mutants to have their own country and he's not a megalomaniac this time.) X-Factor comes to a quiet close as the government decides to go a different direction. Polaris and Havok rejoin the X-Men and Maggott disappears only to be found a short time later murdered by Friends of Humanity.

The Six Month Gap does not occur. As a result, Synch does not die defusing a bomb, Jean and Psylocke do not swap powers, and Pete Wisdom does not wear an eyepatch for any reason. Ever.

Moira and Colossus don't die and Eve of Destruction doesn't happen, either. Erik Lensherr stays low under the radar, working on his own things.

Anything to do with Cassandra Nova never happened. But Emma does join the X-Men with the graduation of her Generation X students and Chamber and Husk came with her.

Moonstar, Northstar and Sage also join the team around this time. Not long after, Jubilee returns, too. With the large number of X-Men, a third team is formed.

The Draco and Kurt as Pope NEVER EVER EVER HAPPENS. Magma, Skin, Jubilee and other young mutants are not crucified. She Lies with Angels does not happen, either. (Curse you, Chuck Austen!)

There aren't enough young mutants yet to form an actual school (like Grant Morrison's), but Charles is aware of some teenagers who've recently manifested their powers.

The sibling team of Slipstream and Lifeguard briefly join the team. A group of rogue Shi'ar come for Heather, who isn't actually a mutant but half-Shi'ar, and her brother is killed in the crossfire. The aliens get away with Lifeguard and later a message from Heather comes through saying she's okay and not to come after her.

2008

Wolverine is lured into finding the missing son of a Japanese acquaintance and ambushed by the Gorgon, who's taken over leadership of the Hand and most of HYDRA. Logan is killed and then resurrected by the Hand's dark arts, brainwashed and sent to kill various small-time villains. He also steals a disc with many of Reed Richards's inventions and ideas, and distracts Daredevil while the Gorgon takes out Elektra.

Then, he infiltrates the X-Mansion with an invisibility device and forces Psylocke into Cerebra to kill the President. Betsy manages to deconstruct Wolverine's bomb and he is finally subdued by the X-Men and Captain America, but not before killing Northstar. He, like Logan, is resurrected evil and becomes an agent of the Hand. Wolverine feels bad and captures Northstar for S.H.I.E.L.D. to give them the chance to deprogram him.

Eventually, JP gets better. (And has a nice reunion with his sister -- who also had a nice mind-screwing or five in her lifetime.) Instead of returning to the X-Men, the twins join the new X-Factor line-up of Multiple Man, Wolfsbane, M, Strong Guy, Siryn and Rictor.

House of M in occurs in 616 leading Wanda to make her Wish and rewrite all of reality. Decimation leads to this world being born and retroactively given its history up to now, with the mutant population having always been limited to 198.

The current year is 2008
