Secrets Within, A different kind of Harry Potter

.:Secrets [ W i t h i n ] Everyone has their what ifs in life. What if I had studied for that test? What if I hadn’t told that lie? What if the prophecy had been about Neville Longbottom instead of Harry Potter? What if on that fateful Halloween night in 1981 The Longbottoms turned out to be the ones that the Dark Lord was after and all the worrying that the Potters had done was for nothing? What if Harry never had to be the boy who lived? If he never lost his parents?
On October 31st 1981, the dark Wizard known as Lord Voldemort by passed Godric’s Hollow without a second thought, in favor of a small cottage just outside of Buckingham. In this cottage lived two Aurors, Frank and Alice Longbottom, happily getting their son ready for bed after taking him out to enjoy Halloween. All dangers had been put from their mind by their old friend Albus Dumbledore, who had assured them that the family the prophecy had meant was the Potters and not them. Though they were worried for their friends, two people they’d gone to school with, it was a relief that their lives could be lived in a sort of peace.
The Dark Lord busted into the cottage just as the Longbottoms were coming down the stairs to have a few minutes of quite time before they retired to bed themselves. Frank’s eyes lit up with confusion and fear. Alice didn’t even think twice before she turned on the steps and rushed back up to Neville’s room. Poor Frank was killed without even having a chance, he’d been caught off guard. It was only moments after Voldemort had broke into the house that he was pushing the door open to Neville’s nursery where Alice stood holding her son franticly thinking of a safe way out. She pleaded with the heartless monster in front of her to spare her son, but Voldemort would hear nothing of it. In his power hungry mind nothing would stand in his way, not even a defenseless little baby. Alice died protecting her son.
However, what happened next had never happened before in the history of the Wizarding World. The Killing Curse that had been meant for little Neville backfired onto the caster. Voldemort disappeared leaving Neville an orphan with a lightening shaped scar on his forehead. The baby was picked up by Dumbledore and taken to Frank’s mother, the only living relative that the boy had. There he and his grandmother were sent into hiding in the muggle world. Neville was never to know his wizarding past until he was ready to attend Hogwarts.
The time came when Neville had to fight Voldemort, just as Harry would have. That bravery that they spoke of in his first year, was more then just sticking up to his friends; it was what enabled him to defeat the dark lord, and at the same time, destroy himself.
Now, in 1997, Neville and Voldemort have both been dead for two years and the Wizarding world has known a peace that they didn’t for the ten years that Neville was in hiding and no one was sure what had happened to Voldemort. But, what is peace, really?
On Secrets Within, we will dive into the characters that have changed, and the ones that have stayed the same; we’ll touch base with the characters that were never supposed to live, and miss the ones that were never supposed to die.
