Live-action Slam Dunk movie in production
[spoiler]Chang Hong Television Group (Taiwan) and Shanghai Film and Television Group (China) will begin production work next week on a live-action adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk manga.
The manga ran to for volumes and was the basis of a 101-episode anime series and four animated movies.
The live-action film will be shot in studios in Shanghai and on location in Taiwain. With a budget of US$10 million, it is slated for a Winter 2008 release. The cast will feature Jay Chou, Charlene Choi and Chen Bo-lin, while the crew includes art director Yee Chung Man (nominated for a costume design Oscar for Curse of the Golden Flower) and Tony Ching Siu Tung, the action director of both Curse of the Golden Flower and House of Flying Daggers. The cinematographer of Curse of the Golden Flower, Zhao Xiao Ding, will join the crew in that capacity as well. Slam Dunk is set to be directed by Kevin Chu Yin Ping ("Expect a Miracle").
Foreign distribution rights have already been sold for Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and an international sales agent will be appointed in the next several months. [/spoiler]

'Kekkaishi' menang anugerah Shogakukan Manga Award yg ke-52
[spoiler]Yellow Tanabe has been awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award for his Shonen manga, Kekkaishi. The Shogakukan Manga Award is a yearly prize given to manga artists in various categories, including Shonen-style manga, Shoujo-style manga and Children's manga.
On winning the award, Tanabe commented, "First, to everyone who reads the manga, to everyone who supports Kekkaishi, and to everyone who supports me, I want to express my gratitude. Thank you for allowing me to receive this award. I'm a little stunned that these circumstances, but this blessing provides an excellent feeling, and I am happy. I'm still a novice, and this is only possible thanks to the people who enjoy my manga. Thank you very much!"
Yellow Tanabe won the New Comic Big Prize in 2000 for his work "Yami no Naka" (Middle of Darkness). His next work, "Lost Princess", debuted in 2002. Kekkaishi began publication in Weekly Shonen Sunday in early 2004, and an anime series based on the manga started airing in October 2006.
Viz Media publishes the Kekkaishi manga in North America, with Volume 9 due out May 15th[/spoiler]

Blue Dragon: anime terakhir dr Akira Toriyama??
[spoiler]Last week, Akira Toriyama (Creator of Dragonball) and Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy) appeared at Tokyo Anime Fair to discuss the Blue Dragon anime, which is based off of the XBox360 game of the same name. During an interview with Anime Supervisor Yukihiro Matsushita, Toriyama made the remark "This may be my final anime."
Toriyama said the following regarding Blue Dragon: "The offer to direct an animated version of Blue Dragon came in February of last year. Studio Pierrot approached me regarding it. I knew that Sakaguchi had been working on assembling staff to produce a game, although at the time Blue Dragon hadn't yet been formally announced. According to the materials, it was to be a fantasy world like "Lord of the Rings", with a detailed world view and story."
"This may be my final anime, I'm a little worried (about it). There's incredible pressure, but at the same time, there's a sense of accomplishment -- that it's worth doing. Blue Dragon will be a masterpiece, not simply because I'm working hard on it, but because the staff is expecting nothing less."
Blue Dragon will begin airing on TV Tokyo on April 7th. [/spoiler]

Watak Detective Conan digunakan bg tujuan berkempen
[spoiler]Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a public relations campaign that uses the manga character Detective Conan to educate children on the ministry's mission. As unveiled on April 6, the centerpiece of the campaign is a manga-format pamphlet entitled "Detective Conan Investigates the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!"
In the pamphlet, the father of Conan's girlfriend is traveling abroad when his luggage and passport gets stolen and he gets caught in an apparent riot with gunshots. The ministry saves the day by issuing a new passport and informing him that "Country A" is just celebrating a festival with firecrackers.
The pamphlet credits list Masaru Ota and Kazuhiro Kubota (staff artists of Conan creator Gosho Aoyama) for the art. The ministry plans to distribute the 5000 copies of the 16-page, half-B5-sized pamphlet to elementary and junior high school students on field trips to the ministry and other occasions. The pamphlet cost the ministry 5 million yen (US$41,000) to produce.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Sad news to inform all off our watchers for Death Note.
We have just received a C&D(Cease and Desist) from VIZ Media stating for us to stop all distribution of Death Note by 22nd June 2007. (This letter has also been served to Animanda, c1anime? & Several Death Note fan sites.)
Naturally, we will comply with Viz’s request and cease all distribution/subbing activities of Death Note.
Originally, we started subbing Death Note because we enjoyed it and wanted provide the anime community with fast, reliable subs. But Death Note is licensed, and Viz has requested that we cease our subbing and distribution of Death Note. It’s been a pleasure subbing Death Note for you all, and we hope you’ll stick around as we embark on other projects[/spoiler]

Utada Hikaru menyanyikan lagu tuk filem Evangelion
[spoiler]The producers of the Rebuild of Evangelion movie remake series have chosen singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada's "Beautiful World" single for the first movie's opening theme. Evangelion:1.0 You are (Not) Alone (Evangelion Shin Gekijôban: Jo or "New Evangelion Movie Edition: Introduction") opens in Japanese theaters on September 1. The movie's trailer uses a 2007 mix (preview) of her 2000 cover of Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words)." "Fly Me to the Moon," as sung by other artists including Claire, was the ending theme of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion television series.
Utada is an internationally known, bestselling pop artist born in New York City and raised in Japan and the United States. Her rise to stardom in the mid-1990s roughly coincided with the rise of Evangelion's popularity. Nissin Cup Noodle and Bandai Visual have previously used Utada's "Kiss & Cry" (preview) for their Freedom promotional video project. Toshiba EMI will sell all three songs with karaoke reprises on one CD on August 29 for 1260 yen (about US$10.30) after initial offerings online in Japan. Utada also sang the theme songs for her former husband's Casshern live-action movie remake and the Hana Yori Dango 2 live-action television adaptation[/spoiler]
