Good Day
Mrs. Kelly, one of my regular clients, had a battle with low blood sugar in my salon one day. In a panic, I quickly called Adrienne Meck at the Health Mart pharmacy across the street. She arrived in a matter of seconds with a bottle of glucose tablets, a tube of glucose gel, and a glucometer. Already Mrs. Kelly was not responding, and her eyes were closed.

She immediately instructed me to call 911 and began working with the glucometer so I could give them her sugar reading – which was dangerously low. Adrienne started giving Mrs. Kelly the glucose gel while the paramedics were on their way. Constantly talking to her, she asked Mrs. Kelly if she could tell her whether her hair was straight or curly—she could not. She pointed to the cup of water sitting next to her, and after a few sips, the medics walked into the salon. Adrienne told them right away that she was the pharmacist from Beaver Health Mart, and had taken her glucose reading and given her the gel. Finally, Mrs. Kelly looked up and said, Curly, your hair is curly.

Her sugar levels had never reached a low like this before. She was very lucky and so thankful that there was someone so close who knew exactly what to do.

Mrs. Kelly called me later at the pharmacy to thank me for helping her so quickly. I don’t know if I’m a hero, but every time I think of this incident, I realize how happy I am that I chose to be a pharmacist.” -- Adrienne Meck, Pharm.D., Health Mart Pharmacist
