Title: TV guide interview

Serenity - July 27, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
So I open up my tv guide today and who's there? James Roday!!

they had a Q&A with him so I'll type it up's probably on the tvguide site but it lags my computer something terrible and I feel like typing :)
Please excuse any typos.

Q: The ratings for Psych are terrific, and your "star is born" reviews have been over the moon. So just how big is your head these days?

A: It's way too big and it keeps getting bigger. I mean, have you seen the size of my head on the bus stops and billboards? Our promotion has been a little scary. But I'm not complaining. What's happening right now feels really dreamy, and I'm hoping I don't wake up anytime soon.

Q: With good reason. You were a regular on three series: Ryan Caulfield: Year One, First Years and Miss Match-all of them promising, all of them big fat stink bombs.

A: And the only common thread in all those failed shows was me! With Dule Hill coming from The West Wing, I was like, "Dude! I hope your magic stuff overrides what I'm bringing to the party, because I'm the Kiss of death!" Dule was really calm and oddly confident about this show. I was all over the place.

Q: What's it like when you career's in the dead zone?

A: It got so bad I started thinking that maybe I should stop trying, that maybe the medium of TV wasn't for me.

Q: Not to beat a dead horse, but let's not forget your movie fiasco, "The Dukes of Hazzard"

A: I never got my hopes too high on that one because I was playing the villian and making fun of NASCAR. [Laughs] That wasn't too smart since the NASCAR crowd was our target audience.

Q: There are some pretty grisly murders on Psych. Any concern that that your character, Shawn, could get too flip?

A: For all his puckish qualities, Shawn is decent at heart and we can't ever lose that. At the same time, we make sure you never get emotionally attached to the victim. Psych is not about real human beings who are no longer breathing. It's about why a dead body makes these two characters go to SeaWorld and pretend to be whale trainers.

Q: Who is your comedy god?

A: I worship at the altar of "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." Will Ferrell is a genius.

Q: Rumor is, you've been seeing real psychics. Fess up!

A: I've consulted with three psychics, not to get readings but to ask questions: What happens to your body when you get a psychic message? Do you get hot flashes? Does your foot twitch? Do you see double? To fake it as a psychic, Shawn needs a lot of tricks at his disposal, so, hey, I'll work with anything

Q: Then your a believer?

A: Sure. Of course there are charlatans, but I definaitely believe there are people with real psychic abilities. We're a fascinating species.

Q: What about Shawn's love life? For a doofus he's quite the chick magnet.

A: Shawn and Gus are goofy, but they have a charm and self-awareness that allow them to laugh at themselves. They're not trying to look cool, and women appreciate that. But a lot of it is the bagic of TV. We're not exactly Crockett and Tubbs.

Q: You got a girlfriend?

A: Nope. I'm single-and happily so.

Q: Shawn's observational skills are fantastic. What about yours?

A: This is embarrassing: A week after I moved into my new apartment in Vancouver to start Psych, I went to the store and loaded up on frozen food, then realized in the checkout line that I didn't have a microwave. So I put it all back and left with just toilet paper and a far of peanuts. When I got home, right above the stove is the exono-size microwave big enought to cook a Thanksgiving turky. That's how observant I am.

lol that last bit is hilarious!!!

and I was thinking that they probably filmed in Vancouver but wasn't sure....that's great!
