I stumbled upon this place and have enjoyed reading the discussions from people who have actually taken the time to read theosophical texts. Other than on the yahoo group I cannot find a place that is a current community for theosophical discussions (that's not New Age or pseudo-this or that).
Where did everybody go? |

Hi CL and welcome to the forum.
I'm not really sure why it happened, but interest in this forum started to drop off a few years ago, and kept dropping until it became practically zero. But we can still have theosophical discussions, and there are still people who look at this forum and may respond to any discussions we have. There is another forum which is slightly more active, the Wheaton TSA forum: http://theosophical.ning.com/forum Do you call yourself a Theosophist? -------------------- Madame Blavatsky’s aim was to rescue the archaic truths in organized religions which always become distorted and perverted as the centuries go by.

Yes, I am active in my local ULT.
I've been to the ning site in the past but have always preferred this style of message board. Bummer everyone migrated I've enjoyed reading posts from years gone by so thanks for keeping this open. |

CL,
Perhaps this forum will become more active someday... Are there any Theosophical ideas, any of HPB's ideas which do not fit into your own personal belief system? -------------------- Madame Blavatsky’s aim was to rescue the archaic truths in organized religions which always become distorted and perverted as the centuries go by.

I am 25 and can tell you that "my generation" (stupid term) online is used to this bulletin style message board. It blows my mind people still use email lists, groups, and ning.
I registered and was approved for that other site, thank you for the referral. With all due respect to the members, students, and staff there, the posts lack documentation or studies of the original texts other than the SD Study Group which I joined! Instead it is the same dreams, healing, what is karma, blah blah blah metaphysics the internet is famous for. Shame, because I really enjoy reading the past posts on this site. I guess I will have a party all my own here with you! Seems like there were some great individuals familiar with the work and passionate enough to discuss it. Can you message me your email or post it here? I would like to contact you. |

I still visit the forum hoping that the Pralaya comes to an end...
I don´t like any of the ning sites, for me theos-talk is the only place where you can discuss something. |

Aldebaran.
All things come to an end, even Prayalas. Unfortunately, that also applies to man-made structures such as civilisations, societies, buildings. And web-based foums. |

Hi Harvey,
Yes, it's true. Let's just hope the world-wide apathy towards Theosophy is only caused by something like astological conditions, and will lift one day. -------------------- Madame Blavatsky’s aim was to rescue the archaic truths in organized religions which always become distorted and perverted as the centuries go by.

I suspect it is because there is no longer a recognizable URL, though perhaps it happened before that. Perhaps you could get a dynamic DNS URL using dyn.com. The theosophy.net forums are still sometimes actives, but I have had more in-depth discussions here.

theosophy is a very serious matter....
a lot of people simply are not serious about their spiritual development... theosophy also needs to be studied and applied.... and again most people choose to live the trivial life.... |

Paul, you say 'alot of people are simply not serious', however alot of people are
_too_ serious. Just turning 66 yesterday, I have my strong opinions, that make me abit far from unopinionnated about the many Theosophies that abound. So, sometimes silence is golden. About the trivial life of some, I read Seneca: " The wise man will have no anger toward sinners. Do you ask why? Because he knows that no one is born wise but becomes so, knows that only the fewest in every age turn out wise, because he has fully grasped the conditions of human life, and no sensible man becomes angry with nature." On Anger, II.x.6 God grant me sensibility, Jim |

We are encouraged by HPB & her Gurus to 'make Theosophy a living power' in our lives. This lack of a living spiritual power radiating from us, leads to little or no Presence around us, and thus, little or no spiritual help for other beings.
As the Mahasattva (great bodhisattva) Vajragarbha says in the Ten Grounds Sutra: "If one fails to personally course in goodness himself, and yet nonetheless expects that he might cause others to dwell in goodness simply by explaining such dharmas for their sakes, this would be a complete impossibility." |

Paul,
I know what you are trying to say. Many people in this world do not have spiritual development as one of their main goals in life. Therefore, it is our job to show them by example that spiritial advancement should be among everyone's top goals in life. -------------------- Madame Blavatsky’s aim was to rescue the archaic truths in organized religions which always become distorted and perverted as the centuries go by.
