So I'm going to be part of a megabattle on October 5th and it is shaping up to be EPIC! I am taking 3000 points of dwarfs and on my team (team good) we have 3 empire armies (1500, 2500 and 3000 points respectively), a 2500 point high elf army and a 1500 point lizardman army. Each person involved also gets to bring a free lord choice on top of their army. We have Emperor Carl Franz, Valten Exalted of Sigmar (the most powerful version), Balthazar Gelt, The Venerable Lord Croak, Teclis and I'm bringing The High King Thorgrum Grudgebearer.

I think our force as it stands now has 9 Empire great cannons, 2 steam tanks, 2 hellblaster volleyguns, 2 mortars, 1 rocket battery, 1 dwarf cannon, 2 dwarf bolt throwers, 1 organ gun, 1 flame cannon, the anvil of doom and 2 high elf reapeater bolt throwers. By myself I have 9 dispel dice and 7 auto-dispel runes and we will have quite a few more from all the spellcasters we have coming.

Team good is outnumbered by about 3000 points (there is an overabundance of evil armies in the league I am in) but we've got a few tricks up our collective sleeve!

I'll be sure to take pictures and give a report of some kind (probably just the highlights) after the big day. This is my first megabattle, anyone had any experience with one? Things to expect?

Things to expect? Carnage. As people finish their movement first and want to go onto magic but others taking ages to finish. Frustration when you forget to move that vital unit. Arguements about rules as so many different armies and units and special rules collide. People finishing early as they have 'places to go' or surrender or something and a big part of the allied army just disappears. Breaks as such a game will take ages. Head aches caused by days of thinking about nothing but warhammer rules and dice chances.

Just a few things.

So let me get this straight. You get a 'free' lord character on top of your army? So the 2500pts of High Elves can have a Archmage with book of hoeth and then Teclis. Thats some serious magic when combined with everything else!

Whats the turn limit? Unlimited? If not consider talking the High Elf player to take the vortex shard. At games of this size having one whole magic phase destroyed can cripple some armies. 10 Turns? Thats actually 9 turns where he gets magic and if you kill off the mages thats less.

I haven't seen the high elf player's army list but I know he has more than 3 mages on top of Teclis. We have a few empire wizards as well as a swack-load of warrior priests and even a few arch-lectors. I'm not too concerned about rule-arguments, we have an impartial judge who knows all the rules backward and forward for all armies as well as team captains who have been playing the game upwards of 10 years! I'm pretty sure nobody will take their armies off the field, we are a pretty close league so if someone had to leave their models would be well looked-after and returned safe and sound.

I'm not sure about the number of turns or if there will be some type of scenario. All will be revealed on the day of the game (or maybe slightly before so we can plan a strategy).

Sorry about the double post, I was just re-reading what SDETT posted and I'm curious as to what the vortex shard does. I'm not familiar with it.

The Vortex Shard is used at the start of your enemy magic phase. The magic phase ends immediatly and any power/dispell dice stored in magic items (friend or foe) are lost. In addition any remains in play spells are dispelled (friend or foe). 75pts. One use only (damn it! ).

Its a very very good item and has seen vampire counts armies dead in the usual 6 turn game. Its basically a super dispell scroll and well worth it (unless against dwarves).
