Right the year is closing and with getting everything sorted and faffing around in general this years comps have been non existent really. So I want Ideas on next years competitions like what to do and how many a month. I was thinking just one comp per month to last the whole month in which case I just need to know when to do what comp. This is a list of previous comps we've done that I can remember off the top of my head:

Painting competition
Fluff competition
Army list competition
Signature competition
Hurt and heal competition
Conversion competition
Character competition *
Archery competition *
Drawing competition *

huh thought I'd remember more... if you can think of more please tell me here as well as your thoughts on the subject. I'll add a star for the ones I've edited in.

I like the idea of an army competition of some sort which can combine all the competitions into one. You make an army list, make up some fluff to go along with it, and convert/paint it up. You could do it to a lesser degree with a character competition where you make a character and select their magic items, write up some sort of background story and then convert/paint up a model to represent the character. We could even take it one step further and have a gladiator-type battle royale using the warhammer fantasy online system that we've developed.

The hurt and heal was alright too, but it would have to be adjusted slightly since there are not enough active from each kindred. Maybe it could be a sign-up thing and make it individual?

I really like that character Idea combining a few comps into one. perhaps we could add that in place of the old character comp where you make up a character with rediculous stats lol.

Im glad you did this Seany i think this will spark interest in the site again, not only with new members but maybe a lot of the older members that don't post as much will return to the site (like me).

I really think Hurt and Heal was always good for the site, it gave everyone a reason to check back to the site every day. It was especially good for members that might not exactly play warhammer anymore but still wanted to participate in the community. I think should have games like that running throughout the year with breaks in between them.

As for competition idea's, we could spread some categories out througout the year so there is more going on, for example: Have one month be the painting competition for best character model, and the next month have it be best Forest Spirit unit, and then the next month have it be best Elven unit. That way instead of just one painting competition with multiple categories there can be painting competitions going on all year. The same idea can be used with army lists and conversions too. I dunno just an idea.

I couldn't really think of any new competition idea's... hmm... maybe like "Coolest Elvish Name" competition. Kind of stupid but thats all i could think of.

Ok I like that painting Idea WG. Perhaps every other month a new category as every month would be abit too much. I noticed a while back that new members would always seem to come on just after a comp they would like has gone. With the new comps I want to focus on wood elves only though, do you think that would be a problem. I mean we're a wood elf site but only like half the members now actually actively play wood elves lol.

Need to get a plan of which comps are on which month so kindreds can plan for it before hand.

Another Idea I was having was for just before the new year (say 1 week before) we have a new years resolution thing where everybody re-picks their kindred. that way if any don't get picked we can drop them and it should leave only active kindreds for the comps. Any old members that come back can re-pick too afterwards if they were in a kindred that has gone.

I like the sound of everything suggested so far from both of you.

I feel that regular competitions would be a very good way of revitalising the site.

Of course it means i'll have to kick start my Wood Elves but it'll be worth it lol.

Hey the character comp has already been done! By yours truly. Or did you forget? Shame on you! You've let me down and fallen into the trap set by the washing machines and the bowl of water. YES they have allied now! We are DOOMED!

I like the idea of the new years resolution. Re-picking kindreds and then having those kindreds with set goals for the year. These goals could be secret and when completed they get a cool prize like a big amount of kindred points or titles or something cool. Could be like win 3 painting comps for 100 KP.

Could i be a kindred leader?

I'll get brainstorming some new comps etc.

Edit: Got one! Sorta like fluff comp but not for warhammer but making a short story (i mean short too) then votings to see who wins. Could be a break from warhammer and let people like me get into more comps seeing as i cannot paint or convert to save my life.
Edit2: Got another! Best character in an RPG and best RPG? This could be every month too which makes it sure that RPGs will get completed.

Good ideas SDETT! I'm not into the RP too much but if kindred points were on the line I might give it a try. Sorry about stealing your character competition idea, I must not have been around for that one. Here I thought I had an original idea for once! Those washing machines and the bowl of water must be stopped!!!






P.s. Washing machines and bowls of water couldn't have thought that up on their own, there must be some sort of criminal mastermind at work!

How could I forget you started the original comp silly, the addition of what Hillbilly Carl said though defiantly sounds good though. I will be sorting out new kindred leaders once they have been re-arranged. Best rpg I'm not too sure about, perhaps at the end of the year things like that could be done but if it was every month new rpg's would spring up everywhere and non would be finished. The kindred resolutions of winning so many of something sounds promising though. Good stuff. I'm trying to keep everything wood elf though really so no non warhammer short stories. I know some people aren't interested built this is a wood elf site after all. I wouldn't shun anybody for making such a comp though and I would be more than happy to award points it just won't be one of the set comps for the year.

Keep the ideas flowing.

As far as redesigning the kindred system, what would we do?

Would we start from scratch, have less kindreds and allow everyone to pick a new team?

Or should we just push the focus onto a few of the existing kindreds?

Whatever everyone decides i think less kindreds is a good idea, i think there are 11 or something right now. With current activity levels i think it would be better for the site if that was trimmed down some. That way there will be nobody in a kindred by themselves and there will be more competition between existing kindreds (kind of like the Eternal vs. Waywatchers thing, that was a good time lol).

I think it should be important to mention, we shouldn't force anyone to do any of these things it should just be suggested and encouraged if thats what everyone decides on.

I was thinking of trimming it just to the ones that can be chosen in the wood elf book:
Alter
Wardancer
Waywatcher
Scout
Glamourweave
Wild rider
Eternal

Possibly change the scouts as they are basicly the same as Waywatchers. Probably change them for Wind riders.

With these changes everybody will get to pick a new kindred. I can't see anybody getting upset with this as at the moment being in a kindred only means a name. This will mean comps. If enough people are intrested in this I will change it ASAP and have the kindreds sorted out so everybody can nominate a leader etc. before the new years comps.

So your making a compo for me and Nelaifiwë? Never seen anyone else make "Proper elvish names" (as in Tolkien elvish).

Really I think there are many good ideas here. But one in particular caught my interest. Best RPGer compo! I vote for myself as a judge Not too sure if I should be the GM/host as well, but I can as I don't feel like actually taking part in the compo, just judging and such.

I think it would be a good way to keep people playing, well save for the fact we are all RP starved and need more of course
Maybe we can make something that match/beat the mercenaries? Would rawk huu?^^

Also, maybe we should try the Archery Compo again? I could be up for doing another run of that. And last but not least what about a WOB compo?

A new RP matching/beating the merc comp is madness, its impossible. That RP was a shining star in a pile of less than mediocre rpg's lol. Another similar feeling rpg would be amazing though...I promise not to use Ecthelion...

I never understood the archery comp though it always seemed to intrigue me. As long as some1 knows how it works thats fine too.

Ecthelion is a elvish name, but one of the few without a real meaning (Like Legolas means green leaf) It is also used by Gondorians who speak a form of elvish.
Though I thought you had simply copied it from the film/books, (Tower of Ecthelion etc) so mheee. Sorry for thinking you'd copy
