Just an idea but how about a little competition to do with character creation. Basically with the new books coming out (HE and VC) games workshop seem to be focusing alot on special characters so i thought we could do a little competition to see who could make the best character.

Basically you will need to choose either lord or hero level and then make up a stats line (M, WS, BS, S, T, W, I, A, Ld). Obviously all have to be appropiate for your character's level and race. Some basic rules here are that an Elf character cannot be T4 or higher, you can make them T3 or lower. There has to be a balance so if really strong (S6+) they will have to be low either in M or I. There are exceptions but remember no gods. Also include here the points value of your character (keep it reasonable).

Then comes special rules and equipment. Make these up or use items already available in current or older edition books. But remember that all items (apart from common magic ones) have a little describtion before the wordings of the rules beneath. Take any Wood elf item lets use Hail of Doom Arrow here look at it and you will see what i mean. No use putting in an item that says Bound spell level 4 contains fireball spell. Say what the item special rule looks like or how it was gained.

Then comes story. This is as important as anything else in the creation and for some the most important part. Nothing too long is needed though write to your hearts content (i can't promise the judges (if any) will stay awake to read it though). This will give the main impression and is a chance for you to explain where he/she got the magic items, abilities etc and gives depth to your character.

Then comes balance and playability. God characters like all stats are 10 and they cannot be hurt by magical or non-magical weapons are not allowed. By all means make them powerful but balance them out with disadvantages (like high points cost or additional negatives like takes up a rare slot etc). Also the character is supposed to be one you would like to play both against and with.

Note: No Half-Elves, Half-Vampires allowed. Make it original.
Second Note: May have a 'tagteam' like twins Neastra and Arahan are. Limited to one entry per member.
Third Note: Deadline for entries is 22/03/08.

This is just a suggestion its not an actual competition until i get the go ahead from the mods. Maybe kindred points could be up for grabs but seany is thinking about scraping them so if not just bragging rights (which is like gold dust!).

I think it would be better if entries were Pmed to me, then instead of judges i will post them up and we can vote for our favourite which i will make sure all entries would be anonymous at this point and then reveal the winner. Maybe the reward could be a member title of their choosing.

I'll give it until the 15/03/08. Oh and i shall be making my own character too thats why i want the winners to be chosen by voting that way we can all enter. Also please don't vote for yourself as it would be annoying if we all got one vote each. But obviously i cannot control your votes and your choice is your choice.

This is a really good idea. This is what I suggested we do on this forum in the To Do List. Good thing you came up with something. So of course I will be entering this competition.

Anyway I can help organize for it? Judging?

Thanks for the support Firefang. But i was thinking more of leaving it to a peoples vote to decide the winner. That way we maximise the amount who can enter (as there would be no need for judges who wouldn't be able to enter). Being a small forum means we need to make the most of all those who are active.

If i do decide to have judges then you'll be on the list Firefang no worries. But as it stands it will voting. And of course you may help organise it, hell everyone can, just post up your ideas here so i may see them and consider using them.

Sounds interesting, I might do a guy up for it. Are we limited to Warhammer Fantasy?

To safe Darkblade moaning at me again it is for Warhammer Fantasy and 40k . No LOTR though, this is just to keep it simple with the stats layout and rules. Also LOTR has enough characters.

In any case this is the kind of layout it should be in. But feel free to do what you want as this is just to make things alittle easier.

Name: (the name of your character)
Race: (the army they hail from be it Wood Elves, Empire, Vampire Counts etc)
Stats: (the movement, strength etc)
Special Rules: (remember to have army spercific rules included like Asrai shooting or speed of Asuryan etc)
Equipment: (the magical or not weapons, armor if any for your character)
Story: (a piece of writing to give depth and personality to your character)

If they are a wizard include what wizard level they are just below the stats. Also i may add that you can have a 'tagteam' if you wish (like twins Neastra and Arahan) but i will limit it to one entry per member.

The tempr=tation to just do Ecthelion is strong but I might go another route and go for the 40K character. The problem with that is that not only is it not wood elf related its not even WFB related lmao oh decisions

When is the deadline to have a character made up?

The deadline is 15/03/08. Thats so not to make it too long and so people either get bored or forget it. I'll edit the first post to make this more clear.

This is a good idea SDETT, nice thinking. Maybe if this is successful we could have more competitions like this in The Hall of Lost Lores.

I'm definitely going to put in an entry as well, but not right now as I'm going to play Ragnarok Online .
