I am back once more to plague the net with my armies. Seeing as it's my Tau army that I'm using in the VAC, I decided now may be an appropriate time to post the list. Fortunately you wont have to do too much work on this one. My Tau army is 'fixed' meaning I am not going to change it, I would merely like your opinions on it. Feel free to critisise, though, as I can handle it ... . Well here it is: O'Raatol Kauyon Kau'Ui.Shas'O Tash'Var Or'Es Raatol . . . . . . . . . . 124 pts. Yep, that about sums up my tactics. The FWs hang back and fire at anything that moves. The Kroot act as juicy targets moving in front of the FWs making it harder to shoot the FWs or assault them though I usually infiltrate the kroot along with the steathsuits whenever I can. The Shas'El and Hammerhead are my main vehicle killers, one up close, one distant. The Shas'El is also rather good against smallish units of troops like ripper swarms or Imperial Guard. My commander, his BGs and one of the Piranhas take one flank while the Crisis unit and the other Piranha take the opposite flank. Pretty standard Tau warfare . I think this is a pretty good list. It's rare to see Kroot in many lists now, but I don't think they're too bad- and they'll have a very useful purpose when the next edition comes out (objective capturing- rumours are only troops can do this).
Your list would probably struggle against tank heavy armies (battlecannon shots and multiple lascannons easily able to remove crisis suits) although the extra tau movement phase always helps. You also don't have much anti tank, so the threats will likely hang around for a while.
You may also have trouble with hordes- IG can field a huge number of heavy bolters and lascannons, and although you'll make a mess of many of them there's always so many more... Combat hordes may reach you through shear numbers- again, you'll make a huge dent, but you have so few models that it'll just take a few combat monsters to turn the tide (although I expect the Kroot to help). In my experience this is the usual way for Tau- either it's a massacre as all of my tyranids are pulped early, or a close-fought tyranid victory as the remnants roll up the line. It's never a tyranid massacre...

Aww bless Don't know if this will help but the list I played in the tourney I played a month back was made up of: 2 hammerheads 3 transports(devilfish?) carrying 2 units of firewarriors of 12 each and a unit of pathfinders unit of 3 stealth suits unit of 3 and 2 crisis suits and a suit commander. Tore my wolves apart. I was podding so the whole force was concentrated on a maximum of 2 units each shooting phase. The only unit able to weather the storm as it were for more than a turn was my termies becuse I gave themlike every save bonus I could lol.

Okay, based on your 'rant' , I've come up with several suggestions: No 1. Shas'O [SEPT] Ko'Vash Tau'Va Vash'Ya = Fire commander / which sept he's from / to strive for / the greater good / between spheres First off he has Ko'Vash Tau’Va to show he has done great work in furthering the Greater Good, but he also has Vash'Ya because he feels torn between what he feels would be best and his duty to the Ethereals. It could also represent his opinion of the kroot, how he dislikes them on one hand but must put up with them because they are good allies. No 2. Shas'O [SEPT] Lar'Shi Y’Eldi Mont’Yr = FC / sept / hero OR heroic / gifted pilot / seen battle Heroic because he isn’t afraid of going solo and is respected for trying to preserve life. Gifted pilot is obvious and ‘seen battle’ sort of says veteran to me.No 3. Shas'O [SEPT] Kais Shovah Tau’Va = FC / sept / skilful / farsighted / greater good Skillful and farsighted commander who always thinks of the greater good.Hope some of that helps.

| QUOTE (Silly Dragon Elf the Third @ Jun 17 2008, 03:33 PM) | Whats about the new rules that screw the Tau over and make the Marines all powerful? (they are GW trademark so of course they are very powerful). They haven't made rapid fire guns over heat or something more stupid? Or will close combat be something even more important than it is now (like slightly).
I have had a brief glimpse of the new book but only looked at the drop pod pic and other stuff like artwork. Didn't really think the rules would change much.

well how fast vehicles works is changed meaning we now cant gain glancing hits (well the new equivalent) in 5ed unless we don't fire our guns, defensive weapons is now 5> so missle pod/rail gun combo is out unless you sit very still, auto hits vs back armour unless you move more than 6" even on skimmers, huge amounts of cover saves for everyone, LOS / not being able to shoot through friends and apparently you can now shoot/assualt through skimmers without penalty so using devilfish as screen doesnt work...o and everyone can now use fleet of foot...
on the bright side you can't consolidate into combat so that means so sweeping through your entire army... and disruption pods give a 4+ chance (50%) of stopping you being hit apparently, but yeh generally hand to hand is even more powerful than before, all though to be fair tau were pretty powerful last edition.

Skimmers had glancing hits because of how fast they move not whether they fired guns or not. that is rubbish!

Defensive wapons were str 5 or less because they couldn't Instant kill most basic troops and min weapons were str 6 or more because most basic troops were toughness 3!
