Well the new year has started and with it a rejuvenation of the kindred cup. All kindreds have been reset so if your not in one tell an admin what you want. The competitions will be happening each month starting with the Vaul's Anvil Challenge which will continue all year in order to motivate players to paint their miniatures so be sure to pop on into Vauls anvil for that!

A few other changes will be made very soon so if anybody is having any problems with anything tell an admin and we will get it sorted.

Bah, he's been a blemish to Australia, generating stereo-types left right and centre. He's better off now, as far as I'm concerned.

He may have been an annoying stereotype (though this was kind of good for a laugh), but what he did for conservation was very important.
He also helped tourism but that's not so important to me. A lot of people would have no idea what Australia was if not for him.

I don't want to see any more posts like the above in this topic, whether you liked him personally or not is not the point, a man died today, a man who was loved by his family, and indeed by much of Australia and the world. Rather than being a 'blemish' to the Australian image, Steve Irwin did great things for Australian wildlife and conservation. Despite some of his questionable antics (the baby bob incident, etc), he did some exceptionable things.

Have some respect for the dead.

Well Spoony, that was one of the most disrespectful comments that Iv'e ever heard.
What do you think his wife and 8-year old daughter feels right now, while you describe him as "A blemish to Australia" ?

When I saw the news, I thought it was some sort of joke... now I still can't believe it, its like if somebody took away.. I don't know... sad.gif

It was partly thanks to him that I became more aware of the enviroment. Waking up to my radio announcing his death wasn't a particularly pleasant experience. sad.gif

I agree with the others... whatever you liked the man or not... He died... and you should pay your respect to the dead...

Around the world the man was loved, and part of many peoples hearts, both young and old... his entushame for protecting the wildlife, was beyound the expected of anyone... He might have made mistakes like the one with Baby Bob, but we all do... and for a man that has been in TV since 1992 there, he made few mistakes...

Right now i more than ever remember the times i have spent with my grandparents seeing "The Crocodile hunter" and his other TV shows... since i was like 5... he was like the entire reason i wanted to become a zookeeper... his passion for the animals... when i read it this morning at 8 (GMT +1) i felt it as if... something that had been part of my like as long as i can remember.... died...

That a fish would be the death of him, was clearly not what both i and many people had expected... compared to what animals he usually worked with...

But for now... my thoughts are with Terri(wife), Bindi(daugther), Bob(son) and Wes(best friend)...

And for others... if you have nothing nice to say about this man, wheter you liked him or not... dont even bother replying to this thread...

When I think about this, I see a paralell.

Irwin was killed by a Manta, NOT what you would have expected when you think about the animals he used to be around.
It was a rookie mistake, he swam to close to it.

In Norway, theres a 95-year old man called Arne Næss.
He is a philosopher widely regarded as one of Norways greatest persons trough all time, loved throughout the country.
His son died not too long ago, after falling from the mountain he was scaling.
He was a very experienced climber, but he's death was caused by a minor mistake, he didn't fasten the strops tight enough.

Minor oversights, fatal consequences.

Small things are often the death of great men...

Indeed it's a very sad day. I was doing my homework in the afternoon like every other day only to be told that, "you know Steve Irwin? Well he died today." It was quiet a shock and I totally didn't expect it. Australia has lost quite an icon.

He was well known and I had seen him on television before. All the best for his family, friends and relatives.

Apologie accepted. Judging by some of the replies on this topic Steve was a well known man indeed...I knew he was a famed here in Australia, I just didn't realise how far his influence had spread in the world.

Oh yeah, please don't declare a jihad on the stingrays tongue.gif I know that one killed Steve, but stingrays are actually very passive in nature. If you swim near them, they'll likely swim away from you. Steve must have been very close to the ray, as they only strike if they feel threatened; if you corner them or touch them for example.
