The only new units that can spring up are zombies, and honestly, they aren't anything to worry about, even if they are rear charging you. Maybe they could muck up your glade guard if their spell casters are close enough.

I'm not too concerned with zombies, the worst part of his army is his general with the ability that lets him raise ghouls beyond their units starting number. I find that he is able to raise just about as many ghouls as I just managed to kill with shooting. He usually has 10 or so power dice and he uses them to cast the raising spell with 1 dice at a time. His general is also +1 to cast so that means I usually need to dispel each one with 2 dice so I run out of dispel dice a lot faster than he runs out of power dice. I suppose if I can keep him replacing casualties it means that he's not spending all those power dice on offense spells but it is really frustrating seeing ghouls that I've killed come back.

This time might be a bit different though, apparantly he's only taking 2 characters with a total value of less than 550 points. He is experimenting with the rumoured changes coming in 8th edition which is putting points percentage limitations on army builds. This also means he'll also have at least 30% core. If this is the case then I might be able to keep up to him magically which would be a huge advantage for me. Hopefully it also means that I'll be able to get off a few spells of my own as well.

Had the game tonight and I won! I'm the league champion! It looked pretty grim to start out with, his ghouls got a free march at the start of the game so they closed with my archers pretty quickly. He had a load of magic as well, in his first magic phase I used all my dispel dice and 3 of my scrolls and he still managed to raise 8 ghouls. In my second turn I managed to take down his vampire battle standard bearer and in my third turn my alter kindred highborn pulled down his vampire lord which pretty much ended the game as his army started to crumble. by my turn 5 all he had left was his varghulf which was at half wounds and by the end of my turn 5 I had killed it by charging it on 3 sides with wild riders, wardancers and my treeman.
