Welcome Back to The Lost Glade!

Well the new year has started and with it a rejuvenation of the kindred cup. All kindreds have been reset so if your not in one tell an admin what you want. The competitions will be happening each month starting with the Vaul's Anvil Challenge which will continue all year in order to motivate players to paint their miniatures so be sure to pop on into Vauls anvil for that!

A few other changes will be made very soon so if anybody is having any problems with anything tell an admin and we will get it sorted.

I actually never use fighting characters. Think the points are better spent on more units. But I'm trying to better myself :D

So please help me by telling what your favourite character is and how you equip him/her. You would really ne helpfull and maybe you'll even see so combo's you didn't think of.

I'll start of with one I've come up with,

Wardancer Highborn, Blades of Loec, Amber Pendant, murder of spites. (don't know if the reroll to wound is also for the Murder, but it does some extra damage)

I'm a big fan of the Alter Highborn with great weapon, bow of loren, amber pendant(the opponent always strike last?) arcane bodkins.

I normally run wardancer nobles without any magical items (or else I give one the moonstone). Put him in a unit of 5 wardancers and you have a very compact but deadly weapon. On the charge you get 5 S5 attacks and 16 S4 attacks (if you do the +1 attack dance).

I also like the Alter Kindred Highborn with a great weapon, amber pendant, Bow of Loren and Arcane Bodkins. 5 shots with no armour saves hitting on 2's pretty much all the time, then when he gets into close combat he has 5 S6 attacks with all opponents striking last. I like to run him alongside my treeman for maximum killy-ness!

I also sometimes take a wild rider noble on a stag, but I have yet to find a combo that I like. I think I would probably give him the regeneration armour or the hail of doom arrow.

I agree this guy's great against some opponents, as long as you have the points. He's best used against not very tough but heavily armoured units though (eg. Brettonians)- I can't see him being worth his points against foot slogging orcs (although he can tip the balance in combat).

I also like the Noble variation- Alter (or elven steed) with Hail of Doom Arrow and Helm of the Hunt (and great weapon or spear and shield, depending on whether he's on foot or not).

I like fielding a noble wardancer with the blades of loec, simple and killy. I have gotten into the habit of fielding units of 10 wardancers with full command, just 201 points, since 5 or 7 die too fast if exposed to anything. That and at 2k, I generally don't field a lord or any magic at all, so my rare and special slots are taken up very quickly.

My favourite is the Alter Highborn with Light Armour, Shield, Helm Of The Hunt, Amber Pendant, Elynett's Brooch and a Murder Of Sprites.

This gives him/her 6 S4, WS 9 +D6 Poisoned attacks on the charge, a 3+ Armour Save, re-rolls on Pych tests and makes the enemy strike last. Quite nifty biggrin.gif

Has worked quite well in some battles.

But in my regular games he gets demoted to hero rank, losing the Brooch and Pendant.

Something I've though of but never tried out was:

Highborn ,Alter ,Additional hand wep, shield, light armour, murder o.sp., Helm of H., Merciw's Locus.

Works quite well at taking out whole units of archers and fast cav, and only costs 219 points, quite happilymakes his points back as long as he doesn't end up getting shot at. 35 points free to specialise him further, Bow of Loren is nice and you can upgrade him to be protected againstmissile weapons or have regen. Quite a flexible little bugger.

Noble version only takes Add hand wep, shield, LA, HotH and ML.

Another Highborn config. I like to use:

Alter, Dawnspear, Fimbulwinter Shard, Armour of Fey, Shield.

Very difficult to take out once bogged down in combat, holds even thebest of units down for a few turns.

Alter highborn, GW, naked except for Helm of the Hunt, Bow of Loren, Arcane Bodkins and Stone of Crystal Mere.

He's fast, fires off 30 AP shots, never misses, and in the 6th round charges with a bunch of attacks.

Here's a pic:

Let's see... Beastman body and arms, two high elf swords glued together, darkelf head with GS hair, heavily filed-down legs from a bretonnian knight, pieces of plasticard cut with scissors for the grass and cloak... think that's it...

Kinda weird combination, always thought the harp to be better suited in a really large unit Eternal guard. On a Spellweaver is an idea. Maybe also include a BSB noble with the Amber Pendant.

My general is a noble with shield, spear, light armour and an elven steed. He has the HODA and helm of the hunt.

He either joins my glade guard to make them a nasty flanking unit whilst dryads or dancers hit the front or goes off on his own after war machine crew, missile units and lone wizards.

With the potential to move 18" a turn i can usually guarantee to find a good target for the HODA and it's pretty rare he doesn't make his points back.
