Alby Herkus

.3 / .5 / 3 / 3/ 2/ 6/ 2 / 8 ./ 4+/
Points/Model: 175
An Imperial Guard army of any point value may include Alby Herkus. If you decide to take him then he counts as one of the army's HQ choices. He must be used exactly as described here and may not be given extra equipment of wargear.
Alby Herkus was once a brilliant young engineer of the Imperium, hailing from the now defunct Tanith. His aptitude in sciences and engineering was inspiring, and he held a lofty position researching some of the more eldritch technologies that came his way. Because of his speciality in the obscure, he was called upon one day when an archaeological team had found a gate of some description buried deep underground with some other rubble. Alby became obsessed with it, even foregoing sleep and food to spend more time learning about it. After he had spent weeks figuring it out, he concluded that it was an ancient Eldar Webway gate, forgotten about over the years. Brimming with excitement, he dropped all of his tools to go and get a team to help him try and activate it. Unfortunately, at that same time, alarms started going off all over the base of operations they had set up. Alby ran up to one of the many security staff to find out what was going on. The guard’s face turned deathly pale as he announced that a Chaos fleet that had fled from their recent victory at Balhaut had shown up, and was bombing the entire planet.
The two of them ran to the exit to try and get to the surface, but when they got to the elevator they saw a huge crowd of people screaming and crying, some even killing themselves. Obviously, this made him more distressed, and he tried to get some sense out of the people there. One of them told him that the attacks had knocked out the elevators, and there was no other way out. Alby started wracking his brain. The gate could provide an escape route, but he didn’t know where it would lead, if it still even worked. What he did know was the many, many dangers involved in travelling through the Webway. Deciding it was either stay on Tanith and die for certain, or have an infinitesimal chance of survival, he rounded up the remaining science teams and security staff, and headed back to the gate. After a few hours of tinkering, testing out different power sources, and a lot of stress, they managed to get it working. So began a life of fighting for everything and anything to survive. Many of them died in battle, some mutated from the powers in the Webway, and others yet, like Alby, lost all trace of sanity. Over time, he lost his grasp on the world, and couldn’t differentiate between reality and the apparitions he perceived. He developed schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and a myriad of other mental diseases. Now he travels the Eldar Craftworlds with his group of survivors, etching out an existence at any cost.
Wargear: Modified Shuriken Catapult (One handed, assualt 3 instead of 2), close combat weapon, frag and krak grenades.
Special Rules:
Independent character: Alby follows the Independent Character special rules in the Warhammer 40k rulebook.
Unfit: Due to his condition, Alby is inefficient at leading soldiers. Troops nearby may not use his leadership for any tests.
Mental Conditioning: After having spent long periods of time in the Webway, what remains of Alby's mind has developed a resistance to the forces there. Alby may re-roll any failed saves against psychic powers cast directly at him, and must accept the second result.
Unstable: At the beginning of every turn, the player must roll a die to determine whether or not Alby has a mental breakdown. Roll a 4+. If you fail, refer to the following table.
1 Alby falls down on the ground and starts weeping. He may do nothing for that turn.
2 Alby starts arguing with himself about what to do. The noise is very distracting. Any friendly troops within 12” suffer -1 to hit for the rest of the turn, while any enemy troops gain +1 to hit.
3 Alby starts laughing at something very, very funny. He may be used as normal this turn.
4 See 3.
5 Alby starts staring off into the distance, and decides to go for a walk. Roll a scatter die. He immediately moves in that direction. If he hits any terrain he stops. After this movement, he may not be used this turn.
6 Alby gets a far away look in his eyes, and decides to end it all. The model is removed from play.

Name: Ecthelion Surion
Race: Asrai
Stats:
/M /Ws/ Bs /S / T / W / I / A / Ld /
/5 /8 / .- / 4. / .3 / 4 / 8 / 5 / 10 /
Special Rules: Eternal guard fighting style, Forest walkers, Woodland ambushers, Unwavering loyalty.
Eternal guard fighting style, Forest walkers, Woodland ambushers as described in the Wood elf army book (don’t want a law suit)
Unwavering Loyalty: When Ecthelion joins a unit of Eternal guard the unit becomes Unbreakable instead of stubborn for their bodyguard rule so will never flee from combat or scary opponents through loyalty to their commander.
Equipment:
Winter’s Heart
Ecthelion wears magical armour of pure silver. It shines with the eerie light of winter and is constantly cold. When a foe sets eyes upon this magical armour it is overcome with visions of freezing death that causes fear and drains the will of those opposing the wearer.
Winters heart gives the wearer the fear ability but also makes all units in base contact with Ecthelion a -2 to Ld.
Winter’s Talon
This is a magical Saearath with its white shaft and silver blades lends Ecthelion strength but can be split in two to form two flaming long handled swords with a quick twist.
Ecthelion can chose to wield the Saearath normally and gain a +1 to his Strength or split it in two giving him +1 attack and flaming weapons.
Story:
Ecthelion was born in the south west of Athel Loren and despite his father being a Lords bowman he was never any good with a bow. After an accident which left his father dead at his hands Ecthelion was banished to the Wild wood, a punishment rarely heard of but accepted by Ecthelion. After many years of being hounded by vengeful spirits and dryads Ecthelion happened upon a cave. Seeking refuge in the cave Ecthelion soon found a chamber deep in the cave with the rotten skeleton of an old Elven lord. Not long after that he emerged from the cave wearing a wondrous set of armour and wielding two flaming long handled swords. His appearance changed that day and he seemed to become one with his new attire. After another couple of years Ecthelion left the wild wood, sure his new look would fool anybody as he headed north towards the Glade of Eternal moonlight hoping to join the Eternal guard there. As time moves in strange ways in Athel Loren Ecthelion was not all too surprised when he learned he’d been in the Wild wood for over two centuries! Not long after leaving the Wild wood Ecthelion was taken in by the Eternal kindred and learned how to fully utilise his new weapons. After only a few years Ecthelion became a renowned figure for the Eternal guard and soon became a champion for his lord. Soon after that he was given command of whole armies but all the while Ecthelion remained ignorant of the things happening around him. Many years after reaching the highest point of his career Ecthelion while on a walk came across a strange rune covered stone. Upon touching it He was transported to the Empire. When Ecthelion tried to return to Athel Loren one day he found himself unable to pass through the borders of the Waystones. Angered he set up camp outside, determined to still defend the lands even from outside. While sleeping one night he was gifted a vision of faraway lands and great battles. Knowing that his destiny was set ahead he set out into the outlying lands till he can return once again.
Pts: 245.Takes up 1 Lord Slot.

Varnu Heartleaf.
198 points.
Mt / WS / BS / S / T / W / I / A / Ld
.9 / .6. / .6. / 4 / 4 / .2. / 9 / 5 / 8
Basic Equipment:
Longbow, Shield and a Murder of Spites.
Magic Items:
Eclipsocas, Armour of the Sun:
This suit of Mythril Armour was forged by the Dwarfs of Karak Norn in the time when dwarfs and elves still shared an alliance. Made for an elven hero, in battle the ancient runes carved across its surface blaze white hot and few can escape being blinded by its light. Foes are hard pressed to even see the wearer let alone strike them.
The armour confers a 4+ Armour Save to its wearer. In addition models wishing to hit the wearer in close combat will only hit on a D6 roll of 6+.
The Sword of Du’Sarn:
Forged in the time when Bretonnia still allied itself with the elves of Athel Loren, this sword is a masterpiece. Blessed by both the Lady of the Lake and Queen Ariel herself, the spirit entombed in the sword will let nothing stand in the way of Athel Loren, Bretonnia and victory, cleaving through the thickest of armour.
Varnu gains +1 Attack. In addition, no armour saves can be taken against wounds inflicted by the Du’Sarn. Ward saves may be taken as normal.
Special Rules:
Member of the Laith-Kourn Kindred, Asrai Archery and Forest Walker.
Pariah:
Because of both his heritage and his desire to roam beyond Athel Loren, Varnu is frowned upon by other Elves and shunned by most humans though many wish to make use of his skills.
Varnu can never use the General’s Leadership and all units (both enemies and friends) other than Laith-Kourn or Waywatcher Characters and Waywatcher units within 6” of Varnu suffer -1 to their Leadership.
Immune to Psychology:
Varnu has traveled across most of the known world. Whether he seeks answers to nameless questions or merely craves adventure, no-one other than him truly knows. During his travels Varnu has witnessed and participated in many astounding events. Some have been wondrous but most were horrific.
Because of their frequency Varnu has long since become immune to such things and so suffers no effects due to Psychology.
Adventurous:
Varnu has traveled across most of the known world. Whether he seeks answers to nameless questions or merely craves adventure, no-one other than him truly knows. He has fought alongside many races and is known in many a foreign hall.
Varnu can be used in a Wood Elf army (with your opponent’s permission) as a Hero choice. He can also be used in the following armies but takes up a Rare choice as well.
- Bretonnia
- Dark Elves
- Dogs of War
- Dwarfs
- Empire
- High Elves
Varnu Heartleaf was born to the previous Lord of the Syn’tharsil Kinband, Eldagon Songbird. He is also the brother of the current leader, Treena Songbird, but their mothers’ were different. While Treena’s mother was the Elven Princess, Tinaith Songbird, Varnu’s mother was a lady from the country of Bretonnia. Eldagon met Varnu’s mother when his Kinband fought alongside a Bretonnian army against a marauding band of Beastmen. They had descended from the World’s Edge Mountains, ransacking their way through the Dukedom known as Quenelles and were heading for Athel Loren.
Though surprised by the assistance of the elves, the then Duke of Quenelles never the less was grateful. When the battle was won, the Duke would not have the elves leave without first commemorating their efforts. Eldagon would have refused but for the Duke’s Lady. She was touched by the Lady of the Lake and was blessed with beauty beyond that of other human females. He sent the rest of his Kinband back to the halls of Athel Loren but at the Lady’s request, though his disdain for humans raged within him, he remained behind and accepted the Duke’s celebration. He did, of course, leave as soon as he could.
He returned to his halls and his own lady, but for some reason he did not understand he could not forget the memory of the Bretonnian Lady’s face. Unbeknownst to him, she was a Damsel of the Lady and had laid upon him a web of magic. She had seen a time when an Elven Hybrid would save both their realms and Eldagon would be its father. When, a few years later, her Lord next rode to battle, leaving her virtually alone she activated her web which would inspire Eldagon to return. A week later he arrived. He slipped easily past the guards and the only person to see him arrive and leave was the Lady whom he had come to see.
A few days later, her magic allowed her to know she was pregnant long before the first visible signs would alert the Duke’s suspicion. When he returned a week later, she told him she had received a sign from the Lady of the Lake and so must return to the place were she became a Damsel. A year later she returned to her Duke, while in Athel Loren, Eldagon returned to his hall after leaving once more. But this time he was not alone. With him he brought an elven babe whom he nurtured along side his daughter who had been born the previous year. Unfortunately, Tinaith Songbird had passed away giving birth to Treena.
Half elf, half human, Varnu has been frowned upon by the whole of Athel Loren since he was a small child. Though physically he is more elf than human, his heritage is evident in his thicker build and greater toughness. He is as skilled with a bow and sword as any other Wood Elf but no one will acknowledge the fact. Even his own father has grown cold towards him, believing he shamed himself for allowing a human, and a female at that, to bewitch him.
Many speculate that this is what pushed him towards becoming a member of the Laith-Kourn. But even then he has taken his loneliness to greater extremes than both the Alter and Waywatcher Kindreds, leaving Athel Loren and traversing the lands beyond, even sailing to far off counties. The shock this caused within Athel Loren was great indeed but, though many of the Kindred leaders beseeched Queen Ariel and King Orion to permanently exile Varnu, neither would sanction their wishes. Nor would they explain why they would not.
He has traveled to the distant realms of Nippon were he discovered the Sword of Du’Sarn which had been lost for many centuries, even believed to be destroyed. He has crossed the great world pond and fought beside the Elves of Ulthuan against a Naggaroth raiding fleet before later joining the same fleet and sailing to Naggaroth to visit the dark kin. In the mines of Karak Norn he helped to stem a tide of Skaven from overrunning the dwarfs, who out of gratitude bestowed upon him Eclipsocas, Armour of the Sun. And many a Militia General has been grateful for his help though he is never truly accepted anywhere.
But for all his faults and adventurous nature, Varnu returns every few decades to the halls of his sister for he regards Athel Loren as his one true home, unable to find peace out side of its borders.
Vote away people. Please
BTW i was going to enter my character Altatar Averrod but thought better of it as it takes over 2 pages for fluff and rules.

Vote cast.
SDETT I think you should have entered.
Would have been fun to see what a crazy guy like you came up with (lol).
Zelt Arruin - March 27, 2008 10:17 PM (GMT)
Just as a note from me as a player, the first guy is worth about 25 points in 40k, the second guy is under-priced slightly, by 20-40 points, because he makes his unit unbreakable, but the last guy seems fairly balanced, again, just my opinion on points.
The Lone Warrior - March 28, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
The first option sounds like it would fair better as an INQUISITOR character, the second I think is rather cool and the third could have been better.
Silly Dragon Elf the Third - March 28, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
i have only two characters and they are my High Elf master wizard Altatar Averrod who has several profiles to indicate his progress in magic (the more stronger he becomes) until he even out does Teclis due to being Born with the Birthmark of Saphery (a cresent moon on his chin). Also has alot of fluff to do with fighting Malekith.
The second is a brettonian lord (no name yet) that fights for the people. He doesn't view peasants as lower class and in his army Knights Errants are actually Peasants trained to become knights. He rules a small piece of land just outside of Northern Athel Loren. His knights are called the knights of thorns and his people (peasants, though it is against the laws of his lands to call them peasants) are called the people of roses.
I have some smaller characters like Harguin Halheart a Swordmaster who joins the Asrai for a long period before returning to Ulthuan.
Though i may act crazy sometimes my characters are all serious. And i would've entered but i am having trouble toning down their powers so you will probably view them as over powerful.

What do you mean fluff? You want the stories behind each character? Its all there all of what they entered and all that i actually asked for.
If it that you want a fluff comp i'll look into it but i was thinking of something alittle more out of the box.

Is it still private, r can we actually see into the realms of Silly's mind?
Are ou thinking any f the following:
.Banner
.Signature
.Nicknames
.Fluff battle tournament...........(<I really, reall want this one!)
.Avatar conversions
.staff idol
Am I even close?
Silly Dragon Elf the Third - May 19, 2008 12:54 PM (GMT)
I was thinking of a 'funny moments' comp. Shall say no more.
But the mention of Nicknames sounds cool.
I have already done a fluff comp for a before battle speech. We could do that again while i get my one sorted.
Whats staff idol? We make totem poles of the staff?
I shall not be doing any sig or avatar comps as only those who can work computers well could really stand a chance. For instance i can't make a sig banner to save my life as i would not know where to start or anything.
Its strange how people only ever ask for comps which they are good at....
