Title: introduction fluff piece

Glim - January 21, 2007 02:24 AM (GMT)

When wandering another site I found myself looking for an introduction piece about that army, couldn't find it. Went to the Lost Glade expecting to see it somewhere,.. nothing....

So I was wondering, could the Lost Glade do with an introduction piece explaning the Woodelf story in big lines. Just to explain things a bit to the unknowing viewer?

Perhaps have something submitted by a user and chosen by the members? Do I smell a new contest i the works ?

hmmmm....

What you suggest sounds like a compitition brewing...I agree with highborn a user submitted introduction for new users would be cool.

What you got in mind lots of writing or like a few paragraphs shortly explaining the wood elfs? Maybe just a couple of lines?

I would certainly give it a try!

Well I was thinking of a clear pointing out the facts kind of Introduction. At least a few paragraphs long.

Really explaining the Woodelf way and fluff. Maybe Quoting pieces from the armybook. Just so people get an understanding about who we are.

A Competition with a long set entry date would be great.

It could work well as a competition. Where would you have it put though? We can put it on the homepage, but if we want it read we really need it on the forum.

The downside to a competition is that we can't compile ideas so much. Perhaps after the competition is over, we could discuss (or the admins could discuss) which bits of each worked really well and get something out of it that fits just right. The reason for this is that there are so many ways this could be taken, and I don't think any one entry will encompass them all.

If its to introduce people then why not put it in the introductions forum? Put it with the topic about the general rules or something? Why not have it on te introductions page itself? Like a header at the top.

Sounds good just keeping it short and to the point would be good as no one is going to read a whole page of well... fluff?

If the comp gets a go ahead i will certainly enter.

Is this like the caption contest?

That would be a great idea. Made me think myself. :p

Making a competition would be great. It makes for a bit more fun and people will be motivated to find a lot of fluff, including unknown stuff. But people writing the whole thing? Then get turned down in the end. I suggest a competition, in which you post passages up in the timeline. They would need to specify the source, and at what time it took place.

A Kindred earns extra points when someone would put it all down together?

Perhaps it's a good article for on the website. I know you have one. ;) (is it still alive though?)

Isn't that a bit too long though? I'm not exactly sure what Glim means the length and depth of it to be. I wouldn't mind contributing though.

Too long? I don't know - I'd the more the better, on the condition that the quality doesn't suffer from it.

Also, it would be more fair - there are more points to give out.

We could make it one that other people suggested, but then I would like to see points given out for 2nd, 3rd etc too. :)

Isn't the timeline in the book though? Also, what about 'where', 'who' and other miscellaneous articles which may not fit into the timeline?

Silly Dragon Elf the Third - February 8, 2007 09:16 AM (GMT)
Just a thought. But maybe with all the 'actual' history we could add in some of our own stories of own characters. Maybe fluff about our army lists? Or a character form an RPG whatever. If the mods really like it then they could put it in there too but with like a 'unofficial' tag on the side.

Just a thought.

Yeah that's a good idea. We could have relationships between different armies, linking them up to flesh out an other-wise flat Asrai historical timeline. For example, mine could know yours and hate SoI's, whilst Glim's could be Highborn Sycath's predecessor, who in turn knows yours and is related to SoI's. Just a convoluted example.

Quercia dei Eternita - February 8, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
Or perhaps the best created 'special' character who lines up in the current fluff, but also has respected stats for in-game play?

Servant of Isha - February 8, 2007 03:45 PM (GMT)
Incidentaly, the spellsingers next competition is special character creation (once our judges have sent their results in, hint), so don't be too hasty along those lines! Things are already in the works. But I like the idea of linking our armies' backgrounds together. Whether it will help the fluff intro or not is yet to be seen, but it's an intrigueing idea either way.
