Wherever Miles Away

On

Thin, white curtains billowed inward as cold air sough quiet refuge inside the dark motel room. Draw out shadows danced miserably in the light cast from a tiny, glowing lamp that flickered on, off, on, off in perfect timing with the changing mood of Dean’s thoughts. Laying on his back, arm outstretched to the lamp’s power button, Dean’s eyes fixed themselves carefully on the ceiling, but his breaking heart was miles away with his baby brother.

Wherever miles away really was.

Off.

Sam had escaped two weeks ago. Dean had trembled and watched his lanky brother storm out, screaming curses at their father, who just stared and watched him leave. The tension from that night had since leaked into silence, and Dean wondered if Sam knew that it was okay form him to come home now.

On.

John’s messy notes and Dean’s half eaten burgers decorated the room, sitting, forgotten, atop dressers, or hiding quietly in open drawers. Room Service had tried to lay claim to them, but Dean had refused them entry to the room. They would have mopped up the dirt from Sam’s boots on the peeling linoleum in the kitchen; neatened the pile of drawn-in, second-hand textbooks beside his unmade bed. They would have taken the very last traces of Sam that still lingered in Dean’s world.

Off.

Pathetically, Dean shuddered and curled into himself.

That's a really sad one tissue.gif

Sound's like Sam went to Stanford (but I'm not sure because of the textbooks he left behind)...

Aw thank you smile.gif Yeah, Stanford was implied but I forgot to put the authors notes in, lol. I think they were textbooks, he didn't need, OR didn't have room to pack when he ran so he just cut his losses. Thanks for your comment smile.gif

Hi,

considered that Sam had to carry all his belongings to the bus station, it is indeed very likely that he left al the things he considered as "not essential" to his studies behind...

What I got from the things mentioned, his leaving wasn't a well planned thing but a very spontanious action (it followed a big fight with John), so he wouldn't have his duffel packed at that time.

Again, very sad but great!

Thanks, Akinom!

I'm with you on the theory of Sam's leaving, though I'm still undecided on whether it was a spontaneous thing or whether he had planned it, but waited for a fight with John so it would look to Dean and John like he'd just stormed out after a fight (which I assume he did a lot!) and they wouldn't necessarily come looking for him until he had had enough time to catch the bus and be gone.

Thank you for your comment biggrin.gif

Hi!

You think that Sam could/would be that sneaky?
I always thought that he was really hurt to loose the backup from his family (he didn't like the hunting but he clearly loved/loves his family) when going to Stanford.
Otherwise it could be that the fight just went to far this time (further than Sam expected...)

Hmm, a tricky question... sherlock.gif

I'm really not sure, it's such a tricky question! I guess, anger does some funny things to people changing their character-wise, and you're right, he clearly loved his family, but I don't know how he felt that anger toward his life, if that makes sense? Like, was it enough to completely take over after a really bad fight and make him just run away, thinking it was for the best? Obviously, he would regret it instantly and Dean would find out sooner or later where he'd gone. It's definitely tricky, like you said!

That's why I like this show, and writing for this show; there are literally millions of possibilities, questions, and emotions behind it.
