Criminal Minds is a variant on Wolf that will be played with 14 players (11 Pro-Towns and 3 Anti-Towns). The objective of the game is simple: play to win. The Pro-Town roles win once both all of the Reapers have been arrested. The Anti-Town roles win once the number of remaining Pro-Town players equals the original number of Reapers.
Below is a quote of the basic rules. I've made some changes so please read them. Some things have been taken out and the alterations are noted in Italics.
| QUOTE (grkgrl88) | These rules are modified from the Mafia forum rules in the xkcd forums.
1. You may not post about Wolf games in other forums. You may PM players in your game during all Phases, but you may not discuss the game in other threads, via IM or e-mail.
Please keep in mind that Wolf should be played in the game thread, so please do not focus a lot of your time and attention to playing in PMs. If the game mod notices that thread activity is down because players are playing in PMs, he/she may take away PM use in the game. You may contact the game mod via PM at any time.
You may not discuss the game with non-players.
2. Please stay on topic.
3. You MAY NOT edit any of your posts in the game thread. Post editing has been disabled for players in the Wolf forum, so if you make a mistake, even just a typo you want to fix, you MUST post again to correct yourself. Simply post again and include EBWOP (Edit By Way Of Post) at the beginning. This prevents players from changing information in existing posts (aka cheating). For this reason, you MAY make consecutive posts in game threads.
4. Do not lurk through the whole game. When you sign up for a game, you're expected to play. If you'll be absent for a few days or need to drop out, tell the game mod. The game mod will post in the game thread to excuse your absence. If you do not notify the game mod of your absence or if you're gone long enough (excused or not), the game mod may choose to eliminate you.
5. Players MAY NOT post in the thread during the night phase. The thread will be locked. However, as stated previously, you may continue the game via PMs.
6. You MAY NOT directly quote any game-related PMs, especially from the game mod. This is also considered cheating and will first result in a warning, then result in a second warning, and finally result in elimination from the game. This is not to say that you cannot try to convince other players of your role. However, directly quoting PMs three times to prove it or accomplish another goal is considered suicide. And players, if this occurs during a PM, then you are expected to tell me. Otherwise, you're just as guilty as they are and will be held to the same penalty if I find out.
7. If you are eliminated from the game, please do not post anything in the game thread or discuss the game with anyone. You will receive a PM from the game mod notifying you of your elimination. The game mod will PM all the players after the game is finished at which point you may rejoin the game discussion.
8. What happens in Wolf, stays in Wolf. You may deceive each other, and you can out right lie about whatever you want in the game thread or in game-related PMs. That's part of playing. Please don't take it personally. It should all be in fun.
9. Please DO NOT post in the game threads if you are not playing. I've set up a thread for off-topic discussion for eliminated players and non-players. Any posts in game threads from non-players/eliminated players, though, will be deleted by the game mod.
10. All other forum rules apply in this forum.
Player Activity
Any member of the Supernatural.tv forums may participate in up to two Wolf games at any given time. Game mods may play in one game and run one game at the same time.
After sign ups close for a specific game, everyone on the sign up list will receive a confirmation PM from the game mod. Players must respond to the confirmation PM if they still wish to play. If players do not confirm that they are playing, the game mod will not assign them a role and they will not participate in that game. You have 48 hours after I send you the PM to respond.
Players are expected to actively post in the game thread. If you are absent from the forums for 3 (real-time) days, the game mod may send you a PM to remind you to play. If you miss voting for 2 consecutive day phases, you will receive a PM from the game mod to remind you to play and vote. If you do not vote for 3 consecutive day phases, you will be eliminated from the game by the game mod. This will not always happen. It depends on your situation mainly... whether or not you contact me beforehand, what your explanation is when I PM you, etc. etc.
If a player drops out of a game or is eliminated due to inactivity, the game mod may choose to replace that player in the game. This one probably won't happen simply because the Pro-Town roles out number the Anti-Town roles 5:1 and if I do it for the Anti-Town roles, it's a bit of a giveaway for that player.
To Vote: You must bold your votes so that the game mod can easily see them. If you don't and the game mod misses it, it's not his/her fault. Votes should be on a separate line such as:
Vote: Stokes
If you want to change a vote, do it like this:
Unvote: Stokes Vote: Syriani
**Please use the person's screen name (or an obvious abbreviation of it) so that it's clear who you are voting for.
Any other communication to the game mod in the thread should be bolded and on a separate line so that the mod can see it. (You may also PM the game mod at any time.) The game mod will post vote updates throughout the game so players do not have to keep track of votes themselves.
Right before the game begins, players will receive a PM from the game mod that explains their individual role. Going into Day 1, each player knows his/her own role but no one else's. George Foyet and the other three Reapers will find out who each other are at the beginning of Night Phase 1.
Game mods may set deadlines for day and/or night phases to keep the game moving. The deadlines for Criminal Minds will be one hundred twenty hours (5 real-time days) for Day Phases and twenty-four hours (1 real-time day) for Night Phases.
If a majority vote is not reached by the deadline:
During any Day Phase, if a majority is not reached, the game mod will randomly kill a player. It's in all players' best interests to actively post and reach a majority vote.
The Night Phase is when players who have special roles and the Reapers send PMs to the game mod to tell him/her what they decide to do. Players may not post in the game thread. The game mod may post reminders in the thread for players to send in night actions, though. The game mod will send a PM confirming that the night action was received and/or including any results of the night action.
That's it. Play continues until a side wins. Wolf is a game with team wins--not individual wins. Even if you were eliminated from the game, if your team wins in the end, you're a winner.
Again, if you need to drop out of a game, it's not a big deal, but PLEASE notify the game mod. It's better for everyone to have an active game, so instead of not participating, just tell the game mod you can't continue playing. If you need to drop out very early in the game, you may be replaced. If a replacement isn't possible, then you'll just be eliminated.
You may contact the game mod via PM at any point during the game with questions, suggestions...whatever. |
Below is the basic game set up:
Back Story:
The Behavioral Analysis Unit has received information pertaining to the whereabouts of the Boston Reaper, George Foyet. The team travels to Baltimore, Maryland in search of him. However, there’s a problem: it appears that he’s gathered two subservient personalities, or accomplices, to aid him in his killings. It was bad enough when there was one Reaper; can the B.A.U. track and stop three?
Alternative Rules Utilized:
There is one rule of Wolf this time around that I am slightly manipulating. As I'm sure you all are aware, the F.B.I. cannot just go around from town to town and murder possible suspects. Therefore, instead of killing people during the Day Phase, they shall be arrested. Another reason for this will be explained later. However, the Reapers will actually kill during the Night Phase. And it is for this reason, that actual roles will not be revealed until the end of the game for any player.
Basic Roles:
The game consists of essentially two sides: the Baltimoreans and the Reapers. The Baltimoreans win the game once all the Reapers have been arrested. The Reapers win the game once the number of Baltimoreans reaches the original number of Reapers.
Pro-Town Power Roles:
Senior SSA David Rossi, the Shield-- can protect one player during each Night Phase; unlike previous games, the protection does not carry over to the following Day Phase.
SSA Emily Prentiss, the Interrogator-- can ask two questions to any arrested player during each Night Phase; questions must be sent to the Game Mod to avoid cheating (i.e. sending questions to more than one player), but the answers will come from the actual player.
SSA Derek Morgan, the Muscle-- can arrest one player during each Night Phase.
SSA Dr. Spencer Reid, the Psychologist-- can determine the alignment of one player during each Night Phase.
SSA Jennifer "J.J." Jareau, the Media Liaison-- during the Day Phase (no, that is not a typo), J.J. can call a press conference to relay the profile the B.A.U. has created about one of the Reapers in order to instigate that Reaper into making a mistake; whether or not the Reaper makes a mistake will be random and one player will die as a result of the press conference; can only call two press conferences (at any point in the Day Phase however) throughout the entire game so make them count; the information will not be relayed by the actual J.J. but by the Game Mod; afterwards, the Day Phase automatically ends.
Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia, the Analyst-- can study information left behind after each Night Phase killing and possibly learn something from the evidence; information will be divulged by the Game Mod to Garcia and will be completely random (this information will not consist of the player's actual identity, but simple clues that if interpreted right could lead to the killer.)
SSA Aaron "Hotch" Hotchner, the Unit Chief-- can determine one player's specific role in the game during each Night Phase, but only if that player is a member of the B.A.U.; if not, the response shall be "N/A".
Anti-Town Power Roles:
George Foyet, the Boston Reaper-- if he is arrested during any Day Phase, he can instigate a jail break by killing one of his fellow Reapers (this Reaper must also be arrested at the time); all players currently arrested are free from jail and re-enter the game as a result (the players who have been killed off are not resurrected however); he can do this up to two times, once for each other Reaper (due to this, getting all the Reapers jailed does not end the game as Foyet still is allowed to instigate a jailbreak as long as all the living Reapers haven't been jailed for more than 24 hours real-time).

This post is to answer any questions people ask in the thread or send in a PM. Once I receive them, your post asking will be removed and the question and its answer will be edited into this post. This is in order to remove the hassle of having to dig through the thread if you have any questions and in case multiple people have the same question.
~~~~~
Q: What happens if we get arrested? Are we suspended from game play at that point? Is George staging a jailbreak the only way to re-enter play?
A: Yes to both. If you are arrested rather than killed, you are only suspended from gameplay. And Foyet instigating a jailbreak is the only way to re-enter gameplay.
~~~~~
Q: What happens if we don't reach a majority? Do you randomly lock someone up for us or does nobody go to jail?
A: Nobody goes to jail. For an arrest, a majority must be reached. This is in every Day Phase.
~~~~~
Q: I know you said players are suspended from gameplay when they're arrested. So they stop posting in the game thread, but does it mean they're also suspended from playing in PMs?
A: Yes, it does. Arrested players are suspended from all aspects of gameplay until Foyet instigates a jailbreak, successfully allowing them to re-enter the game.
~~~~~
Q: If a player is in jail, does that mean they are safe?
A: It does under one condition: a Reaper is not arrested as well. Roles of each player will not be revealed until the end of the game, but if somebody dies while in jail, that does mean that at least one other jailed player is a Reaper.
~~~~~
Q: Can I protect somebody who has been arrested (the ability to protect only applies to SSA Rossi)?
A: Yes, you can protect somebody in jail. If a Reaper/Foyet has been arrested, then they can kill somebody in jail. Therefore, it's only fair if I allow you to protect somebody who has been arrested.
Thank you.  I'm looking forward to participating in, rather than running, the game. It promises to be fun. Yes, Lily, I'm excited.
