Well I haven't seen 4x22 or most of season 4 for that matter, but my vote would go to 1x22.
When I got the S1 dvds, I flew through them in a matter of days and then got to that episode and was like holy s***! when the truck smashed into the Impala. Course the confrontation with YED in John was also great.
Didn't get the S2/3 dvds until about two weeks later, and it was a pain having to wait that long so I cheated and read spoilers to find out what happened in 2x01.
I think the ones for season 2 and 3 are great as well. They are emotionally deeper than 1x22, imo, but I was already spoiled and knew that YED would be killed and that Sam would die and that Dean would make his deal and then ultimately go to Hell at the end of S3. And since I had seen the first episode of S4 before I saw 3x16, I knew how Dean was saved.
So the wtf intensity and anticipation just wasn't there for me when I saw 2x21/22 and 3x16 because I already knew what to expect/the outcome...which I suppose is a curse of catching up with a tv show on dvd and not being able to resist/avoid spoilers.

Definitely 1 x 22. I was completley spoiler free because i didn't know places like these forums existed, i just waited to watch the show week after week and then i discovered the sn.tv site and found myself here so i was all ready and geared up for the beginning of season 2.

For me it was 2.21 (I know, not technically a finale) and 2.22! I consider both episodes as one, if you know what I mean! Even now after watching them so many times I still get tense and emotional! I remember thinking at the time that that was some of the best television I had seen in a very long time...and I stand by that!
The one after that would be 1.22! The crash at the end ... enough said!!

I would say 'All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1' and AHBL pt 2 (as one long ep) lol They were very intense, I saw a certain spoilery pic of Jared on set and that just made me amped for the episode. It was absolutely insane though what the ep did to me (part 1), i couldn't eat, i couldn't sleep, i couldn't concentrate in school on the friday !! it was so ridiculous, the wait between the two just seemed like the longest week ever !! However i'd say part 2 wrapped up that the story nicely even though Dean had one year to live and a crazy bunch of evil was let out of hell no one was left dying or dead so, it was quite chill "We got work to do" AHBL pt 1 was probably my favorite Sam and Dean death scene too. Dean getting to Sam just a little too late and the look on their faces when they saw eachother....then BAM ! Sam's on the floor and Dean's there with him. Jensen was seriously amazing in both eps, so was Jared but i think it was a bit of a crazy trip for Dean, telling Sammy he was gonna take care of him "i gotcha" just instant tears lol However hmmm i'm very indecisivel ! I loved 'Devil's trap', i mean they were all left for Dead over the summer lol and JDM was awesome ! even when posessed by YED. There are some really great moments from that ep too. Oh and one of my fav season openers followed i looooooove 'In My Time Of Dying' Oh and even though 'Devils trap' was left open ended, it made the season feel very well rounded. I've watched from when the pilot originally aired in 2005 and the two episodes really felt like bookends to an awesome season. It was also the first experience of a Spn finale which was all too cool Oh but 'No Rest for the Wicked' was Amazing too, Dean being ripped apart and Sam having to watch I really couldn't wait for the season premiere to see how the hell Dean got out of....well.....hell I really really loved 'Lucifer Rising' too ! the only reason i'd say for not being my top one is because the bro's weren't together during the episode after the fights before, but it was an awesome ep and i couldn't wait till season 5 ! I realise i just said every season finale hmm but its hard to choose one. I'd probably say AHBL pt1 and Pt 2 just because they were so overly heartbreaking but i do love em all !! however I'd say that season 3 and 4 finales were the most intense though it seemed non stop the whole ep

For me, the most intense finale was definitely season 1 (Devil's Trap). I didn't expect it to end like that, and I remember when the lorry plunges into them, I started to look for the other disc thinking that can't be the ending and there must be a continuation (I borrowed season 1 from a friend at work and she's the one who got me hooked). I was like "Noooooooo!" Season 2 was also adrenaline rushing cos I was thinking "Oh God, the demon ain't gonna escape them again is he?" When Dean pulled the trigger and they show the bullet travel slowly, I was thinking "Don't dodge or duck!" Once the bullet hit Azazel, I thought "Game Over!" It was a good ending but it didn't make go "Oh s***!" like season 1 did. Season 3 & 4 didn't really surprise me cos as much as deep down we all wanted Dean to survive the Hell Hounds, I knew he wouldn't defy the odds. I knew he'd be back but just didn't know how. Season 4 also didn't surprise me cos the story's gotta continue and the boys have gotta have a bigger mission ahead of them. If they prevented Lucifer from rising, there's no cliffhanger, but I did love the way it ended with the bright light. Season 1 takes the top spot for me

For me, Season 3. I was suprised by Season 1, but I knew Dean would be okay (much more worried about the Impala then, lol). All through Season 3, I was sure they would find a way to break the deal, then they went head and sent Dean to Hell!!! I mean, a whole brigade was started by that one
