This is the first draft for my most recent English assignment, in which we have to cpmplete various short stories consisting of 500 + words. Please let me know what you think, I have been "exploring" a few different styles with my writing, and this is an original adaption from a piece I completed some weeks ago. Again, all characters are in fact mine, as is the somewhat almost plotless plotline smile.gif Being a fanfic author, it's been a while since I've been able to say that :-)

Title: (Working Title) "Too Little, Too Late"
Author: Katie : Horse65@hotmail.com
Rating: G
Summary: - absent at the moment, coming soon -
Authors notes: Apart from the notes I spoke of above, I'm honestly not sure whether it's portraying the same sort of "plot" that it is my head to you guys, so let me know which parts are no good/confuse you. PLEASE do not use my work as your own, repost, or take the plots... I know you won't-- you're good kids. I had to use the prompt "rescue", and the phrases/words "forgotten", "disaster struck/striking", and "too little, too late".

Too Little, Too Late

Jett Kadeston is a backstabbing screw up.

Jett Kadeston is a young man with the blackest hair and most honest eyes you’ve ever seen which blatantly deceive the bitter hearted jerk he really is and a face which portrays soft features, framed by his infamous devious, challenging grin. He is what they would call an “old soul”; the kind who has been there, done all of that before, and strides through his days like nothing that goes on around him really matters anymore, which really, you think, is how it should be.

Jett Kadeston had very little left to stand for; his mother was murdered his mother passed away “peacefully” on the eve of his fifteenth birthday, and his father was a good-for-nothing drunken scum of the earth who treated his family like animals hasn’t been around for much of his life. He (unwillingly) supports a younger sibling, Blade (now fourteen), who attends the public high school (when he feels like it), and will weave his way in and out of juvenile hall in the upcoming years, you’re sure of it and is, you think, the sole reason that Jett is still here, and you try to convince yourself that you’re glad of that.

He has always said that you “see life through rose coloured glasses”, with a slight smirk and a mixed look of disappointment and apprehension on his face, and honestly, you’re beginning to believe him. He already knows the world isn’t anywhere near as nice as you believe it to be… and perhaps that’s the part that breaks your heart the most.

You’ve vaguely met his brother once or twice; you’re not all that close to Blade, but you know from what Jett has said (and complained about) that he’s really just a good kid in a bad world, despite what “society” likes to think of him. Screw society, Jett reckons, they can think whatever it is that they want to think, and it isn’t going to bother him in the slightest.

He and Blade, they’re part of this invisible force in the world, the forgotten kids who just seem to fly under the radar; not caring about anybody else, and not being cared about by anybody else. It’s like a song of desperation and sadness, despair and invisibility that you know the lyrics of too well; like looking through the window or watching the scene in your favourite movie just before you know that disaster is going to strike, and there is nothing you can do or say to prevent it (except there is).

Except now, you think, he gets everything he deserves, and it’s only Blade that needs the salvation; the rescuing (and you’re wrong, so very wrong).

And really, you just wish with everything that you have that you could uncross those crossed out lines and erase them from your lives like they weren’t true, like you didn’t really think that way.

Because Jett Kadeston is just a kid who should never have been forgotten, but was; a child who grew up too soon, and grew too old for his years. Because for Jett Kadeston, it was always too little, too late.

Fin.
