INT. HARRIS HOME- KITCHEN TABLE
A group of six elders sit around a kitchen table. Three married couples. Two of them are old, GEORGE and MARTHA HARRIS, sitting at the ends of the table. To their side sit MARVIN and his wife SANDRA, along with JACOB and KELLY. George raises his glass.
GEORGE
To another day of life.

The fellow neighbors raise their glasses.
NEIGHBORS
To life.
George looks across to his wife and smiles.
GEORGE
We should be thankful for the time we have. For the time we all have.
MARVIN
Should we tell our new neighbors?
GEORGE
Not yet. Have patience in time I’m sure they will know- like the rest of us.
MARVIN
But, what happened to the last couple who moved in- Mark and Stacy. I don’t know want to repeat the same mistake.
GEORGE
And neither do I. But, we don’t know if they can be trusted with such a secret.
Marvin nods.
GEORGE
In a couple of days, if I feel that they are ready I will tell them everything. If not, then their fate is in God’s hands.
Marvin looks at George, disturbed.
GEORGE
But, enough talk about this. Let’s get back to our dinner and utter not one word more. Give it some time Marvin, they just moved in.
Marvin nods as he takes a sip from his glass, hands trembling.
INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM
Dean leans back against the wall, green polo shirt tossed onto the ground. Kate paces back and forth holding onto a file. Dean sighs, waiting for her to finish.
DEAN
(mockingly)
Wife, get me my dinner!
Kate shoots Dean a look. Dean laughs.

DEAN
What’d I say?
(beat)
So, mind telling me what’s on your mind?
KATE
Just going through all the notes.
DEAN
What’s there to go over? Whatever is killing these couples comes at night, leaves no traces or evidence once so ever. And none of the neighbors have cause to be at least suspicious, which for this place is- off. I mean, our neighbors are a bunch of hippie “let’s be together forever” whack jobs.
Kate laughs.
KATE
Nice, Dean. Real nice.
DEAN
Come on, you know it’s true.
(beat)
Tell you what, why don’t you take a break and…
Dean moves towards Kate, flirtatiously.
DEAN
Spend time with me, huh?
KATE
Can’t.
DEAN
All work no play makes Kate a dull gal? Alright, your loss. I’m going to go check on Sam.
Kate nods okay. Dean goes upstairs.
INT. LANE HOME- UPSTAIRS GUEST ROOM
Sam is still staring, lost, against the wall. Dean enters and turns on the light.
DEAN
There you are.
Sam doesn’t answer him.
DEAN
Earth to Sammy, snap out of it man.
Sam looks towards Dean.
SAM
Huh? What is it?
DEAN
Nothing. Just you were staring at the wall as though you were trying to burn a hole through it.
SAM
I’m…
DEAN
Dazed and confused? Yeah, seems like it.
SAM
I’m okay. Really.
Dean looks at Sam, concerned and nods his head okay.
DEAN
Well, if you need me- I’ll be in the room next door.
Sam nods. Dean looks back at Sam, but decides not to push it any further. He leaves the room. Sam sighs.
INT. LANE HOME- BEDROOM
Dean enters the room, closes the door behind him. He closes his eyes. Remembering. He sits down, devastated and tries to push the thoughts out of his mind: Sam dying and his countless suicide attempts. Sam was back now… everything was going to go back to normal. Right? Dean screams in anger as he PUNCHES the wall with his left fist.
INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM
Kate looks up from her notes. Hearing Dean’s agony. She sits down and continues to scan through the notes knowing that Dean needed some time to be alone.
INT. LANE HOME- GUEST BEDROOM
Sam continues to stare against the wall… lost in the fading past…
INT. STANFORD UNIVERSITY- CLASSROOM- FLASHBACK
Sam sits in the classroom. Listening and taking notes, paying close attention to everything that the teacher says. The PROFESSOR folds up his book.
PROFESSOR
Well, that about wraps it up. I wish each and every one of you the best of luck on the upcoming LSAT exam. Just study hard. I’m sure you’ll do fine.
Sam smiles as he stands up to leave the class.
PROFESSOR
Sam, may I see you for a second?
Sam nods and walks down the steps of the classroom and he approaches his professor.
SAM
Sir?
PROFESSOR
You’re an excellent student, motivated, hard working.
SAM
Thank you.
PROFESSOR
Just make sure you put as much time and effort into this upcoming exam as you put into this semester. And I can guarantee you that you will likely be accepted into any law school of your choice.
Sam nods.
PROFESSOR
Well, that will be all, good luck.
SAM
Thank you sir.
Sam leaves the classroom.
EXT. STANFORD UNIVERSITY
Sam walks out of the PRE-LAW building. TJ approaches him from behind.
TJ
Sam, my man!
SAM
TJ, hey.
TJ
Throwing a party at my place. You’ll be there?

SAM
I don’t know.
TJ
Come on, it’ll be great.
SAM
Yeah, um… I don’t think I’ll be able to make it.
TJ
And why not?
SAM
Because, I’ve got the LSAT coming up soon, I have to start studying.
TJ
You have heard that college is supposed to be the time of your life right? Out partying, not in studying.
Sam laughs.
SAM
I’m sorry. I can’t. I really have to study.
TJ nods okay.
TJ
You’re loss man. Going to be missing out.
SAM
(sarcastic)
I’m sure.
TJ looks at Sam, noticing that something is definitely up.
TJ
What is it?
SAM
What’s what?
TJ
This, all of this, come on man- I know when your minds at work…
SAM
I’ve been thinking.
TJ
Go on.
SAM
About Jessica. It’s time. It’s time I finally asked her.
TJ
Asked her? Hold on, hold on a minute now. Dude, you seriously can’t be talking about the “big” question?!
Sam laughs and nods his head.
SAM
Yeah, I am actually.
TJ
I don’t know, that’s a pretty large step. Are you sure that…
SAM
I’m sure.
TJ
You want to cut off all bachelorhood? Be my guest.
(beat)
Wait, I am going to be your best man right?
Sam considers the options.... Dean, he immediately dispels the notion and nods okay.
SAM
You’re on the top of the list.
TJ
So, when are you going to pop the question?
Close up on Sam, seeing his mind hard at work… thinking…
SAM
I don’t know. I’ll think of something.
FADE TO:
INT. SAM AND JESSICA’S DORM- NIGHT- FLASHBACK
Sam is fast asleep. We notice sweat beginning to pour down his face.
INT. SAM AND JESSICA’S DORM- DREAM- FLASHBACK
CLOSE UP on Jessica. Face frozen in terror. Pan back to reveal that she is pinned to the ceiling!!! Flames start to spread across the ceiling. She screams in terror.
JESSICA
Why Sam?
INT. SAM AND JESSICA’S DORM- NIGHT- FLASHBACK
Sam’s eyes SNAP open. He sits up in bed. Breathing heavily. He wipes away the sweat.
JESSICA (V.O.)
Why Sam?
Sam looks over to see Jessica sleeping. He takes a deep breath and lies back down, unable to go to sleep.
INT. LANE HOME- UPSTAIRS GUEST BEDROOM
Sam leans against the wall.
JESSICA (V.O.)
Why Sam?
Sam growls in frustration.
EXT. PLEASANT HILLS PARK- NIGHT
ANGLE DOWN on Pleasant Hills, the wind blows against the trees through the night sky. ANGLE UP TOWARDS the full moon above transforming into a rising sun. Angle back down to see Dean taking out the garbage.
EXT. LANE HOME
Dean looks around, seeing if anybody was watching him. Marvin approaches him.
MARVIN
Hi yah neighbor.
Dean turns to face him.
DEAN
Hey.
MARVIN
Good first night at the new home I hope.
DEAN
Yeah, we had a good night.
MARVIN
I forgot to give this to you yesterday.
Marvin takes out a rulebook for the neighborhood.
DEAN
What is this?
MARVIN
Just a couple of guidelines, now that you’re going to be living here…
DEAN
Guidelines?
Marvin nods.
MARVIN
More like rules.
Dean flips through it.
DEAN
No basketball hoop?
MARVIN
Yeah. You know, we have to keep up the appearance of the block.
Dean continues to flip through it.

DEAN
Repaint the mail box Desert Sienna?
Marvin nods.
MARVIN
You’ll get adjusted to the way things work around here. Soon enough. It’s just a small price we all pay to live.
DEAN
I see…
MARVIN
Just follow the laws in that book and we shouldn’t have a problem.
DEAN
Problem?
Marvin nods, troubled.
MARVIN
Well, have a nice day.
DEAN
Yeah, you too.
Dean looks down at the book. It’s hardbound, similar to a bible and has an ancient crest on the cover. Dean grins, getting an idea.
DEAN
Son of a bitch!
Dean reenters the house holding tightly onto the book.
INT. LANE HOME- FAMILY ROOM
Kate is busy, trying to come up with several possibilities. Sam is making lunch. They hear the door creak open and turn their attention towards Dean.
SAM
What is it?
Dean holds up the rulebook.
DEAN
The gospel according to Pleasant Hills Park.
Kate takes the book and begins to skim through it.
DEAN
Marvin came over to give it to me when I took out the garbage. Said that as long as we follows the rules- in that book, we shouldn’t have a problem.
KATE
You think…?
DEAN
I don’t know. But, right now it’s the best lead we’ve got.
Kate hands the book to Sam. Sam looks it over.
SAM
So, what do we do now?
DEAN
We rile up the neighbors.
REACTION shots of Sam and Kate acknowledging and accepting Dean’s plan, Dean grins.

CLOSE UP on the Pleasant Hills Rulebook and the ancient crest.
