Weakest episode but had memorable scenes

I saw this topic on sv_ledger and someone did a picspam and listed their top ten moments/secenes in weak episodes. I don't have a top ten to list (it has been awhile since I have watched season 1 2 3 all together.) but I do have 3 that stick out to me.

1. Metamorphsis, wasn't the strongest episode to me but the memorable fight in the motel room between Sam/Dean after Dean found out about Sam's "activities". I thought it was great scene and you could literally taste Dean's fear/anger here.

2. Bugs, again not my favorite ep.. awesome scenes with S/D, and character development also. the show really got into the groove of the characters.

3. Route 66, don't shoot me! We got to see a different side of Dean early in season 1. I liked Cassie, though I think they squeezed in too much for her to be in one episode.

I think you are right about these eps. They may not be the strongest, but they have some wonderful moments. I used to think Route 666 was the worst ep, but when I went back and watched it again I realized how important it was to Dean's character. They really developed him as a person and Jensen's performance was fantastic. Seriously, Jensen's performance alone knocks this out of the "worst episode" spot. Not to mention the awesome Impala scenes!! I loved getting to see Dean and his baby in a proper chase! I'm sorry to say it, but the actress that played Cassie was the weak link in that episode. With a stronger actress, it would have been better than it was. Still a strange plot, though.

I actually didn't think Metamorphosis was bad at all. It wasn't necessarily the best, but I wouldn't have called it bad. I liked it.

Bugs definitely has some problems, but there are so many good moments that I still like it. I actually love it a little more knowing all of the behind the scenes trouble they had with the bees and such. I think knowing that THEY knew it didn't completely work, makes it kind of charming.

The problem is that Supernatural is so consistently good that our standards are very high! We expect to be wowed every week! Then, when there's an episode that isn't quite as good as usual it stands out. If you're used to getting straight A's that single B seems like a failure.

I agree! it could be like Smallville now, no offense to that show, but I wish they would end it already though I am going to season 9 for Clark/Lois. that is one thing I have come to appreciate about the show complex characters, even when the show was bad but the episode as a whole was enjoyable, but yeah I was wondering what peoples opinions were.

"The Magnificent Seven" is far from my favorite episode, but the hilarious scene with Dean getting some action in a hotel room while Sam waits in the car almost makes up for it.

I'm not too big a fan of Tall Tales to be honest with you, too much like the X Files episode Bad Blood for my likes, but, I love the moment when in Dean's version of events Sam remarks "we're here on an important investigation Dean, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah". For me that's an episode full of great moments but it's not actually a great episode. I think The Trickster's third season appearance is a hell of lot better.

Bugs and route 666 are my guilty pleasures.

There not my favourite episodes but the brother moments in both tell us so much. When Dean said he would blow his brains out if he lived in the suburbs, my first thought was that it was a case of protesting to much. Then in Route 666, we get further confirmation that Dean wants a steady relationship and some to love and someone to love him.

I totally loved the continuity between the two episodes, even if its only in my head.

I love the insight that we get into Sam in Bugs, about how he felt growing up, and him finding out that John checked up and was proud of him, again following continuity from Phantom Traveler.

I also liked Sam's brotherly teasing of Dean in Route 666.

So, while those 2 episodes will never make my top ten list, they are definitely on my rewatch list.

I wouldn't say it's a "weak" episode, but I think being in between such distinct stories "RoadKill" can be easily passed over. Going from the angst of BUABS the levity of Tall Tales is not only a relief, but glaringly discernible. But transitioning between TT, RK into Heart!!! (which obliterated thousands of people, good job on that Gamble) Roadkill just seems, run of the mill, despite some VERY good moments in the episode.

I like that in season 2 the writers ventured outside of Sam and Dean's perspectives, we got a glimpse of the world through Ronald's eyes in Nightshifter. But RK went full on to tell the story from Molly's perspective, and it really does work! Her meeting them on a dark road, in the middle of the night, with a trunk full of weapons, adds a dimension of "creepiness" to their characters that we don't normally pay attention to sharing their perspective.

There were some CHOICE lines in this episode including "It smells like old lady in here." and "Oh god!"..."Call me Dean."

Good points about Roadkill, Jamie. I think it's quite good, but I tend to forget about it. That's a shame. I love seeing the subtle interaction between the boys, the knowing looks, as they're talking with Molly. I also find Molly and the ghost-dude-what's-his-name surprisingly interesting. And for some reason, I love it when Dean kicks in the door to the crawl space! Of course, Dean kicking in doors is always a pleasure.

I don't think it's just in your head Adder! That is key to Dean's character! He may be tough and cocky on the outside, but deep down he wants love and security more than anything. I love that they've consistently maintained that element of Dean's character throughout the series!

weakest eppys:

no exit: but must admit to loving the scene with sam and jo in the back seat, with ellen pissed off in the front.

rte 666: only good part for me was dean's reaction to sam's maybe at the end to get rid of the truck.

bugs: funniest part: sam giving dean a smack as he was pulling in the garage to squat in empty house.

I don't think that "Long Distance Caller" was weak, but like Roadkill, was oddly positioned (well, everything was oddly positioned with the strike).

Anyways: "Long Distance Caler" really set up the brothers having differing points of view and the idea that their ideals and drives could lead to seperation. I mean, Sam rents a car! He takes off on his own even when Dean is so desparate to believe there is hope.

I thought this episode did a lot for the brother dynamic.

I thought LDC was oddly positioned within the season as well. It seemed to stick out like a sore thumb where it was. It would have done better a couple episodes earlier. JMO!

I agree. I didn't like Route 666. I didn't like Cassie as a character or the actress who played her. I just didn't "feel" the whole situation with her.
But the car chase at the end with Dean was worth it!
And also for some reason, when I'm watching my dvd's, I almost always skip over Hookman. I just didn't enjoy that episode too much either and I've never been able to really put my finger on why...
Though I did like Dean teasing Sam about his coffee at the beginning. That's always cute.

Yeah, eps I skip on my dvd are definately, Route 666, Road Kill and Ghostfacers.

I liked Metamorphisis and LDC because of the tension between the bro's. I loved the fight the boys had in Meta - and couldn't really be bothered with the MOTW story just so they'd get to the next part of the fight.

Same with LDC. That was a terrific scene where Dean reveals how desperate/scared he is that he's willing to believe that it's his Dad and that he has a solution for him...sad.

With Red Sky, my ff button gets used BIG TIME, but SN is so good, that there's always some little scene, some look that you wait for in the worst of eps that keeps you watching.

I think the fact that the directors/producers acknowledge which eps they dislike also makes a difference as to how you view an episode. They voiced their opinions on The Monster at the End of this Book, and of course the lovely Kim Manners at the Paley Festival way back in S1. Bless.
