Since many newbies, like I was once, tend to run into trouble when trying to post an image thought this step-by-step, screencap illustrated guide might be helpful for them. Not sure where to post this or if I should post this at all, but by all means go ahead if it needs to be moved or deleted. smile.gif

Without further ado off we go...

First thing to know is you have to directly host your picture. (If we would all upload the boards would crash since they would take up too much webspace.) Meaning you will have to upload it to an image hosting site. Photobucket or Imageshack are the best known options for that right now. (Note: For this tutorial I used Photobucket, cause my Mozilla seems to hate Imageshack.) For that you will have to have an account with them. (Registering is free and easy.) Also note that my computer is on my own language, but I will translate the highlighted stuff.

So, assuming you have an account, first step, log into your account:

user posted image

Now, search for the green button on top that says upload. You should get a screen like this if you click on it:

user posted image

Next step is to choose your file. On mine you can see even the attributes of it, the extension being JPG for instance. And click on the Open button. (The one on top.)

user posted image

After the picture is uploaded you will be prompted to save the new picture you just uploaded and continue to your album. Just click on the blue button that says exactly this and you will be taken back to your album.

And you should see your image. Now highlight the link under your photo you uploaded and want to post, with clicking on it that says Direct link then right click on your highlighted link and on the little menu popping up go to Copy

user posted image

Now hard part is done. tongue.gif

Go to the thread you want to post your photo at and click on the Add Reply button. And you will see a buttonon top of the post box that says IMG

user posted image

You will see a little box pop up.

user posted image

Right click on the space for your link and go to Paste on the little menu.

user posted image

Now you should see your link in the box:

user posted image

Press ok and your link should appear in the post box with two IMG tags like this:

user posted image

Now you can scroll down and press the Add Reply button and post away. smile.gif
Apologies for the huge pictures, I will try and crop them further if necessary. Hope you find this tutorial useful and not too hard to understand. I tend to not be the best when it comes to these thing and english isn't my first language. laugh.gif

Wow! This was a lot of trouble to go through! You're awesome! rockon.gif
Bad news for me, however..because your step by step made it even more frustrating...let me tell you why..because I promise I have done it exactly this way..and every time I do I think "Yeah! Totally gonna work this time!" then I click "reply" and wah wah wahhhhh...it tells me the same thing about "dynamics won't allow this image to be shown"..... mixedsmiley0302ok.gif

I don't know if it's hopeless. Does it do it to all the pictures or just one? It might work for other pics but just not that one.

Becca, you could try re-naming your picture so that it has a shorter name. You have to find the picture on your computer, rename it, and then upload it again.

Since you just got a Photobucket account, I don't think you'd have many sub-folders, but sometimes the link is too long because of that.

For example, I have sub-folders that go...Yoda's pictures-->Supernatural -->fanart -->banners. If I would upload a picture to the banners folder the link might be too long to use on the board. The way to fix something like that is to upload the picture to your main folder. (Yoda's pictures, in my case.)

Becca asked me how to do that but I had no idea. That's actually good to know. See Becca. You're not the only one learning stuff.

Although I already know how to post pictures, thanks for going to the trouble of making up a tutorial, Cinca.

For those having trouble, I don't actually use the Direct Link in Photobucket, but instead copy and post the "IMG" code and I can just post that link directly in the thread without having to click on the IMG button above. Does that make any difference?

I take it it didn't work, huh? sad.gif

Is it coming up with a message? Are you able to copy and paste a/the URL link exactly as you're trying to post it? This may give me a better idea as to whether I can figure out the problem or surrender to far more computer-savvy than me!

I'm determined to get to the bottom of this!

Becca, can you please post the link you're trying to use? Just copy and paste the link into your next post so that I can see what kind of imagehosting site you're using and what kind of code you're using.

It looks like a bust! angry.gif I tried with like, 20 or so pics of Supermatural stuff and then like, just regualr pics of me and my fam, none will work..I have no clue why as these are from completely different mediums, I mean, mine are obviously taken with my own camera, so I could understand if there was some bizarre issue, but my Spn pics are collected from different places on the net, so....I kinda give up! banghead.gif mixedsmiley0302ok.gif

I'm just using the IMG code at Photobucket, if this helps at all...I had no clue what do do as other sites I had been on just allowed the good ol "copy and paste", so I am pretty green with it, but even for a computer illiterate like myself, the directions were pretty self explanatory! laugh.gif
I will try to post a link, but embarassing as this is..I gotta just tell you, I really have no clue how to do that! Sorry if I just totally made you feel like this right now: ohgeez-1.gif
