Chapter 2
Game“Death is nothing to us, since when we are, death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.”

Angel DaSilva glanced up at the clock for the umpteenth time that day, wondering if the English class would ever end. As her the English teacher, a plump, grey-haired man named Andrew McKayes, walked up to the chalkboard, the secretary’s voice came over the P.A.
“Mr. McKayes?” He grunted. “Could you send Angel DaSilva down to the office? She can bring her books with her.”
“On her way.” Well aware that everyone was watching her, Angel gathered her books and, exchanging a confused look with Swink, exited the room. Turning back to the class, Mr. McKayes continued speaking.
“Romeo and Juliet, a tale of two, star-crossed lovers…” the class went back into its usual stupor, including Swink.
The office was just like any other office at a high school, except this one had olive green walls, decorated with photographs of previous principles that had come and gone. When Angel walked into the office, she saw her foster mother standing there, a solemn look on her face along with the principle and secretary. Once the door was closed, Angel knew this wasn’t good.
“Angel, have a seat.” Of all the times she had been to the office, the principle had never sounded so sad before. “Your cousin Bausten, he’s dead.”
When someone cuts straight to the chase, it hits hard. The words stung Angel’s heart before she could even absorb everything that Principle Kenny had said. Bausten dead? That couldn’t be true. She had spoken with him the night…
“Angel?” Angel looked up to find her foster mother, Naomi, watching her. Finally, Angel managed a small nod. “You okay, sweetie?” Another nod. Naomi looked at the principle. “I think we’ll call it a day for her.” Deciding not to argue, Principle Jones nodded. Walking to his desk, he tore a piece of paper, wrote something on it and then handed it to Naomi. Wrapping an arm around Angel, the two walked out of the office. Principle Jones shook his head as he watched the two.

Later that afternoon, the sound of a bell twinkling caught Bela Talbot’s attention and looked up in time to see Angel enter the small antique shop. As Angel dropped her backpack onto a chair, Swink walked up to meet her from working on the computer.
“Hey, Angel. We heard about Bausten. It…” he hesitated, thinking of a word. “…sucks.”
“Thanks,” Angel said, a faint smile on her face as they embraced each other.
“Hate to break up the scene, guys,” said a voice behind them. Turning around, Angel watched as Dean walked out from behind the counter. “But you do realize that I’m standing right here.”
“Of course, how could we not recognize that smart ass mouth of yours, Dean Winchester?” Angel replied as she sat down. That’s when the bells twinkling caught the group’s attention and they looked at the door to find Sam walk in.
“Hey, Angel, someone gave this to me to give to you.” He said as he walked over to her and handed her a field bag. Curiously, Angel opened it. Inside were three videogames, some movies, books and other material. She looked up at Sam.
“Thanks.” When Dean pulled out a lighter, he flipped it open.
“Lighter works.” As the flame glowed brightly, Angel flinched and Dean closed it. “Sorry, Angel.”
“Don’t worry about it. You can have it.” Swink placed an arm around Angel as Sam slapped Dean’s arm and gave him an annoyed look. Looking in the bag, Dean pulled out a videogame. It had a red cover. “Stay Alive? Never heard of it.”
“That was the game that Bausten…” Angel’s voice trailed off and Bela spoke.
“Well, since the police aren’t finding anything, I think we should why everyone is so scared to even play that game. I mean, what’s the worse that could happen?”

Lightning illuminated the sky, a crack of thunder following after. As Angel finished the dishes, there was a knock on the door. Since Naomi and Ryan were out for dinner, Angel had invited the gang over to her place to test the game. Placing the cup in the rack, Angel walked over to the door. Looking through the small hole, a familiar face appeared.
“Hey,” Angel jumped back, cursed under her breath and then opened the door slightly. “Can Angel come out and play?”
“Swink, you scared the crap out of me, honey.”
“Why, yes, I’d love to come in, thank you for asking.” Angel sighed and unlocked the door that led into the apartment.
No sooner had Swink entered the room, Dean, Bela and Sam entered. Once everyone was seated and ready, Angel started the game. When a leather-bound book with cursive writing appeared, words also appeared on the screen.
“Damn thing won’t let us get to the menu.”
“Maybe you’re supposed to read that prayer right there.” Bela said as she pointed to the book.
“Voice-activated? No way, that’s advance technology.” Swink said and Bela rolled her eyes.
“Come to me, clouds.” The words began to vanish as Angel read them. Everyone was shocked.
“No way.” Bela said and Angel sighed.
“Come on, let’s read it together.”
“
Come to me, clouds. May you rise as an evil storm born to rip them open. Let the cover of night bear witness and destroy those who resist so they shall harm me not. Let the blood of many cleanse me, preserving beauty eternal, I pray you.”
Once they had spoken the words, the words vanished and the book closed. While they chose their characters for the game, a demonic voice told them the story of the Blood Countess. When that was complete, the game had begun.
