Title: Lack of Danger in the show?

It seems like there's no real sense of danger anymore.

Ever since about the end of Season 5, I've felt that none of the main characters are in any danger. They die, but they'll just come back.

Bobby coming back as a ghost was a huge buzz-kill for me. Castiel came back this season too, but that made sense to me considering that it was just the man the angel possessed.

But, anyway, I just feel that its a problem on the show.

Again, no hate, but just a criticism. There's no doubt that the chemistry between Jensen and Jared is the strong point of the series. But I feel the weak point is the lack of tension/suspense in the story.

It's like that George of the Jungle joke: "Nobody dies here. They just get really bad boo-boos," or that South Park character Kenny.

Why do you all think that the writers have gone the route of a more light-hearted series?

Discuss! :D

Personally, I like the lightheartedness. After Mary and John dying in season 1, Sam and Ash dying in season 2, Dean dying in season 3, Jo and Ellen dying in season 5, Sam dying in season 6 and Bobby dying in season 7, I'm ready for more lightheartedness.

I want more jokes and pranks and an end to the Leviathan's and Dick Roman. I'm also ready for the angel mess to be over with.

The only angel's I even like are Castiel, Gabriel and Balthazar.

Hmmm...interesting question. And for the record, I don't think people who don't enjoy one or more aspects of the show, necessarily 'hate it'. I love the show and will admit that there are some things I didn't enjoy as much as others.

However in response to your observation, I think for me the tension comes from not the actual dying, but the changes that happen to the characters once they return. None of them have been the same and each has had their own trials and had to deal with the consequences after.

Memories of hell for both boys, Sam coming back without a soul, Bobby coming back without a body, Cas coming back as something different, although that is still developing. All of these things have changed the character and have brought about unforeseen consequences. To me it's sort of like a ripple in a pond. You affect one ring and others expand or contract. Change to much and you might have a tidal wave.

So to me, it stays interesting even though I suspect they will not kill off the boys again anytime soon. Bobby may or may not come back and Cas wasn't really 'alive' to begin with so I'm not sure he technically died. Having Death and Dean both repeating that messing with the natural order usually means bad things also helps a bit and adds tension to the show.

I don't know if that makes sense. But I also have to agree that I am enjoying the more lighthearted feel of this season. After a few seasons where the episodes were pretty intense, it feels nice to see the boys enjoying themselves again. I have no doubt we'll still get more darkness, but once in awhile it's nice to just bask in the sun for a bit. :)

Because of the abundance of death and other troubles in the series, 5 and 4 and even 6 season, too much time in the series was assigned to the snot and clarify the relationship of the main characters, and it's a little hurt, or what. I have sometimes thought that they were overdoing this. A 7th season is the rest of it, to some extent.

Sorry for the grammatical and lexical mistakes, I hope you understand
