Title: Screen Capture For Video?
mc2 - December 23, 2010 03:52 PM (GMT)
I am hoping someone out there can help me....
I am trying to make a video for a friend of mine for Christmas (yes I know it's late, but I thought I knew how to do it & thought I had plenty of time...)
For the last part of the video I need to do a screen capture (I guess that's the right term) of separate video. I have tried two separate software programs (RiverPast & Debut) and I can get the picture but no sound.
I had sound for a while with Debut but it was stacatco static not the real sound. Now I've lost that too (can't remember what settings I used to get the static).
Anyone have any suggestions or hints? I have an HP multimedia PC & I'm running Windows7.

You mean cutting the clip out? It seems like that. Screen capture means a picture cut out of a video. No sound, just the image.
With clips I usually cut and edit them in windows movie maker while making the vid.
Or did you mean perhaps an animation? They don't have sound either, but VirtualDub is pretty good at exporting clips or animations or caps frame by frame from a video.

I guess I'm trying to cut a clip out...
Here's what I've done before - I start the video & then pause it where I want to start recording. Then I launch the screen capture software. I set the "region" that I want recorded (the section of my screen where the video is playing). I click "record" on the software and restart my video. The software records whatever is playing in the video - both sound and video. Then I stop the software once I've recorded the portion I want.
Problem is that when I do that with the two software programs I have, all I can get is the video portion - the soundtrack is missing.
Does that make sense?

Ah I see, yep that does make sense. It sounds like a software to record activity on screen rather then cut clips. Those I believe are strictly for vid recording with no sound. Are you recording from a video file? You could try Windows Movie Maker then, that's what I use for vidding and I don't have to pre cut clips with it. But it doesn't support all the formats though.
VirtualDub is also good at that. Though that's not a vidder software.

I have movie maker, but I think that only works if you have the video already on your computer - which I don't.
The one I used to use was River Past and it worked great until I upgraded to Windows7 and RiverPast Pro. Now I can't get the sound to work. And despite what RiverPast claims - they don't really offer any user or technical support....

Oh I see. Yes, Movie Maker works with video files already on the comp and while you work with it you can't move the files you use anywhere. Sorry I can't be much of help, I never used these kind of programs before...
