I would say these are pretty damn good figures for a paid channel rather than free to air - we were only getting around 600,000 on ITV2!!!

Interestingly, Vampire Diaries dropped from over 1 million viewers down to 785,000 this week - so that's around a quarter of their initial audience lost! And isn't it hilarious that Living are advertising SN on ITV2 during Vampire Diaries????? :lol:

I have tuned into Vampire Diaries mainly because I like Ian but found it abit slow ..

I haven't watched Vampire Diaries, for some reason it just doesn't appeal to me.

I guess Vampire Diaries is to SN fans what Grey's Anatomy is to former ER fans - while I wouldn't called TVD a guilty pleasure, I definitely feel guilty when I watch it! Most of it is teen angst nonsense, but then Ian Somerhalder shows up and its a totally different show!

Still looking good ratings-wise - Free To Be You And Me actually did slightly better than GGYA last week! And we made the +2 chart this week, which we didn't before! And guess what? We beat Grey's Anatomy on +1 AND +2!!! And if you add the figures together for all three channels (which I did because I'm sad like that), SN actually got 532,000 while GA only got 506,000! (Yeah I know, some SN fans probably watch all three showings...!)

Incidentally, Vampire Diaries slipped to 7th place on ITV2 with 525,000 which is less than SN was getting over there. Snigger.

I'm loving these ratings and have to confess i am one of the ones who watches more than once.

Its a shame not everyone can get livingtv,someone wrote into the tv mag and complained about it as they don't have the channel. I don't have it but have a lovely mum at home recording it and posting the dvds to me.She loves the show aswell.

Yeah, I wish we were still on a free-to-air channel too, but at least SN will be on Virgin 1 eventually. Be interesting to see what the ratings are like on there!

Only a small drop in figures for The End. We didn't make it onto the +2 top ten this week, but, interestingly, the Sunday repeat made it's first appearance in the Living top 10...

Strangely, over on ITV2, Vampire Diaries was back up to 735,000.

By the time Supernatural Season 5 comes to Virgin 1 the DVD will be out.
It will also come on to BT Vision.
Which is such a shame.
ITV2 are idiots for dropping the show.
I shall just have to carry on watching it on the Internet.

That's good to hear. They are certainly putting in more of an effort than channel 10 here is OZ. I have seen the Marble Arch thing before, it's brilliant; I wonder how they did that? A hologram or something like that. London is brilliant, love London.

How do they work out the ratings? Do they work out an average over the 3 showings just use the first one? Or are they all seperate?:wave

They give separate ratings for each showing - on Living, then the +1 and +2 channels and then also for the Sunday night repeat. I think it's done in the same way as the US Neilsen system where they monitor a sample of households and then translate that into an average viewing figure for the whole country. I think!

I saw that and I'm happy that we did so well but can I say I'm a little sad that it was for the Paris Hilton episode.

I think that the earlier episodes were better. Can we just hope that those that came to the party late have seen how good the show is and stick around.

Barb works in a similar way to Neilson - "Viewing estimates are obtained from a panel of television owning households representing the viewing behaviour of the 26+ million households within the UK. The reporting panel of 5,100 homes is selected to be representative of each ITV and BBC region. The service covers viewing within private households only."

We've dropped about 200k from the ITV2 figures but I think that these are really good figures if we bear in mind that not everyone has access to LivingTV (through Virgin or Sky).

I think that the Living ad campaign has really paid off and I can't wait for the rest of the season.

Probbably a really stupid question, but if people have sky+ and therefore don't watch it at the normal time but watch a recording would they be counted in the ratings? Obviously I know only certain households are monitered then an average is worked out, but say if someone being monitered was sky+'ing it.

I think it's probably the same as in the States - those ratings don't count in the main ratings. I know in the US they have a separate chart for "timeshifted" viewings (i.e. recorded and watched later), but I'm not sure whether BARB do anything like that over here!

I know I do it ALL the time sometimes even just to watch it 10 minutes after the start to skip the adverts.
