EXT. WASHINGTON DC - DAY

Fly over the majestic city with the upbeat swinging tune "FORTUNATE SON" CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - CROWD - CONTINUOUS

On the streets below people gather together for miles. Flags wave, proclaiming their faith for the Commander and Chief. The proud citizens cheer.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - PODIUM - CONTINUOUS

A press junket aligns the grounds, PRESIDENT REYNOLDS stands beside the podium overlooking the people with a wide smile.

NEWS REPORTERS face CAMERA MEN as they ready for the speech.

NEWS REPORTER 1
President Reynolds is about to address the people who have gathered here...

NEWS REPORTER 2
The streets are crowded with people waving banners and proclaiming their faith in their Commander and Chief.

NEWS REPORTER 3
Reynolds has proven to work his own miracles over the past months since six-twenty-six.

NEWS REPORTER 4
My question to you is who needs God when we’ve got Reynolds?!

The SECURITY GUARDS scan the area, hands on their guns. Prepared. Waiting.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - CROWD - CONTINUOUS

Caught in the maelstrom of Reynold’s followers, two men in suits struggle to push their way through. As they approach it’s revealed that they’re DEAN and SAM WINCHESTER posing as Secret Service. Hands also on their guns. Tensions rising.

SAM
Where is he?

DEAN
Don’t know, could be anywhere.

FLASH ZOOM IN on a young man, JOHN FITZGERALD, in his early twenties pushing his way through the crowd. Hood pulled up over his head.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - SECURITY TOWER - CONTINUOUS

A SNIPER patrols atop a security tower placed directly beside the press. His hand on the rifle, looking through his scope zeroed in on the crowd.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - PODIUM - CONTINUOUS

Reynolds approaches the podium, the crowd bursts into a thunderous applause. Activity all around heats up.

REYNOLDS
I believe John Lennon said it best. “Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky. Imagine all the people living for today.”

Reynolds basks in the adoration of his people.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - CROWD - CONTINUOUS

John narrows his eyes. Anger taking over. He SHOVES his way through.

REYNOLDS
“I hope some day you’ll join us and the world will be as one.”

A YOUNG GOTH shoves John back.

YOUNG GOTH
Watch where you’re going. Get it?

John touches the Goth on the arm, eyes narrow.

JOHN
Got it.

The Young Goth pales, veins bulge. He falls to the floor, dying. John looks around. No one saw him. He continues on his way.

REYNOLDS
If the past has taught us one thing, it’s that we don’t need a higher power to save us.

The Winchesters arrive at the dead body. Dean bends down to inspect it.

DEAN
Christ, I can’t believe this is actually happening.

Sam keeps his eyes trained on the crowd, doesn’t see John anywhere.

BANG! The crowd runs off in all directions.

The Winchesters are frozen in place, they trade looks that signal that they’ve failed...

ACT ONE


EXT. OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN - NIGHT

The middle of nowhere. Lights illuminate from a heavily guarded military facility.

TITLE: ONE WEEK AGO...

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - NIGHT

MILITARY AGENTS track along the base making sure that everything is going as scheduled.
Stranded alone in a see-through cell is John Fitzgerald rocking back and forth in a straight jacket.

Suddenly his cell door opens, John turns to spot RIDLEY standing outside his door with his gun aimed on him. John backs away. Agents flock in and grab hold of him.

John struggles against their force, it’s useless. The Agents guide him out of his cell.

They usher him through. John’s straight jacket is removed and the agents cuff him.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - HALLS - NIGHT

John’s guided through the halls of the bunker towards the back. John’s eyes dart around taking in the number of guards.

Suddenly, he’s shoved forward by the butt of a rifle. John turns to spot Ridley motioning for him to keep going. Reluctantly he obliges.

EXT. MILITARY BUNKER - NIGHT

A military jeep waits outside. John’s forced inside along with Ridley in the back and Stu up front. The jeep drives off...

INT. MILITARY JEEP - MORNING

The agents converse. John stares down at his hands, suddenly the cuffs melt! John grins. He looks up at the DRIVER.

DRIVER
I’m tellin’ yah Stu, these freaks are dangerous. That’s the reason Reynolds wants us keeping them under lock and barrel.

JOHN
We’re dangerous huh? You have no idea.

John lunges at the driver and grabs his throat. The driver’s veins bulge as he struggles for air.
The agents try to wrestle John back. John places his other hand over Ridley-

WHAM! The jeep CRASHES into an electrical pole. Stu flies back against the windshield.

EXT. OPEN FIELDS - CONTINUOUS

The damaged jeep rests in the middle of nowhere. John slowly steps out and walks away.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - DAY

Establishing shots of Washington DC. Town Hall. The White House. Lincoln Memorial. A stretched limo drives along the streets.

INT. STRETCHED LIMO - CONTINUOUS

Inside President Reynolds watches the passing pedestrians with a twisted grin.

A CELL PHONE rings, Felix answers. Reynolds glances over.

FELIX
Hello?... Are you absolutely sure?... Thank you.

Felix hangs up.

REYNOLDS
What is it?

FELIX
Soldier twenty five hundred escaped a couple of hours ago...

REYNOLDS
Get our men on it, our top priority has just become bringing him into custody.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY - DAY

Fly by shot over New York, rapidly approaching Kate’s apartment to find Kate and Dean inside.

INT. KATE’S APARTMENT - CONTINUOUS

Dean stares down at an empty glass of alcohol, his speech is slightly slurred. Kate watches on in concern.

DEAN
You do know you’re harboring a fugitive right now, don’t you?

KATE
Has that ever stopped me before?

DEAN
Should.

Dean wipes his hand across his face, takes a deep breath. Tense silence, then...

DEAN (CONT’D)
How’s Rhodes dealing with everything?

KATE
Like we all did when we found out. He’s going to be coming over soon--

DEAN
Just stopping by. Sam thinks he may have stumbled upon something.
(Overwhelmed)
A powered mutant in DC killing anyone that comes in contact, with a single touch of his hand --

Dean twists the glass in his hands. He stops and stares out the window.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Everything we did was for nothing.

KATE
We saved lives.

DEAN
How many did we save? How many are going to die? Do the math, might as well be for nothing.

KATE
Don’t say that.

DEAN
I’m the only one seeing the bigger picture here, the world’s coming to an end! Do you have any idea what that means? That means zip, nada, existence as we know it is going to be wiped out. And why? Not because of some demonic figures, werewolves or any other freak of the week. But, because of us!

Dean THROWS the glass against the wall, it shatters. Kate exhales, more concerned than alarmed.

DEAN (CONT’D)
I just, I always thought there would be more to life than that you know? Like we were making a difference, but it turns out - I wasn’t even a part of it, I’m just the errand boy.

KATE
You are important.

DEAN
How?

Dean starts to make his way for the exit, Kate’s about to say something but she’s cut off--

DEAN (CONT’D)
You know what, don’t answer that. What’s the point?

Tense stand off. Kate wanting to help. Dean refusing it, he glances over at the broken glass.

DEAN (CONT’D)
I’m sorry.

He turns and leaves. Kate’s about to follow him, decides against it.

EXT. NEW YORK STREETS - DAY

The Impala idly rests in the streets below. Inside Sam slumps against the window, asleep.

FLASH CUT TO:
INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - HALLS - NIGHT - FLASHBACK

Samuel and Alex rush through the rotting halls, the overhead lights blink on and off. They stop beside a door. Alex KICKS it open and storms inside.

The room belongs to that of a college guy with the usual set up. The guy notices the intrusion and backs away. Alex and Samuel corner him against the wall.

In a blur, the guy is shoved aside revealing the distorted face of John Fitzgerald.

INT. IMPALA - RESUMING

The car door SWINGS OPEN. Dean steps in. Sam stirs awake, he glances over at his brother. Dean stares out the windshield, in a trance.

SAM
Everything okay?

Dean looks over at him, with a hint of envy.

DEAN
Everything’s fine Sam, world’s coming to an end - but, it’s all cool.

SAM
We’ll beat this thing, together.

DEAN
I’m sure you will.

Dean powers up the engine, PUMPS UP THE VOLUME. Shifts into drive and SLAMS his foot down on the gas. The WHIRL OF THE ENGINE as the Impala SPEEDS OFF.

EXT. WASHINGTON STREETS - DAY

John purchases a hot dog from a VENDOR. He walks off and takes a bite. He rounds the corner at a TELEVISION STORE with a display window and spots the news, behind the newscaster is a black and white photograph of John with the words: WANTED. CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS.

John’s eyes nervously dart around the street. Slowly people start to gather around him. He turns towards them, a couple are already on their phones.

John runs off through a back alley.

EXT. SUPREME COURT BUILDING - DAY

Reynolds gets out of the Limo alongside Felix. They hurry up the white marble steps to the patio. Agrialept steps out from the around the corner and locks eyes with Reynolds.

REYNOLDS
It’s all right, go watch the perimeter.

Reynolds slowly approaches.

AGRIALEPT
I take it you didn’t expect to see me.

REYNOLDS
I won’t lie, it’s a little abrupt. What’s this about?

AGRIALEPT
Soldier twenty five hundred.

REYNOLDS
All taken care of.

AGRIALEPT
Is it? He escaped from a maximum security prison. If word gets out about it, if the police find him first --

REYNOLDS
They won’t.

AGRIALEPT
Oh, and how exactly do you know this?

REYNOLDS
I have my best men working on --

AGRIALEPT
Your best men? Sometimes that’s not good enough!

REYNOLDS
If you had let me finished... the calls only go in and out to my guys. Whatever happens, they’ll be the first to know, many times - the only to know. If you forgot, I’m the President of the United States. What I want, I get, and trust me - since the Patriot Act it’s pretty much anything and everything. So if there’s anything else, please, enlighten me. If not, let me do my job.

Agrialept takes a step forward, Felix intercepts him.

FELIX
I wouldn’t if I were you. You’re not the highest ranking general around here, don’t you ever forget that.

Agrialept adjusts his suit coat.

AGRIALEPT
This better not get out of hand.

Agrialept storms of. Felix smirks.

REYNOLDS
I had it covered.

FELIX
I could see that, but I just love being the victor.

INT. BUILDING - HALLS - DAY

MUSIC CUE: "SHOUT" TEARS FOR FEARS


A TALL MAN with a suitcase walks through the halls, he turns to enter the stairwell. Christopher Carter steps away from a nearby corner and follows him in.

INT. BUILDING - STAIRWELL - DAY

The man hurries down. Christopher leaps down from a higher perch and knocks the man down.

The man attempts to fight back. Christopher knocks him out. Reaches into his pocket and pulls out an ACCESS CARD.

INT. BUILDING - HALLS - MOMENTS LATER

A GLOVED HAND presses down on a FIRE ALARM. Christopher steps away from the alarm. Approaches a CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS room, swipes the card and enters as workers leave their offices.

INT. BUILDING - CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS - CONTINUOUS

Christopher searches through an array of FILING CABINETS. Quickly shutting and opening each drawer as he searches. Finally, he arrives on the one he’s looking for: PROJECT MANHATTAN 09’.

Christopher copies the files, gathers the duplicates, puts the folder back, and leaves.

INT. BUILDING - HALLS - CONTINUOUS

The halls, still flooded with activity, provide the perfect cover as Christopher easily blends into the crowd departing the building.

EXT. BUILDING - MOMENTS LATER

Christopher leaves and scans the area as FIRE TRUCKS arrive. He hides the duplicates within his over coat and continues on his way. “In black and white, they really, really aught to know.”

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - NIGHT

Establishing shot of a run-down apartment complex. John approaches, hands stuffed in his pockets.

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - MELISSA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

A television set plays the news footage from earlier. John’s face plastered across the screen. The REPORTER speaks to his audience.

REPORTER
If you see this man, please immediately contact your local authorities. He’s considered to be armed and dangerous.

In bed, Melissa JONES, early twenties wearing a nightgown, leans forward. Interest peaked. A nearby photograph depicts her with John. A happy couple.

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - HALLS - MOMENTS LATER

John stands outside one of the rooms. Sweat beads down his forehead. He knocks a couple of times. Then repeatedly, growing louder with each knock. The door opens to reveal Melissa.

MELISSA
What are you doing here? Where were you?

John’s eyes dart back and forth, he wipes the sweat away from his forehead.

JOHN
It's a long story.

MELISSA
You disappeared for months, no calls, no messages. Nothing.

JOHN
It's complicated.

MELISSA
Complicated? Where were you?

John looks away, at a loss. He looks back at Melissa, eyes pleading.

JOHN
Can you please just let me in, I’ll explain everything. Please?

Melissa eyes him warily, she steps aside. John stumbles into the room.

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - MELISSA’S ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Melissa turns on the lights. John falls back onto the sofa and slumps over. Melissa watches on, waiting for him to say something. He looks towards her with tear stained eyes.

JOHN
I’m in serious trouble.

Melissa slowly backs away, conflicted. Her eyes dart over to the PORTABLE PHONE. John doesn’t notice.

INT. CARTER’S APARTMENT - OFFICE - NIGHT

FILES are spread across a mahogany office table displaying photographs of the military bunkers housing the powered bases of operation.

Christopher shifts through the photographs and records of experiments conducted with fear and disgust.

EXT. STREETS - NIGHT

A NEWSPAPER STAND holds a stack of papers reading: FUGITIVE FITZGERALD with John’s black and white mug shot. A coin is slid in, Sam collects the paper.

SAM
That’s him.

DEAN
That’s who?

SAM
John Fitzgerald.

Dean raises his eyebrow, further off guard.

SAM (CONT’D)
The person we came here for.

DEAN
Oh, he’s the one with the magic touch. And how do we know this?

SAM
It’s complicated.

DEAN
Complicated? Right. Been hearing that word a lot lately, Sam. Well, least we got a name now.

SAM
How are we going to find him?

DEAN
Kate should have access, personal files, start digging around from there until....

INT. FBI BUILDING - MAIN COM ROOM - NIGHT

AGENT PETERSON, late twenties, swivels around in his chair.

PETERSON
We found him.

Reynolds takes a step towards him alongside Felix. Peterson stands and motions to the overhead projection screen: a digitalized map of the United States.

A TARGET appears on the map and zeroes in on Washington DC, then John’s location from a perfectly clear street view. Google map power, live feed.

PETERSON (CONT’D)
His location was just called in by a one and only Melissa Jones, ex-girlfriend.

Reynolds grins, then nods.

REYNOLDS
Get our men on it.

Reynolds walks away, patting Felix on the shoulder. Felix smirks.

FELIX
Right away sir.
(To the crew)
Get back to work.

Felix turns and leaves in the opposite direction. Peterson eyes the screen, beaming with pride.

EFFECTS: Zoom in on the map, closer and closer as it transitions to the apartment complex and loops in through a window to...

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

John looks up at Melissa with tear stained eyes.

JOHN
What they did to us, I don’t even have words to describe it. They treated us like animals. Every day I thought I was going to die. But, they didn’t want us dead. No, what they wanted was much, much worse. They were breaking us, bending everyone to their will. Creating the perfect soldier, unable to do anything but what they were told.

MELISSA
Soldiers? For what?

JOHN
I, I don’t know. They were talking about a day of retribution, a day when the world would stop bowing to God.

MELISSA
They’re anti-religious fanatics?

JOHN
I don’t know, the whole thing made no sense. All I know is that I was scared. You were the only one who got me through, thinking about you gave me a reason to fight. And I will stop them, I promise you.

MELISSA
None of this is making any sense, I mean, why you John?

JOHN
I’ve never been completely honest with you, I was too afraid of what you would think.

MELISSA
This is the part where you tell me you were in a mental institution.

John cracks a grin, he savors the moment.

JOHN
No, I’m not like everyone else. I was born different. I have the powers to harm or to cure someone with a single touch of my hand.

MELISSA
What?

JOHN
You remember your father, when he was in the hospital?

MELISSA
Terminal cancer. He got better.

JOHN
How do you think that happened over night? It’s never been heard of before.

MELISSA
That was you?

John nods, tears flow down Melissa’s face - she believes him.

MELISSA (CONT’D)
On the news, they said you killed people.

JOHN
I had no other choice, I had to get away. I’m not a bad guy Melissa, at least, I don’t want to be.

Sounds of cars arriving outside, men getting out. John glances over at the window, on edge.

MELISSA
I'm sorry.

John looks back as Melissa, confused.

MELISSA
I didn't know what else to do.

JOHN
You called them?

MELISSA
You were gone for a long time. I swear, I didn't know.

John gets up, he quickly moves to the window, looks out to see black vans below.

MELISSA
Go, I'll hold them off.

John’s eyes dart over to her, Melissa nods.

MELISSA (CONT’D)
They’re only after you, go!

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - HALLS - NIGHT

SUPER SOLDIERS clad in all black armor swarm the halls.

They stop beside an elevator shaft. Suddenly it RIPS open, the elevator car is LOWERED to their position. They file in.

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - STREETS - NIGHT

The Impala stops at the front of the building. Black Armored Vans are parked outside.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Sam watches on, concentrating.

DEAN
FBI license plates, alright.

SAM
I think we’re going after the wrong guy.

DEAN
What?

SAM
We can trust him.

DEAN
Who? John? He’s a killer Sam.

SAM
I don’t think so. Drive around, he’s not here.

DEAN
How do you know?

SAM
Just trust me on this, okay?

Dean rolls his eyes, shakes his head, presses his foot down on the gas.

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - NIGHT

John quickly makes his way down the fire escape. He hits the bottom rung, he kicks it. The rung slides down, John descends.

INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - HALLS - NIGHT

The Super Soldiers stop outside of Melissa’s room. The door is SWUNG open. They storm inside to find Melissa standing in their way. SUPER SOLDIER 1 presses his hand to his head, then shoots her. Blood oozes down her forehead.

SUPER SOLDIER 1
She knows. He went out through the back fire escape.

The Super Soldiers turn and leave.

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - ALLEY - NIGHT

John runs through the back alley, sweat drenches from his forehead. He checks behind his back. Suddenly, he bumps into another man blocking his way. John backs away and looks up to see Sam looking down on him.

JOHN
No, stay away! I swear to God, I’ll kill you!

SAM
I’m not here to hurt you.

JOHN
You expect me to believe that?

Dean approaches.

DEAN
We’re here to help you.

John faces Dean, confused.

JOHN
I’m not going back there.

John GRABS Sam by the arm. Sam withers around in pain. John turns Sam to face Dean, a human shield.

JOHN (CONT’D)
Just stay away from me!

DEAN
Take it easy, okay? You can trust us. We’re the good guys!

Sam’s flesh turns pale, Dean equips his gun.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Should have figured. I thought you said we could trust him, Sam.

A super soldier approaches from behind them. Dean notices, he fires. No effect.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Sam, behind you!

John looks, he backs away afraid. Sam holds out his hand, the soldier is knocked back.

DEAN (CONT’D)
You have two choices, come with us or go with the men with guns, what’s it gonna be?

JOHN
Neither. You work for them!

DEAN
No, we don't, didn't you see that guy?

JOHN
Then he's playing you too.
(Glares at Sam)
Because he's the worst one.

Dean looks over at Sam, Sam looks away. More gun shots erupt in their direction. Dean grits his teeth, Sam exhales at a loss.

John's cornered, he looks at the Winchesters trapped.

DEAN
What's it gonna be?

John glares at Dean, he has no other choice. They get into the Impala. The engines rev as it speeds off.

EXT. APARTMENT COMPLEX - STREETS - NIGHT

The Impala rounds the corner. From around the corner of a BLACK ARMORED VAN, Legion watches on. He grins.

LEGION
Sam and Dean Winchester.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - NIGHT

The Impala speeds through the crowded streets, whirling in and out of passing traffic.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

John’s eyes dart back and forth between the brothers. Dean glances behind his seat.

DEAN
Who were those guys?

JOHN
Why don’t you ask big foot over there? Maybe he can fill you in.

Dean looks over at Sam. Sam exhales, looks away.

SAM
I can’t remember.

JOHN
What a relief, isn’t it? I wouldn’t want to remember what you guys did to us either.

DEAN
Just tell us.

JOHN
They were the government’s secret weapon, it’s new line in the next advancement of war.

DEAN
You’re telling us the government--

JOHN
Ran secret experiments, tried to brainwash us, ran a prison camp? Yeah, I am. And there’s plenty more where they came from.

Dean notices something coming towards them from the back window. Gaining speed. FASTER and FASTER. It comes into focus - a SUPER SOLDIER 2 running at top speed.

DEAN
What the hell?

In mid-stride the soldier equips his gun and AIMS. Dean notices.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Hang on!

Dean grasps the wheel.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - CONTINUOUS

The Impala makes a HARD LEFT through traffic, narrowly missing oncoming cars. A collision is caused in his wake, halting the running soldier. A car LAUNCHES into the air.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

The Impala speeds through, Dean glances behind his back to see the crash. Suddenly the car lands right behind them. John’s eyes dart back and forth between the Winchesters and the mayhem.

DEAN
So, this camp, what exactly did they do to you guys? They made you this way?

JOHN
Made us? No, we were born this way - they just hooked us up. Locked us away in cages. Ran tests to make us stronger. They tortured us, pushed us to our limits. You almost killed me.

SAM
It wasn’t me!

JOHN
Looked like you, talked like you. Amnesia doesn’t make you a better man Samuel. Even liked it too.

WHAM! The Impala jolts, swerves out of control.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - CONTINUOUS

Attached to the hood of the car, SUPER SOLDIER 3, hangs on as he leaps down to the front and stares in on Dean. Dean’s eyes go wide as the Soldier PUNCHES through the glass.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Dean scowls, he grips the wheel. He SWERVES the wheel off to the side, the Soldier loses his grip and flies off.

DEAN
Son of a --

SAM
Dean...

DEAN
What?!

Dean turns to look behind seeing TWO ARMORED BLACK VANS and SUPER SOLDIER 2 riding atop of it.

DEAN (CONT’D)
Can’t we ever catch a break?!

Dean loses control of the wheel, the Impala swerves out of control.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - CONTINUOUS

Ice spreads along the streets. Narrowly attacking the Impala. SUPER SOLDIER 4 leans out the window of a van, hand out - sending the ice!

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Dean glances back and forth between Sam and John.

DEAN
Sam, do something.

SAM
There’s too many people.

DEAN
It’s either us or them.

Dean narrows his eyes, grits his teeth. There’s no way getting around it. Sam concentrates.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - CONTINUOUS

The Iced Armored Van LIFTS up into the air and is FLUNG off to the side by an invisible force. Pedestrians run for cover, screaming. Some get hit in it’s wake.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Sam exhales, nerved. Dean notices.

DEAN
It’s war.

John smirks, on the verge of laughter. Sam angrily turns around.

SAM
What?

JOHN

Gun fire erupts hitting the trunk of the Impala. Dean swerves the wheel HARD RIGHT. A tunnel nearby.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - CONTINUOUS

The Armored Car speeds towards the Impala, gaining speed. Super Soldier 1 RUNS through the streets swerving in and out of traffic, leaping over cars.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

John leans forward.

JOHN
Why don’t you just do it already?

SAM
Do what?

John’s eyes widen, crazed.

JOHN
Hell fire.

Sam’s eyes widen, he doesn’t remember. John nods.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - TESTING CHAMBER - FLASH BACK

A cold, dark room. Electronic equipment buzzes. TEN POWERED BEINGS gather around each other. Scared. Eyes darting. Suddenly their bodies light afire!

They scream in pain and AGONY as their skin slowly peels away and scorches under the heat. They pound their hands against the viewer window trying in vain to get out.

On the other side Samuel and Alex watch on, loving the show.

INT. IMPALA - RESUMING

Sam concentrates harder, struggling. Finally a fire ERUPTS behind them. Sam turns to see...

EXT. NEW YORK CITY - CONTINUOUS

The Armored Van lit a flame, Soldiers tumble out SCREAMING IN AGONY. The Impala enters the tunnel.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Dean looks over at Sam, on guard. Sam gulps, nerved. John coldly nods.

SAM
How’d you know I could do that?

JOHN
Some great All-American, flag waving patriot isn’t he?

CRASH!!! A hand REACHES in and GRABS Sam by his throat. Soldier 2. Sam struggles for air. Dean swerves the Impala, no use. Sam gasps.

DEAN
God damn it!

John watches on, eyes narrowed. He stares at Sam, boiling with rage.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - FLASH BACK

John is hooked to a metallic harness, hands and feet cuffed. John withers around in fear. Eyes held open via a metallic device. A drill nears his brain. John squirms.

Samuel holds the drilling machine, closer and closer. On a nearby monitor are John’s brain scans.
An array of cells holding the powered beings, slowly losing their grips on sanity.

INT. IMPALA - RESUMING

Time slows as the Winchester struggle against the Soldier. John tries to remain neutral; he can’t. Suddenly, he reaches over and GRABS Soldier 2’s arm, torn from the damage. Veins bulge.

EXT. TUNNEL - CONTINUOUS

Soldier 2 lets go and falls back. WHAM! Soldier 2 is hit by the car behind the Impala.

INT. IMPALA - CONTINUOUS

Sam exhales, inhales. Dean sighs in relief, looks back at John. John looks down, slightly troubled.

JOHN
I’m not going to fall to your level.

INT. FBI BUILDING - MAIN COM ROOM - NIGHT

On the digitalized map, a screen-in-screen appears of Legion. Reynolds watches on.

REYNOLDS
What’s our progress?

LEGION
Soldier twenty-five-hundred got away, the Winchester brothers have him.

Reynolds nods, nerved.

EXT. DAILY TRIBUNE - NIGHT

Cars drive by on the streets below. Sounds of people talking, dogs barking, and all the common city noise overwhelming.

INT. DAILY TRIBUNE - KARLA’S OFFICE - NIGHT

Karla sits behind her desk, focusing on her most recent news story: FLOOD DEVASTATES FLORIDA COAST LINE.

MILES GROSSMAN, fat and balding, enters the office in a tweed suit. He holds up a recent article: “PRESIDENT FREES AGENT KILL: IS OUR COUNTRY GOING TO HELL?”

MILES
What’s this supposed to be?

KARLA
That would be our top story.

MILES
President frees Agent Kill? Gates escaped, police believe they found his body. Agent Kill is dead.

Karla swivels in her chair.

KARLA
Or that’s what he wants the public to think.

MILES
Who exactly is feeding you this information?

KARLA
I don’t know, only goes by one name. Deep Throat.

Miles laughs, he crumples the paper.

MILES
Of course he is.

KARLA
I’m telling you, Doyle Gates is still out there and he’s working for the President.

MILES
And I’m telling you, in order to go after the President of the god damn United states we need some substantial hard core evidence. You get me proof, Fox, this story runs.

KARLA
I’ll get it.

Military guards surround the premises.

Towered snipers keep a close eye on the grounds below.

Move in on the main doors, following a GUARD inside.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - CONTINUOUS

Powered beings are caged like animals in rows of cells.

Alex and Samuel stand off to the side watching on, with wide smirks spread across their faces.

A TECHNOPATH is attached to a metallic harness, holes have been carved into him. Electrical cords looped through. Eyes pure white, running technological images.

INT. MILITARY BASE - TESTING CHAMBERS - TIMELESS

A SPEEDSTER runs around as spikes shoot out from the walls and ground. The speedster narrowly misses each oncoming trap. Scientists watch on from a safe distance taking notes.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - TIMELESS

John Fitzgerald is strapped to a metallic chair, harnesses over his eyes focused on a television screen with flashing images of the end of the world, dead bodies and the American flag. Reynolds watches on.

INT. MILITARY BASE - TESTING CHAMBERS - TIMELESS

Mutants are gathered around the room. Holding closely to each other. Reynolds looks across to an ELEMENTAL WOMAN. Tears flood down her eyes.

REYNOLDS
They’ve served their purpose. Do what you were born to do.

The mutants combust into a raging inferno, the Elemental Woman shields her eyes. Reynolds looks across to Alex.

REYNOLDS
We need to push her further.

Alex grabs the woman and forces her away. Reynolds looks in on the scorched corpses.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - TIMELESS

A mutant is hooked to a metallic chair. Blades cut across his body, blood oozes everywhere. He screams in AGONY. FLASH ZOOM IN on the cuts healing.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - SOLITARY - TIMELESS

Move across rotting gray halls filled with solitary cells. Hands reach out screaming in agony, cries of help. Reynolds walks through paying no attention. Center in on one of the cells.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - SOLITARY CELL - CONTINUOUS

Inside John crouches against the corner. Tears stain his eyes, the image of a lost scared kid.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - POWERED BASE - TIMELESS

Fly down endless rows of cages housing mutants. In each one is trapped another lost soul, verging on the edge of sanity.

A PRECOG is attached to a metallic chair with her eyes cut open, an electrical cord looped through linking to a viewing monitor showing a city in chaos. People rioting, a complete world-wide black out.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - PROCESSING ROOM - TIMELESS

Samuel and Alex walk through, they stop and watch as black armored agents MARCH through holding shackled mutants. The prisoners are thrown to the ground.

The agents take a hot poker and brand the back of the prisoner’s neck with an elaborate BAR CODE. Each starting with the number 666.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - TESTING CHAMBERS - TIMELESS

Elemental Woman stares with piercing eyes into a room of militaristic failures. Their bodies become cold as ice, freezing instantly. She turns to face Alex emotionless.

INT. MILITARY BUNKER - SOLITARY CELL - TIMELESS

John itches the back of his neck, his cell door opens. He looks up. An agent stands over him.

AGENT
Are you ready to cooperate?

John hesitantly nods. John stands and leaves the room, close on the BARCODE marking his neck. “All in all, you’re just another brick in the wall.”

TRANSITION TO:
INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

John sits on the bed, glancing back and forth between the Winchester brothers.

JOHN
I managed to get out before they broke me. But, that’s everything I know.

So, what exactly is it you do? Kill people just by touching them?

JOHN
I can cure them too. I don’t want to be a killer.

Sam looks down, burdened with guilt. Dean stares at John, mind buzzing with endless possibilities.

Dean scans the area, turns and leaves. Sam watches on, he turns his attention back towards John.

INT. HOTEL HALLS - CONTINUOUS

Dean closes the door, steps aside and takes out his FLASK. He opens it and swigs it down. The door slightly opens. Dean caps off the flask. Sam leaves. Dean hides it in his pocket.

DEAN
Cures people with a single touch of his hand? You thinking what I’m thinking?

SAM
I haven’t been able to think that for a long time, Dean.

DEAN
We use him.

SAM
Use him for what?

DEAN
Bobby.

SAM
What?

DEAN
Think about it, he can wake Bobby out of his coma!

SAM
Maybe.

DEAN
Maybe? This is Bobby we’re talking about. If you don’t remember, you’re the one who did that to him!

Sam exhales, looks away.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - CONTINUOUS

John flips through the channels. He stops, spotting Reynolds being interviewed by a REPORTER. His eyes narrow.

REPORTER
It looks like our time is up, but before we leave, do you have any closing comments for our viewers?

REYNOLDS
Yes, I do, Bob, is it? I only have an interest in one thing, bringing peace and prosperity to this great nation of ours and all of the people in it.

The reporter swivels in his chair to face the camera.

REPORTER
Thank you President Reynolds.
(To the camera)
And remember, there’s a scheduled live speech concerning our nation’s future to be held outside of the Capital Building in a couple days.

The station cuts to a commercial. John’s eyes dart around, he looks out towards the Winchester brothers still continuing their argument.

INT. HOTEL HALLS - CONTINUOUS

DEAN
I thought you said you remembered everything.

SAM
It's still coming back to me, like my system is re-booting.

DEAN
But, what he's talking about, it's all true isn't it?

Sam nods.

SAM
It wasn't me though, Dean. I wasn't in control. Whoever he thinks I am, I'm not that guy anymore.

DEAN
Do you remember anything that might help us?

SAM
No.

DEAN
Well, that's just great then, isn't it? They're gonna come after him. If this thing is linked to Reynolds, we're in serious hot water here.

SAM
What does Reynolds have to do with those with abilities? With the demons? I mean, I gave in to Letum, one of the horsemen, what if Reynolds is above him?

DEAN
We don't know that.

SAM
But what if he is?

Karla pours a cup of coffee as reporters hurry around. Above a television set is tuned into the news. Karla glances towards it noticing mug shots of the Winchester brothers. She inches towards it.

REPORTER
Recent news on the case of John Fitzgerald, reports have been flooding in that he was last seen with these two men. Sam and Dean Winchester, fugitives from the law, wanted on the most recent charge for the murder of Federal agent James Underlay. Now from what we can--

RING!

Karla turns to look in on her office, a light on her phone is lit.

RING! RING!

Karla hurries in and picks up the phone.

KARLA
Hello?

DEEP THROAT (O.C.)
Karla Fox?

KARLA
Yes?

DEEP THROAT (O.C.)
We need to meet. I’ll be in the underground parking lot, three blocks away. Midnight.

KARLA
I’ll be there.

The phone clicks dead. Karla exhales, hand slowly rattles as she places the phone down.

EXT. WASHINGTON STREETS - NIGHT

A hand lets go of a PAY PHONE. Christopher backs away, surveys his surroundings, then leaves.

EXT. WASHINGTON HIGHWAY - NIGHT

The Impala speeds along a lonely highway.

INT. IMPALA - NIGHT

Dean keeps his eyes focused on the road. Sam looks out the window. John keeps his eyes carefully trained on Sam.

RING!

Dean reaches over, grabs his cell phone and answers.

DEAN
Hello?

KATE (O.C.)
Dean, we’ve got some bad news.

DEAN
What kind of bad news?

KATE (O.C.)
You and Sam are wanted men.

DEAN
What else is new?

KATE
For aiding and abetting the escape of known fugitive John Fritzgerald and Underlay’s death.

DEAN
Well things just keep getting better and better, don’t they? But, we may have actually caught a break this time.

KATE (O.C.)
What is it?

DEAN
No time to answer questions, just move Bobby to the closest hospital within your jurisdiction asap. That way we can get in without a struggle.

KATE (O.C.)
Dean...

DEAN
I’ll tell you all about it when we get there.

Dean hangs up, eyes dart over to Sam then back on the road.

INT. UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE - NIGHT

Shadows pass along the decrypt walls of the garage as Karla passes through. There are only a few cars left behind.

Karla stops, surveys her surroundings. She stops as she notices Christopher approaching her hidden by the dark. He stops, Karla inches closer.

CHRISTOPHER
Stop, don’t come any closer.

KARLA
I came like you told me to, can’t I at least see your face, know your name?

CHRISTOPHER
That isn’t of importance, this is.

Christopher tosses files towards Karla, she bends over and picks it up.

CHRISTOPHER
The President is running some kind of prison camp, I figured you’d know best how to handle this situation. Might have certain contacts that have handled these kinds of matters before.

Christopher turns to leave. Karla steps forward.

KARLA
My boss...

Christopher turns to face her.

KARLA
He won’t print the Gates story without evidence.

CHRISTOPHER
I’ll see what I can do.

Christopher walks away, he blends into the shadows then disappears. Karla looks down at the documents, then scans the garage.

INT. KATE’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Dean paces around the apartment, he has another glass of liquor in his hands. Kate watches him.

KATE
And Sam doesn’t remember any of this?

DEAN
Says it’s all starting to come back to him. Who knows what else Samuel has done that Sam doesn’t remember.

KATE
Doesn’t remember or doesn’t want to?

Dean stops, turns to face Kate.

DEAN
What are you implying?

KATE
Dean, I’m sorry, I care about Sam too. A lot. He’s a good guy.

DEAN
Damn straight.

KATE
But, sudden selective amnesia after he somehow becomes himself again, isn’t that too --

DEAN
No, come on, say it.

KATE
Convenient.

Dean stops, takes a moment to think it over.

DEAN
You’re saying it was Sam all along?

No, what I’m saying is maybe he doesn’t remember because he doesn’t want to, not because he can’t. Maybe it’s still in there, just repressed.

DEAN
Maybe Samuel really was Sam. I know, it’s been on my mind a lot lately too. It doesn’t add up Kate, but I’ll tell you what does add up, we need that guy to save Bobby and for once in my miserable life I intend to do something right.

KATE
Dean...

DEAN
Sam, didn’t put Bobby into that coma, I did. Might as well have pulled the trigger myself by giving up on him. I’m not making that same mistake again. Ever.

Dean turns to look out the window, then exhales.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

John sits by the window, staring out over the passing traffic. Sam looks over towards him. There’s a noticeable awkward tension and silence between the two.

SAM
I’m sorry.

John glances over at him, not knowing how to react.

SAM
Whatever I did, I’m sorry.

JOHN
Why should I believe you? After everything you did.

SAM
I’m not the same guy anymore.

JOHN
And somehow that gives you absolution?

SAM
I didn’t say that.

JOHN
You didn’t have to.

SAM
What more do I have to do to prove it to you?

JOHN
There’s nothing you can do. You seriously think, after what you did to us that a simple apology would make everything better? You locked us away, branded us like we were freaks, and then ran experiments on us. You took away our humanity. You ruined my life.

The door tilts open, Dean walks in. John and Sam stop to face him. Dean exhales, looks over at Sam then John.

DEAN
It’s time.

John gets up, passes Dean.

JOHN
(To Dean)
You saved my life back there, least I can do.

John leaves. Sam gets up, glances over at Dean then looks down ashamed.

INT. HOSPITAL - HALLS - NIGHT

The Winchesters and John walk through the hospital wing in doctor garb and face masks. They stop at a door and walk in.

INT. HOSPITAL - BOBBY’S ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Bobby lays in the hospital bed, unconscious. His hair has been attended to in the passing months. The Winchesters and John lower the face masks. Sam inches closer to Bobby, on edge.

FLASH CUT:
INT. BOBBY’S CABIN - NIGHT - FLASH BACK

Samuel’s hand is held up, holding Bobby against the ground.

BOBBY
Who are you?

Samuel laughs, a wide grin spreads across his face.

SAMUEL
It’s me. It’s always been me.

Bobby’s eyes dart over to the bible.

INT. HOSPITAL - BOBBY’S ROOM - RESUMING

Sam steps back, guilt-ridden. John slowly presses his hands down on Bobby’s stomach. Light emanates across them. Dean shields his eyes. John steps away.

JOHN
He’ll regain consciousness soon.

Dean looks over at Sam, dreading what he has to say next.

DEAN
Perhaps it’s best if you’re not here when he wakes up.

Sam nods, then guides John out of the room. Dean takes a seat across from Bobby.

INT. HOSPITAL - HALLS - CONTINUOUS

In the darkened corner Sam leans against the door, looks over at John watching him like a hawk.

SAM
Thank you, for what you did.

JOHN
I didn’t do it for you.

Sam nods, he takes out the hotel card and money, hands them to John. John cautiously takes them.

SAM
You can go back to the room, we might be here a while.

John looks down at the card, then back at Sam. He turns to leave. Sam exhales as he stares down at the ground. His phone RINGS. He answers it, CALL FROM: KARLA FOX.

INT. HOSPITAL - BOBBY’S ROOM - CONTINUOUS

The heart monitor spikes, Dean gains composure as Bobby’s eyes slowly open. He looks around the room.

BOBBY
Where in the blazin’ hell am I?

DEAN
It’s okay Bobby. You were in a comma for a couple of months. What was the last thing you can remember?

Bobby’s eyes widen, he gets up. Stares at Dean.

BOBBY
You're not Dean.

DEAN
I'm not possessed.

BOBBY
Prove it.

DEAN
I once told you I was afraid of what I could become, that I thought the job would get to me. Break me down, made you promise not to tell my Dad because I was afraid of what he'd think.

BOBBY
(Relieved)
It is you.

Dean grins and nods. Bobby leans in, tense.

BOBBY
Where's Sam? He's not here is he? You need to stay away from him, started calling himself Samuel, he did this to me - he can't be trusted.

DEAN
I know what happened.

BOBBY
Then you killed him?

DEAN
Didn’t have to.

BOBBY
That was him though, wasn’t it?

Dean exhales, looks down, contemplating what to say.

DEAN
No. No it wasn’t. He was possessed. By a demon. I got it out of him.

BOBBY
How much did I miss?

Dean smirks.

DEAN
A lot. The war’s started Bobby, whole world’s going to hell. Dad’s on the front line though. He became an angel, a watcher, he’s been keeping an eye over us this whole time.

BOBBY
Angels?

DEAN
Trust me, I know how it sounds. The watchers were human once so they’re alright. But, the warrior angel types you need to watch out for - they bring a whole new meaning to the term religious fanatics.

BOBBY
That bad huh?

DEAN
You have no idea. Then, I killed him, Bobby, Letum. He’s dead. Nailed that son of a bitch in Vegas.

BOBBY
How have you been doing?

Dean stops, at a loss of what to say.

DEAN
Me? I’m doing great.

BOBBY
I can tell when you’re lying to me boy.

DEAN
Well, what do you expect for me to say? The world’s falling apart out there, you expect me to smile and act like everything’s going okay? Because it’s not. You tell that to Sam though and he sings a tune from Mary Poppins.

BOBBY
He’s happy?

DEAN
Happy? No, he’s just ignorant. Believes we can actually win the war.

BOBBY
You don’t?

DEAN
I don’t know what to think, lately I haven’t been wanting to think much of anything. I just want to forget.

Sam walks in, glances back and forth between them. Hesitantly looks at Bobby.

BOBBY
Dean told me all about it, you weren’t yourself. It’s okay, Sam.

Sam struggles to hold back his tears, Dean turns towards him. Sam composes himself.

SAM
Just got off the phone with Karla Fox, the reporter.

DEAN
Her again?

SAM
Said it’s urgent.

BOBBY
It’s okay, you boys go do what you need to do.

The Winchesters nod, then leave.

INT. WHITE HOUSE - HALLS - NIGHT

Reynolds and Felix walk through the halls of the White House. Felix holds a folder in his hand.

FELIX
It’s all set, if soldier twenty-five hundred attempts anything at the speech tomorrow, he will be dealt with accordingly.

Reynolds stops.

REYNOLDS
Good, do we have someone to take the blame?

FELIX
We have our man standing by, ready for instructions.

REYNOLDS
Good job Bellum, keep it up.

Reynolds walks away.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

The lights are off. John packs a bag full of guns, turns and leaves the room. On the bed is a newspaper reading: PRESIDENT GIVES SPEECH AT CAPITAL.

BLACK OUT!

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT

John slowly walks along the sidewalk. He scans the area. Notices five soldiers stationed outside of his house. He turns and walks away, takes out a cell phone.

INT. FITZGERALD HOME - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

The phone rings. An elderly woman, HELEN FRITZGERALD, approaches the phone and answers.

HELEN
Hello?

JOHN (O.C.)
Mom, it's me.

HELEN
John? Thank god your okay, I was getting worried. There are men at our house looking for you.

JOHN (O.C.)
I know, I need to see you Mom. Meet me on the train you used to take me to to get to school.

John hangs up, Helen slowly lowers on the phone. Tears run down.

EXT. JFK AIRPORT - NIGHT

An airplane passes by overhead. The Impala pulls over to the side of a stretch of road along a field. Karla stands, waiting, holding onto the files. The Winchesters approach.

DEAN
Karla, what is it that tells me this can’t possibly be good news.

Karla hands Sam the file, Sam browses through it. Each photograph triggering more flash memories.

KARLA
The President is running a secret program on those born with special abilities.

DEAN
We know, we’ve heard all about it.

KARLA
Well, everything you need, all the classified documents, it’s in there. I figured it might come in handy. Maybe you can stop them before it goes too far. He’s looking to start a war.

SAM
Dean, it’s all in here. Who they’re next targets are. Everything.

KARLA
Maybe you can shut down one their bases of operations.

DEAN
No, we can’t. The man power in there alone, we’re not ready.

Maybe we can get to their next targets before they do.

DEAN
(Grins)
One step at a time; like where your mind’s at Sammy.

SAM
But, we’re gonna need help.

Dean nods, he takes the file and browses through it. There’s security photographs of the next several targets attached.

EXT. ELEVATED TRAIN STATION - NIGHT

Helen stands beside the train stop. At the far end of both sides are five men dressed as casual civilians. The train arrives and slows to a halt, Helen boards.

INT. TRAIN - CONTINUOUS

The train takes off. Helen slowly makes her way through, she takes a seat at the far end. John approaches wearing a hoody and sunglasses. Doesn't take a seat.

Mom.

Helen jolts, startled, she turns to face him. She stands and wraps her arms around him. Tears run down her face.

HELEN
Oh thank you’re okay. I heard what the news has been saying about you, it’s not true is it?

John shakes his head. His mother smiles.

HELEN
I knew it, I knew my boy was no killer. I told everyone, my Johnny boy couldn’t even hurt a fly.

JOHN
There’s something that I have to do Mom. The news is going to say some things about me, okay? But, I just wanted you to know that they’re not true.

Helen backs away confused.

HELEN
What are you saying?

JOHN
There’s a bad man out there, who’s been hurting people. A lot of people. And I need to do something to save the world, to make everything better.

HELEN
You’re not making any sense.

JOHN
I know. I know it probably doesn’t make any sense now, but it will. I just want you to know that I had no other choice, it has to be done to ensure that this world will be safe. That you’ll be safe.

The train slows to a stop, John's eyes dart around checking the area.

JOHN

Helen approaches the exit. John watches on, they exchange one last look.

JOHN
I love you Mom.

MOTHER
I love you too John.

The doors open. Helen steps out.

EXT. TRAIN STATION - CONTINUOUS

Helen stands still, distraught, tears run down her face as the train departs.

INT. TRAIN - NIGHT

John walks through the train, passing by from one car to the next. He stops, glances behind his back. Men are following him.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

The door tilts open, the Winchesters enter and turn on the lights. Sam approaches the bathroom.

SAM
John?

Dean scowls, his eyes roam across the room.

DEAN
He’s not here.

SAM
What?

DEAN
He took our guns and left.

SAM
What would he need guns for?

DEAN
I don’t know.

Sam’s eyes catch the paper. He grabs it.

SAM
Oh no.

DEAN
What?

Sam shows Dean the paper.

DEAN
You’re thinking he went Lee Harvey Oswald on us?

SAM
Reynolds was the man responsible for what happened.

DEAN
Yeah, but no other Presidents had demons on his side. We gotta find him, fast.

Sam nods.

INT. TRAIN - NIGHT

John trains his eye on the window. The next station is close, John reaches into his pocket and pulls out a gun. The men notice and close in on him. The train slows to a stop. The doors open. John aims the gun at the ceiling. BANG! BANG! BANG!

The passengers PANIC and rush for the exit. John's lost amidst the chaos, blending in with the departing crowd. One of the men equips his walkie-talkie.

MAN
We lost sight of the target.

EXT. TRAIN STATION - NIGHT

John leaves the train station, hands stuffed in his pocket. Overhead the train departs.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC - DAY

Fly over the majestic city with the upbeat swinging tune "FORTUNATE SON" CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - CROWD - CONTINUOUS

On the streets below people gather together for miles. Flags wave, proclaiming their faith for the Commander and Chief. The proud citizens cheer.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - BEHIND PODIUM - DAY

Reynolds stands beside Felix, waiting for his signal.

FELIX
The guards are instructed to kill John on sight, he shows his face, he’s dead.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - CROWD - DAY

John walks through the crowd, hood pulled up over his face avoiding detection. He stops as he notices Reynolds approaching the podium.

REYNOLDS
I believe John Lennon said it best. “Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky.”

THE WINCHESTERS
Hurry through the crowd, pushing their way through.

REYNOLDS
Watches out over the crowd, eyes taking in everything.

REYNOLDS
“Imagine all the people living for today. I hope some day you’ll join us and the world will live as one.”

The crowd bursts into applause, cheering his name.

THE WINCHESTERS
Continue to shove their way through. Sam notices the Young Goth falling to his knees. He motions towards it, the Winchesters hurry their pace.

JOHN
Moves on as he eyes the guards, rage building.

REYNOLDS
If the past has taught us one thing, it’s that we don’t need a higher power to save us.

John grabs a SECRET SERVICE AGENT by his throat, the agent gasps for breath as he passes out. John drawers closer towards the podium. He fires his gun in the air. BANG!

The crowd runs off in all directions.

FELIX
Watches on with disdain, he equips his walkie-talkie.

FELIX
Any sign of where that gun shot came from?

SECRET SERVICE AGENT 2 (O.C.)
There’s too many people. I can’t see a thing.

FELIX
God damn it!

THE WINCHESTERS
Near the front of the podium, struggling against the tide of the crowd.

REYNOLDS
Taps on the microphone on the podium.

REYNOLDS
I know you’re out there, we can talk this over like two civilized men. I am here to help you.

JOHN
Has had it, he pushes his way through the rampaging crowd waving the gun around in the air.

JOHN
Help me? You’re the one who did this to me! You ruined my life!

THE WINCHESTERS
Notice John, Sam attempts to make a move. Dean holds him back.

SAM
They’re going to kill him!

DEAN
If they see us, they’ll kill us too. We can’t do a thing Sam. It’s over.

REYNOLDS
Spots John, eyes glance up at the sniper taking aim. He powers off the microphone. Then taps his ear.

REYNOLDS
(Whispering)
Fire.

FELIX
Charges at Reynolds, knocking him down.

BANG!

JOHN
Falls down, dead. Blood oozes out.

THE WINCHESTERS
Watch on, the crowd continues it’s move. Dean spots Legion watching on from near the podium. They lock eyes.

DEAN
Sam, we have to leave, now.

FELIX
Helps Reynolds up, Reynolds pats himself down.

REYNOLDS
Did we get him?

FELIX
He’s dead.

Reynolds grins.

LEGION
Watches on as the Winchesters disappear into the crowd.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - IMPALA - MOMENTS LATER

Dean leans against the Impala, looks over at Sam pacing around.

DEAN
There was nothing we could have done.

SAM
We should have.

DEAN
And what Sam? Wind up dead just like John?

SAM
It’s my fault.

DEAN
What?

SAM
He’s dead because of me, if I hadn’t given in, if I was stronger and didn’t let my emotions override me, maybe he’d still be alive. Maybe many people would still be alive.

DEAN
You made a mistake. You’re human.

SAM
I need to do something. We need to save them, the next targets. I can’t let this happen to anyone else.

Sam exhales, looks out over the chaos then enters the Impala. Dean walks around to the drivers side and gets in. The Impala drives off.

EXT. CAPITAL BUILDING - NIGHT

A FEMALE REPORTER stands outside of the Capital Building facing a camera.

FEMALE REPORTER
We’re on the scene where just hours ago Henry Miller attempted to assassinate President Reynolds during a live speech given outside of the Capital Building. No one was harmed or killed during the shooting.

INT. PRISON - HALLS - NIGHT

HENRY MILLER, a middle aged well groomed man, is guided along the halls by the guard. NEWS CAMERAS track the proceedings. His eyes light up BLACK as a grin spreads across his face.

INT. WHITE HOUSE - OVAL OFFICE - NIGHT

Reynolds looks out over the white house lawn, Felix enters.

FELIX
What do you want me to do with the body sir?

REYNOLDS
Dispose of it.

Felix nods and leaves. Reynolds looks down towards the ground.

REYNOLDS
I hope you’re proud, Dad.

A wide smirk spreads across his face. He turns, sits down and takes out a file showing the same security footage of the next target.

PREVIEW SCENE:

EXT. DINER - NIGHT

Cars drive through the busy city streets, kicking up rain from the gutters. A small diner rests on the curb, inside Dean and Kate can be seen sitting by the window.

INT. DINER - NIGHT

Dean stares down at his barely touched food. Kate notices.

KATE
Anything on your mind?

DEAN
Just Sammy, the last case really hit him hard. I’m worried about him.

KATE
There wasn’t anything you could have done.

DEAN
Yeah, yeah, I know. But, he’s been blaming himself for it, for everything Samuel did. I feel kind of guilty leaving him alone like I did.

KATE
Why did you?

DEAN
I don’t know, he thinks they can be saved, these freaks.

KATE
What do you think?

DEAN
How many were ever good? I know I’m generalizing, but come on Kate. Sam’s the only one on the road of the righteous and even he took a detour.

KATE
So why spend your time trying to save someone who’s probably gonna go bad anyway?

Dean sighs, looks out the window.

DEAN
Probably think I’m some mutant hater, a mutist or whatever.

KATE
I think you’re just being honest.

DEAN
I think I may have figured out what we’re up against.

Dean pulls out a picture of Charles Martin, slides it across to Kate.

DEAN (CONT’D)
His name’s Charles Martin, Sam’s zeroing in on him. His power’s the ability to control hallucinations with his imagination.

KATE
What does this have to do with our case?

DEAN
I think that’s what we’re dealing with.

KATE
What? A mutant?

DEAN
Think about it. Chosen ones. Description that fits no monster we have ever heard of before. What if somehow he’s able to get inside our heads make us see things we don’t want to see? Make us afraid.

KATE
What’s the motive though?

DEAN
Getting rid of everyone he sees as below him. Wiping out humanity.

KATE
So, we’re looking for a mutant who controls fear on an ego trip?

DEAN
You have any better ideas?

Dean glances behind his back to see a news report showing signs of recent mutant activity.
