Wow. That's one word to describe it. But it personally wasn't the best episode of the season to me. They needed to have this episode in Season 2 or 3. Not in the 4th season when it is all about the Apocalypse.

But as for the episode, I loved it. I thought Adam brought into the twist really well. I'm just sad he's dead. :( Anyways there's 15 minutes left of the episode... (I'm not reading the spoilers)

But question, how could John have another kid? It's weird.

JB_Supernatural - April 24, 2009 02:01 AM (GMT)
WOW. That is all I really need to say...but
Spoliers Below

THIS episode was amazing. I like the twist and turns. i knew something was going on with the kid.
Well Keep it up SN Crew and Cast. Awesome.
WOW was Sam Bleeding a lot.

twilightjune6386 - April 24, 2009 02:04 AM (GMT)
If John ever did have another kid, let it be some hot young female that completely stuns Sam an Dean and really gives them a run for their money. Dean needs to have a little sister to protect that acts just like him.

jensenacklesfan77 - April 24, 2009 02:06 AM (GMT)
It was sad to see that Adam died...even before the boys could meet him for real. That's so sad.

Sammy's One & Only - April 24, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
Adam WAS their brother..The Ghoul said so.

I was so prepared for another brother, then "Adam" turns on Sam and Dean finds their real bodies and total 180, BAM. I was like, "Damn, Kripke does it again!"

wicca - April 24, 2009 02:10 AM (GMT)
from Wicca....I really like this episode. Knew there was something strange about Adam..... from not really showing Dean too much reaction to learning about John being a hunter. Loved Dean here....he is slowly becoming the Dean I loved in seasons 1,2,and 3. Dean is the best hunter out there(sorry Sam) but he really is. He was on alert mode from the beginning ...wanting answers , and putting on the suit. Sam has changed so much....that he really is acting like JW was. :( Also a big Shout out to Dean's not once....but twice using his missed S.O.B verbal trademark. :cheer

Angel325girl - April 24, 2009 02:11 AM (GMT)
I was surprised to learn that but I did get a Family Remains feel to it...How they moved around so fast...*shrugs*

Shaggy18cm - April 24, 2009 02:13 AM (GMT)
Can anyone please post a fast and short recap of the episode?
I don't get to see it for another 10 hours or so..and I'm anxious to find out about Adam :P

Aaricia - April 24, 2009 02:14 AM (GMT)
It will be on buddy.tv soon

dreamalittledreamofsam - April 24, 2009 02:17 AM (GMT)

xxstaindrosesxx - April 24, 2009 02:20 AM (GMT)
I personally liked the episode.

At first I didn't like the Adam kid but then after a bit I was like "He's not too bad looking."

There were a couple of good quotes in the eppie and Sam bleeding? Poor Sammy!

My only complaint is how come Sam couldn't like fight his way out with his powers? That really bugged me. I just kept waiting for him to try and get free.

Sam scared me a little bit with his speech. He sounded so bitter but I guess I sort of don't blame him. How he told Adam he couldn't have friends, a girlfriend, or anything. :( Poor Sammy!!!

He really has become a lot like John and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

JeffreyDahmer - April 24, 2009 02:20 AM (GMT)
I didn't think this episode was that great. The revelation was crazy, but it felt like a filler episode and not epic like the last few episodes have been.

I'm looking forward to next week.

Talos - April 24, 2009 02:21 AM (GMT)
I thought it was fantastic--much better than I thought it would be. I suspected Adam would be a fake, but he was and wasn't. The other twists were even better: Dean being the bro who wanted to protect Adam from the life; Sam being more like John than Dean ever really was...wow. I didn't see that coming. But it does make sense. Like John, Sam hungers for revenge--something we've never seen much from Dean. And, like John, Sam is secretive. Also, like John, Sam has become obsessed with the idea that the world is overrun with monsters and demons--that nowhere is safe.

I think Dean's anger towards Sam and John at the end stems from Dean's resentment about that secrecy. John kept Adam a secret all those years, just as Sam continues to conceal what he's doing to increase his powers.

The bleeding out of Sam was necessary. He's going to have to get powered up by Ruby--soon.

Anyway, I REALLY enjoyed this episode. (Ghouls! Finally!) So well written and perfectly directed. (Loved those creepy scenes in the crypt.) And the acting was sensational. The boy who played Adam Ghoul was excellent, but--sorry--I was very relieved we won't have to deal with the third bro again. (Please! No more Winchester swimmers getting past the goalie!...I think I'm mixing my sports metaphors.)

Sam said himself that his powers only work on demons, so I don't have a problem with him not being able to use them.

I like the fact that he can only use them on demons. It would be too easy if he could just wave his hand and the bad guy drops dead.

I think this episode said a LOT about where Sam and Dean are in their own personal headspaces AND in their relationship -- so in that sense I think it was VERY important to the overall arc....

In general, it isn't my favourite episode ever -- but I'm not sure why -- it may just be because of the really outstandingly awesome episodes we've had this year or I may have been expecting more Dean angst -- not just a lot of silent brooding -- but it was really a lot to jam into one episode...

I will need to watch it again... a few times... like always....

i agree it was sad to find a brother you never knew just to find him dead already...i think sam and dean are destined to lose EVERYONE that is family or even as close as "like family" i just hope they dont lose each other even if they do lose everyone else they care for or have ever cared for.

all in all a good episode, i sense some real gritty tension between sam and dean at the end. but not much real movement in the whole apocolypse storyline...that could be next week.

LoupGarouAngel - April 24, 2009 02:34 AM (GMT)
It was a great episode, I loved the twist, but the most awesome part on the writing end was making the real Adam their brother. Not all fans will be sad that he died before Sam and Dean got to meet him, but I really am. :(

xxstaindrosesxx - April 24, 2009 02:36 AM (GMT)
I am sad too! I think it is horrible they lost him and never knew about him. I blame that on Daddy Winchester but at the same time, I don't blame him for not telling. He didn't want Adam to have that kind of life that Sam and Dean had. He wanted to make amends almost, do it right the second time around.

malumfatum - April 24, 2009 02:39 AM (GMT)
hay every one this episode was great for me. i lived in windom minnesota for 19 years it is nothing like the town on the show. the episode was great.

D.H.X - April 24, 2009 02:40 AM (GMT)
Did anyone else notice that they made sure to show Sam drinking Ruby's blood in the intro and yet he didnt use his powers through the whole episode, but then how he was cut and lost alot of blood?

Im thinking thats hes gonna be alot weaker power wise, until he feeds again...

That's exactly what I thought too. Great. Ruby has to come back, of course :(
Hahah.

This wasn't really the best episode, but it was pretty good. I mean, I'm sad we didn't get to learn more about Adam..

I just hope that they boys don't go all depressed and brody over Adam not being alive. I don't want them being like, "There must have been a way to save him before..blah blah."

D.H.X - April 24, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
Anyone else notice how Sam asked Dean if he wanted to try and bring Adam back?

adder574 - April 24, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
I really liked this episode. I have to admit that I had my reservations but Kripke surprised me.

I think Dean is ready to step out from John's shadow and stop comparing himself to his father. Thats why, to me, this episode isn't filler. I think this is a step Dean needs to take, and it may help him in the next few episodes.

I really liked that we got part of what was said during the Stanford fight. I wonder if that was Kripke's way of working it in.

There was one thing, I wish they had included. It had nothing to do with my enjoyment of the the episode, but I wished they had had Adam mention Dean's amulet. It a bond between Sam and Dean and I would loved to have seen Adam ask about it, or had Dean lose it in the ventilation shaft and Adam wondering why he's so upset that its missing.

It only went to prove that there is NOTHING that Kripke and the writing crew can't pull off and pull off well. Not only was there another brother, but now that he's dead it's yet another thing that the boys have to live with.

xxstaindrosesxx - April 24, 2009 02:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah! Sam asked Dean if he could call on Cas and pull a favor? I'm like do you think Cas would go for that? NO!

I don't think Sam and Dean will be that sad about it since they didn't know the kid.

Talos - April 24, 2009 02:48 AM (GMT)
Very good points about John. I really liked the way that was handled. Maybe Sam and Dean were each a little jealous, but they didn't take the predictable route and hate John for paying more attention to Adam than to them. As Dean pointed out, he and Sam were born to the life. Adam wasn't.

As for John's hookup, it bothered Dean a little, but Sam's easy acceptance of the idea that his dad wasn't a monk balanced things out nicely. And it was interesting that Dean seemed to think in ELAC that John was celebate, whereas in this episode Sam seemed to know he wasn't -- and not just because of Adam's mom. I'm beginning to think Sam knew more about John than Dean ever did.

I'm hoping Castiel WILL go for that--if Bobby dies. :(

I don't think John had to much contact. Didn't Adam say that John was only in his life for a couple of years?

Yeah, but it's the fact that he did MORE with Adam than he did with Sam and Dean..I mean, did you see Dean's face after he saw the picture of Adam and John at a baseball game?

He was jealous/mad/annoyed..

xxstaindrosesxx - April 24, 2009 02:55 AM (GMT)
I really don't blame Dean for being upset. It's one thing to do teach Sam and Dean to hunt and survive, but he could have done those things with them too.

But no he only did them with Adam so yeah I would have been jealous too. Dean had every right to be upset. Sam wasn't upset because he never worshipped his dad like Dean did.

Yeah, it's really sad because Dean tried so hard to live up to his dad's expectations because being a good hunter seemed like the only way to gain John's affections, and here was this normal kid who went to a game with him.

Talos - April 24, 2009 02:58 AM (GMT)
I was kind of amazed at the generous responses of Sam and Dean towards "Adam." It just goes to show what good young guys they are.

Really. Would it have been so hard for John to take Sam and Dean to games or something on their birthdays? Maybe Bobby will give some insights into that in 21.

I feel sorry for Dean, too--more than for Sam, who seemed to know their father warts and all. I just hope Dean doesn't take out any growing resentment against John on his brother. Interesting how Dean said he idolized their dad, then went on to talk about Sam's similarity to John. Was Dean saying he used to put Sam on the same kind of pedestal, but wouldn't be doing that anymore?

xxstaindrosesxx - April 24, 2009 03:02 AM (GMT)
He probably didn't take them to any games or do anything outside of hunting, because the moment he went soft on them, then they would think he was going to do that all the time. It's kind of hard to discipline a kid that thinks you're going soft on them I guess. That's what I kind of got from it. He wanted them to be strong and on alert all the time.

He didn't really treat them like his kids at times. He treated them more like his army.

adder574 - April 24, 2009 03:04 AM (GMT)
I am giving this episode a 9/10.

I'm taking a point off for when Sam and Dean are going through John's journal, they find 2 pages that are ripped out.

With the number of times that Sam and Dean have been through it in the past four years, I just wonder why they wouldn't have commented on it.

Exactly. Instead of the way that Dean and Sam grew up. Adam had the normal childhood that the two boys wanted.

I mean, I don't get why John couldn't have told Dean and Sam? It was bound to come up eventually..

I think Adam had a normal childhood because of his mom. He said John showed up once a year and took him out. From what I gathered it was only about 4 or 5 times.

Sure it was wrong that he didn't do that with Sam and Dean, but you can make an argument that Sam and Dean had their father in a way that Adam never did. Sure John was gone a lot but when he was there, he taught them to hunt.

I'm not trying to say if its right or wrong, but John taught Sam and Dean to survive.

I mean if John had introduced Adam to the family business would he have been killed by the ghoul?

Guywiththegun - April 24, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
Good episode. I'm glad they didn't character assassinate John. He was a douche for never telling Sam and Dean, but hardly a deal breaker.

John still rules. My avatar stays.

::Fist-bumps with Sam Winchester::

LOVE the reversal btw, with Sam being loyal to John and Dean questioning it . . I feel like this is an episode I'll come to really appreciate after some time has passed.

8/10
