What did you think of this episode.
JB_Supernatural - October 31, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
AWESOME. Oh My that was amazing. It made me sit on the edge of my seat.
Shannon - October 31, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
I was wow, but I figured from the beginning of this season that Sam wasn't fully there. The stronger he fight, the faster the blood is pumping through his system.
I'm starting to wonder since Dean was down there for 40 years if he knows how it will end but if he knows then why isn't Lilith trying to kill him all over again? Dean knows something big and Lilith kind of gave him a clue in YF to listen to his heart. He's too worried about Sam and what he's becoming. God, it's killing me. I want to know what happened to him down there....cries....
Fiona - October 31, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
It was another awesome ep! Very very intense though...
A little concerned with Sam having a headache and his nose bleeding when he was using his powers.
red11 - October 31, 2008 02:07 AM (GMT)
I enjoyed it but its not my fav. of the season so far. Its one of thoese episodes that I will have to go back and watch again becuase I'm sure I missed some important info.
Even though the new angel is a "dick" I like him. I felt bad for Sam when he first met Castiel and Uriel. He was really let down by them.
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
it was an awesome eppy! very intense and very good.
but i still feel sorry for the boy that got eaten by that zombie. . .man! it was like BAM! gone and splatters of blood every where. sucks to be him. :blush
adder574 - October 31, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
I thought this episode was intense. I liked the bit at the end that Castiels orders were to follow Dean's.
The look on Dean's face when he saw Sam use his powers. Did anyone think Sam's eyes turned black when he was exorcising Samhain.

It kind makes me think of a kid who idolizes a sports star. They finally get to meet their hero and the guy turns out to be a jerk or something. Sam had a view of angels in his mind and I think he was severely let down buy Castiel and Uriel and how they acted.

I did, but I'm hoping it was just the lighting or something.
justinc83 - October 31, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
i like the fact that uriel threw in there about the anniversary of Sam's Mother and girlfriend's Deaths. It might be a small thing, but thats what makes this show so good.
justannanow - October 31, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
I liked it but I'm also a little disappointed but I don't know why. Yeah, I'm weird. :stupidme
I felt so sorry for Sam. Here is the Winchester who believed in God, who prayed, and who was so excited to be meeting Castiel. But then Cas and Uriel started treating him like the plague and it was just so heartbreaking for him, and for me to watch. And really what was he supposed to do at the end? Uriel didn't even have an answer for Sam when he asked that. He tried the knife and was getting the crap beat outta him. Was he supposed to be killed and let Dean be killed when he could stop it?
I also feel sorry for Dean in this one. No matter what he chose to do, he failed. He could sanction the murder of thousands of people before the fact, or he tries to stop one of the seals from being broken, which he failed at. And then to see Sam using his powers again and not knowing what will happen to him now. And then Cas puts more weight on his shoulders since now the angels are taking orders from him when he was looking to them for answers.
Shannon, Lilith wasn't really there in YF, that was all in Dean's head. So really he was telling himself those things. I still don't think Dean remembers hell yet, the blocks are still in place. But, God help him when those blocks fall.
Shannon - October 31, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
Black. I thought they turned white, but that have ma be from the lighting. I think when his eyes turn that color after using his powers, that means the blood is working. He's getting more evil. He's helping people but helping them the wrong way.
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
adder574 i think i saw sam's eyes turn black too. i must go look to make sure. . .
Lestat - October 31, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
I loved the episode. However it is the fisrt one that left me with more questions than answers:
1. Do angels really have free will? Uriel seemed inclined to disobey and did not seem worried about it.
2. Uriel told Sam that Dean should climb down from his high horse and to ask him about hell. I felt that he was suggesting Dean should be ashamed of something. In last week's episode it is also suggested that Dean has a secret.
3. Why would God want angels to be commanded by Dean?
4. If Sam has done nothing but good with his powers, and if humans have free will, what is the big deal about him using them?
5. Will the encounter with angels make Sam lose his faith?
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
i think the encounter with angles will make sam loose his faith, if it was me i'd be loosing mine. they were just complete dicks.

I have those same questions as well. Seems like Uriel is the bad one outta the bunch when it comes to him and Castiel.
I gotta say it was a very good episode...it gave us some answers plus it gave us some more questions that need to be answered.
Rated from 1-10...I'd say it was an easy 8, possibly 9 in my book.
xxstaindrosesxx - October 31, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
I felt bad for Sam too. Poor guy has so much faith and then he gets disappointed. I do not think his eyes turned black. I think that was from him squinting while using his powers and his eyes are kind of dark. Plus, his eyes have looked like that before from squinting. Plus, when someoens eyes turns a different color by surprise, usually there is some weird noise they throw in the background to let you know it's spooky. I didn't hear anything like that. Plus, I think if his eyes turned black, Dean would have been really freaked out like heart attack or stroke freaked out.
Although, I do have to admit that it was kind of creepy how Sam could send a demon like that back to hell, especially one that was supposedly supposed to be so powerful. That kind of disturbed me a bit but I think it's sexy when Sam uses his powers. *Drools*
I loved the episode. I thought it was nice that Sam finally got to meet the angels. I thought Castiel tried to actually be nice to Sam but Uriel...well what Sam said to him was true. I didn't like him one bit.
I did kind of get freaked out about Castiel saying he doesn't envy the choices Dean will have to make in the future. Kind of makes me wonder if Castiel doesn't know more about what will happen to Sam.
*Slaps Uriel for threatening Sam*

I thought it was great. Really there is not one ep I dont like this season. I loved Cass I thought he was cool and becoming more um humanistic i guess. Sam was Awesome I knoew he would have to use his powers again but he did it to save everyone, and it looked like Dean is becoming a tiny bit more excepting of it all, even telling Sammy to have faith.WOW i say to that. I am totaly rambling but I really liked this one. Ok thats it. YAY for our boys and Supernatural
rockchick26 - October 31, 2008 02:40 AM (GMT)
Here's my first thoughts:
Wasn't too impressed with the episode as a whole, there wasn't much we haven't seen before, wasn't much humor, and the best scene of the night only lasted 2 minutes. I was let down by the closing conversation between Castiel and Dean...why did Castiel say he doesn't know what is right or wrong anymore? What is his purpose, just to keep Uriel in check and make Dean confused?
I didn't HATE this episode though,there were a few noteworthy moments;
Sam,meeting Castiel... "Oh my God,ehh,uh,sorry,i didn't mean to..." LOL The hardest i laughed in the whole hour.
Dean's line,"Bring it on Stinky!" that made me laugh a little.
BEST SCENE: Sam using his powers again!! and being caught by Dean! Poor guy was bleeding and in pain AND being watched by his brother yet he kept on! I was saying to my tv "don't stop, sam!" I'm glad he didnt. I dont care what Uriel says,if Sam had stopped, they both would have ended up dead.
I was a bit let down by Dean's reaction to the Impala egging...why wasn't he more pissed!? That can eat away at your paint! He just didn't seem very upset about it,to me.
Overall i think i'd give it a 4 out of 10. And that 4 is entirely because of the excorsism scene.
lam - October 31, 2008 02:42 AM (GMT)
I liked it. My husband was jumping up and down he loved it so much!!! Strange man -- a total convert this season....
Sam's eyes definitely turned black.
I am very afraid about what we are going to learn Dean did in hell....
I felt so sorry for Sam when Castiel hesitated in shaking his hand -- but he DID shake it -- I think that Cas has been told what to think of Sam and it is going to take Dean to convince Cas of Sam's innate goodness despite the demon blood... Cas is already looking to Dean for direction!
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 02:44 AM (GMT)
yay stridersgirl dean saying have faith to sam really got me too. but i thought the eppy was good, at the end there had to be my fave with cas and dean. they humanized him and that's good. with uriel and sam's new view of angles we need a good angle.

It was also cruel, why would an angel taunt a human with something like that? I am sure they will be a lot of Uriel haters because of this and his whole attitude during the episode. By the way, a great actor, he really sold his character.
JustJess - October 31, 2008 02:48 AM (GMT)
I think uriel reminded Sam of those dates to drive hom the point of how he got his powers; from the demon blood. He called the YED Sam's father. I think Uriel woudl have preferred to smite the town with sam in it; basically he wanted sam to die. They woudl have saved Dean bc God's command is that Dean should live. But I think Uriel wants Sam dead whether its by his hands or by something else's.
In terms of free will I definitly think Uriel is being casted as a borderline rogue. In the next few eppys we wont know what side he is fighting on; his or God's. But we do know he HATES humans. Angels are creatures made to do God's will only yet we are given the ability to do our will or God's; our choice. I would think that would create some sort of animosity for some.
In this story line, I think Eric is taking a page from the bible where God would take things that seemed foolish to perform his greatest miracles. He owuld often use simple people whom you would never pick ina million years to lead great armies', and bring forth God's will. From a tactical standpoint its genius; the enemy never sees it coming. Dean is perfect for that bc he is not the most religious candle in the box. Far from it.
Sam using his powers for goos is only to lure and trick him into activating and cultivating them enough so they can take over and control him.
I think Dean while down under, participated and did evil things that he cant remember. Thats why Uriel said he should come off his high horse
crazy4jared - October 31, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
I thought this episode was awesome! The ending was one of the best so far :cheer
I really didn't like Uriel that much because he was being a jerk to Sammy, but I still love Castiel. I think Cas wants to give Sam a chance and the way he clasped his hands around Sam's, it was like he was reading him or something.
Great job on this one!

I've been doing it all day!! LOL Forgive me :)

yay, crazy4jared that hand shake - it seemed like there was more going on. like cas was trying to read him. i wonder. . .
danajeanne - October 31, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
I think the end of the episode would have worked better if they'd switched the brothers' scenes with "thier" angels. Dean and Castiel in a quiet scene first, THEN the power house scene with Sam and Uriel-- and wasn't that an awesome job Jared did? His facial expressions are so subtle while being powerful at the same time.
I like Uriel. He's one of those good bad characters.
And POOR SAM. He was so AWED to be meeting real angels; I almost died when Castiel didn't immidiately shake his hand. HOw that would have hurt Sam to be refused like that. And yet, how disappointed he ended up being when he realised that these angels weren't what he expected.
I'm glad he didn't set out to use his powers on Samhain-- he DID try and use the knife first, but once that option was gone he really had no choice. And Samhain must have been one powerful demon to take that much out of Sam.
I would have liked the scene with Dean watching Sam use his powers to have ended with a close up of SAM's face as he realises Dean saw him. We already know what Dean thinks of Sam using his powers so a fade out on Sam's expression would have been nice.
I was glad to hear that Castiel and Uriel are there to save Sam, that God thinks he has potential. There's still hope.
Sam's eyes didn't turn black on my HD TV.
spike31589 - October 31, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
it was awesome sam beating samhain and i think i finally know what the demon blood does you know the secret side effect of the headaches and his eyes going demon black. dean was awesome in the last scene and uriel was badass throughout overall 8.9/10

Apparently, which would explain the "fallen angel" stories, apparently they can disobey if they want to,but they'd be cast into hell then, like Lucifer supposedly was.

yeah it's no secret now that Dean has a secret LOL The way Uriel said it,it's really making me wonder, because he's implying that Dean thought he was king crap down there (or now, maybe)

God wants Dean to lead the angels and Azazel wants Sam to lead the demons...this is falling more into place with each episode!

I'm still unsure about that, well maybe cuz Sam's powers came from a demon so they are going to naturally give him evil tendencies and it would be harder for Sam to have free will? guess we'll have to see.

Sure is looking that way! Just like the angels made Dean find his faith. I love the whole yin/yang feel of this show!!
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 03:01 AM (GMT)
the yin/yang of the show is okay, but i really hope it doesn't fall into place with sam leading the demon army. what could possibly happen to make him go darkside anyway? i really wouldnt like the show if it went that way.

Great,we got another Gordon on our hands now! What's with the show having these African American Sam haters?
Swordstress - October 31, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
I think Dean's more fortunate in that he didn't have any expectations when meeting angels. Poor Sam; he's bought into the all-mercy-and-light preconception. I think things are going to go badly for poor Sammy. :(
I'm also afraid for Sam. While I don't think Kripke and Co. will take Sam totally evil, I fear for his disappointment in angels coupled with using his powers and his growing feelings of alienation with Dean. The more Dean disapproves, the more Sam draws away. These guys are going to have to be together to fight the ultimate evil. I have a feeling this season is going to get very uncomfortable between Sam and Dean.
:cry

I loved this eppy.. but honestly, I haven't disliked one yet.. My least fav was Meta.. but I even liked it for its bromance.. anyhow, this eppy was awesome..I loved that Sam got to meet Cas and we all met Uriel.. although Sam was highly let down with his first meeting... I also knew Sam would be forced to use his powers again and though they scare me to where they could lead, they are so totally cool.. that whole fight sequence was intense...
I also loved that the Impala got egged! How hilarious was that!!! Poor Dean! Poor Impala! I'd be hunting me some astrounaunt right about now!
Cas was awesome this eppy.. and redeamed himself greatly in the wake of Uriel who is now the winner of the "SPN Asshat"!
I also have so many questions about some of the things in this eppy... why does Dean need to be tested and why do angels need to follow his orders.. what does Sam using his powers mean... and what is Deans big secret.. Im getting really worried about what it might be! We have had two different anvils thown at us that he's keeping something big and dark.. and though I can't wait to find out what it is.. its scaring me a lot to think of what it is...
All in all, I can't give this eppy any less then a 10/10... I just loved it.. :D

What could make him go darkside? Well for starters, the demon blood...he even said he can't wash it away,so it will always be there inside him. Sure he could have fought it,but just like the guy in Metamophasis,he was pushed over the edge by one incident,i think for Sam that incident is this...he has lost faith in God and the angels, after meeting Castiel and Uriel. I think Sam is going to go on a downward spiral from here on out and one of the big decisions Dean will have to make will be to kill Sam if he can't save him.

I completely agree. And personally I think that, just like he had to decide to use his powers to save the town from the demon tonight, what would seriously push him over the edge would be Dean in danger beyond control.
ajj2001 - October 31, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
I loved it! Not the best, but remember last season? The first seven in this season are light years better.
Castiel didn't shake Sam's hand because he isn't familiar with the custom. Remember when he first met Dean? He was both confused and fascinated by Dean's behavior. He hasn't been among humans in 2000 years. He doesn't understand social graces.
I think he warmed up to Sam when not only did he shake his hand, but he gripped onto it. I think part of his mission is to spare Sam, and for he's valuable to Dean. He could end up being useful. That's what Uriel said at the end essentially, but Uriel is definitely lacking people skills.
The writing on this one was probably the weakest of the season, but man, the possibilities setup here are huge. We came out of this one with far more questions than answers, and they are scary questions. Sam can't avoid who he is, no matter how hard he tries. Dean knows it now too. I'm going for the rewatch now to ponder more questions, but I wonder that even though Sam defied the orders not to use his powers, maybe the angels are testing him too just like Dean. Maybe "stopping" Sam doesn't mean his use of powers after all.
Mid-Night Sun - October 31, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
maybe your right ajj2001, cas not being around people in 2000 years he just doesn't know the customs. i like that a lot more than he was just unwilling to shake sams hand. and maybe that explains why he held onto sams hand like that. but then it also looks to me like he was trying to read something from sam.
xxstaindrosesxx - October 31, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
I really liked the handshake with Castiel. To me it showed that Castiel might be open to trusting Sam. That he believes hope isn't really lost for Sam. It was awkward but at the same time, I kind of expected that because Castiel is this angel and here he is shaking the hand of someone who has demon blood in him.
I would actually like to see Castiel have some alone time with Sam. Like maybe Sam asks him if he knows anything. I like mopey Sam sometimes and I figure it would be an interesting scene.
The way Castiel acted made me wonder if maybe he didn't have another life at some point. He kind of sympathized with the humans and so it kind of made me feel like he really cares about them and that maybe at one point he was human. I'm not sure that is possible since in Houses of the Holy the priest told Father Gregory that men can't be angels. Well, who knows since they didn't even know angels existed until recently. Demons were once human so it kind of makes you wonder if maybe angels weren't human once too.
