Title: Episode 3.13 - Ghostfacers

digital_bean - June 9, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
Wow, I'm surprised no one has begun discussing yet. Everyone must be busy. Okay, I'll get the ball rolling. I only watched bits and bits of the episode, so I need to watch it as a whole before I can make my mind up. As far as I saw, I thought it was a very funny episode. I commend the writers for always to be trying fresh, even if it may not every fan will be pleased. My main problem was that Sam and Dean came in a bit too late. If they had come in earlier, then I wouldn't have minded the fact that they weren't emphasised as much in this episode.

Now, good points. It was funny funny funny. The duffel bag quote and the part where his dad comes into the garage are the moments I can remember offhand. The swearing and cursing, censored of course was also hilarious, go Dean!

All to do now is wait for the numbers. TEN had promoted this as promised, and in my opinion it was very effective. Gotta love those new ads - the Jensen ones mostly. If the numbers are great, then that should give TEN even more reason to continue the good work, aside from the fact they should be doing it anyway.

ETA: Sorry if I'm doing your job here Nikki, I really just wanted to share my thoughts and get discussion started.

I absolutely loved this episode and was very surprised by how clear the images were considering the format. :)

Humour is always a very, very subjective topic and can almost always be guaranteed to create a very lively debate/discussion. Like many Supernatural episodes, the more you watch Ghostfacers, the more you pick up things you missed and realise what a really well done episode this was.

I believe the ratings are not what most would have hoped for but please remember this is a long weekend for most of Australia therefore viewing audiences are down anyway. The show didn't start till about 9.50pm and network Ten look more at the 18 - 49 demographic than just overall numbers. Hopefully Ten will promote Supernatural as much in the next three weeks as they did in this last week and then we should see an increase in the numbers in the coming weeks.

digital_bean - June 9, 2008 07:54 AM (GMT)
Are the ratings out now? If they are, can you post a link please. Thanks.

And I agree. I've heard complaints about the use of a camera POV, but I didn't think it was bad at all. The image was clear and I didn't feel nauseous. Cloverfield made me nauseous.

I agree, comedy episodes are a sticking point. Some fans just want pure horror. Kripke said it was like a mini-horror movie every week. He's not saying it is a horror movie. So it doesn't need to be a constant gore fest. Nor does it need to be always angsty. It's something I love about Supernatural. They're able to make absolutely hilarious episodes.

The more I talk and think about this episode, the more I love it. I suppose it really does grow on you. I hope TEN continues to promote the episodes, as well as Season four. I really want it to do well.

Sure can digital_bean, the site I use to check the ratings is TVAus.com.au and usually they show what the most watched shows for the night are like so:

Last Sunday night Flight of the Concord was on at 10.10pm and had a viewing audience of 481,000 with Rove on from 9.00pm - 10.10pm and a viewing audience of 819,000.

I have always enjoyed reading other opinions about shows I love but it is always more enjoyable when you find someone who shares a similar viewpoint. The following is a link to a blog I love to read after each episode. Might be a bit long for some but I love reading!

digital_bean - June 9, 2008 08:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks for those! I think I've seen Bardic's reviews around here as well.

And I can't help but fret with 600,000 - considering it was a returning ep. I'm not too worried, just a little concerned I suppose. I will factor in that I'm comparing it to the days where Supernatural would garner around 800,000 but that was in the 8:30 slot. I suppose lots of viewers have an early bedtime, be it for school, work or another reason.

I'll admit, I can't stand people who dislike Supernatural. I respect their opinions, but I don't like staying in a discussion which is critical of one of my favourite shows. I find it much more fun and energising to talk with fans of the show, who may have their criticisms, but at least being fans, we all share common ground.

I hope next week we fare better.

Dean's_Gal - June 10, 2008 05:56 AM (GMT)
I loved this eppy, I was laughing through the whole thing. :rotfl
I didn't mind that the guys came in late.

I did like the 2 fools doing the fake slow walk in the begining :rotfl the Dean swearing was brilliant, as was the end when he erased everything. I'm going to watch it again tonight as I taped it. Dean was a classic in thie seppy, plus it was still a very well put togther episode and that story line was good and very creepy.

Can't wait for next week. :cheer

SalemXWP - June 10, 2008 02:18 PM (GMT)
I liked this episode a lot more than I thought I would. Not that I knew much about it beforehand, but I wasn't that fond of Ed and Harry from their first episode. But they didn't bug me this time, so, yay to this episode :) The bleeped out swearing was funny, and I ended up with the Ghostfacers theme song stuck in my head :P

Maybe it got lower ratings because it was a long weekend. People might have been away.. camping or something. I don't know, whatever it is people do on long weekends.

Silvertayl - June 10, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
 Can't say that GHOSTFACERS was my favourite episode, not enough Sam and Dean for me and sure it had it's funny moments but... it was no where near as funny as say: BDABR, which I thought was the funniest episode I've ever seen to date. As for the ratings the total amount of Aussie viewers for Ghostfacers was 1,191,000 not bad for a poulation of only 22 million :clap

i liked this episode it was cool
it was funny too
bring on next weeks episode

JammasterJ - June 11, 2008 06:49 AM (GMT)
I really liked this episode. I think it was a good idea to put a light hearted episode on before what I am sure is going to be 3 very intense episodes!

I loved the duffle bag quote as well, so well delivered. " inside the salt you idiot"

Also loved the one where Dean moved the cupboard that was blocking the door to the fallout shelter and the guy with the camera says "dude, your strong" and Dean flips him off.

I really liked how we got to see the guys through the eyes of someone else. It was kinda like we had never met them before and its what other people on the show would see them as.

Can't wait for next week.

Those ratings aren't that bad. It looks like we kept most of the viewers from Rove

The duffle bag/salt thing was hilarious :rotfl

That's interesting, I didn't think of it like we were seeing them through their eye's

Hating to be the bearer or bad news.....but we only got 595,000.

The result you got was from adding up all the numbers beside SN yeh? Well, the first number usually shows the total viewers, then the rest show how many people watched in melb, syd, adel, bris and perth. so, i wish it was in the millions...but that figure well and truely disappeared with the 8.30 timeslot. ;)

and no problems about starting this thread John!!! I'm busy with exams this week anyways, so i didnt have the time  . you did me a favour! :P

smileandwave - June 12, 2008 04:54 AM (GMT)
Hi guys

I liked the ep, I agree that it is probably a light-hearted one before some very heavy ones. Altho' it was a bit too light on Sam & Dean for me, particularly brotherly moments etc, so is not one of my favourites. It did get quite creepy and reminded me a bit of 'Blair Witch Project' (with the hand-held camera & suspense), and I thought they mixed the more serious bits with the funny bits effectively. After all, poor old Corbett did die. I did wonder how they explained to the police or whoever how he died....

But just so pleased to have it back on TV at all, am looking forward to the next three - I have managed to stay (mostly) spoiler-free....

BTW in Melbourne SN was a good 10-15 minutes late for no reason whatsoever, meaning we had to watch the end of Rove, which was excruciating to watch Jack Black have to sit there with a generally unfunny bunch of people. (Just IMO!).

Anyhoo, glad to have a new ep to discuss with you all, have a good week & roll on Sunday...

Dean's_Gal - June 12, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah Rove ran about 10 mins late

JammasterJ - June 12, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
Rove probably ran late because Big Brother ran late. SN always suffers from BB running overtime. We need to be back on at 8.30 so we can get some more viewers

Dean's_Gal - June 12, 2008 09:00 AM (GMT)
Actually BB finished on time. I watched Rove and it started at 8:30 pm on the nose.

digital_bean - June 12, 2008 09:07 AM (GMT)
I just wanted to add that I'm extremely happy with TEN in terms of promotion. I've been seeing that ad for episode fourteen often.

And I really hope our numbers get better. Even at this kind of time slot, were were around 700,000.

Dean's_Gal - June 12, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
I saw the Jensen promo again tonight, but I haven't seen another add for the new eppy since Sunday night.
If I watched channel 10 more I probably would see it.

digital_bean - June 12, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
Good way of looking at it JammasterJ. This is the only time we get to see the brothers from somebody else's perspective and that idea is making me like this episode even more.

And Rove ran late here in Sydney as well, about ten minutes, but I'll let it pass this time. Too tired to be mad

And the dufflebag and salt thing was a classic

ETA: I never ever see the Jensen promo on TV, just the episode promo one. But again, I'm happy for any promotion at all. Just need those numbers to go higher...

Silvertayl - June 12, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
Upps, sorry I didn't realize that total meant total No. of viewers, I thought it meant total No. of viewers for Sydney, Melbourne etc. I agree we need an 8.30 timeslot to bring up the numbers. :(

That's what I thought too, really there's no reason for Rove to run over time.

I've only seen the episode promo a couple of times, and haven't seen the Jensen promo at all on TV (seen it on youtube :D ). I haven't seen an ad since the ep tho' - has anyone seen an ad this week? I haven't been watching a lot of TV as my faves (except SN) have all finished (Lost, House etc.).

JammasterJ - June 13, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
I have seen heaps of SN promos on 10. I haven't seen the Jensen promo's though, just the ones for the show. Maybe with Jared coming out soon they will film some Promos with him. They may also try and get him on Rove and some other shows, Jensen had poor timing where there weren't that many talk shows filming for him to go on. I would love to see Jared standing next to Rove, he would make him look so tiny!

I did see the add for SPN last night during Medium... and last night I saw the Jensen promo before or during neighbours.... it does seem to be on around that time (well that's when I have seen it anyway)

SalemXWP - June 13, 2008 09:18 AM (GMT)
I see promos all the time, but that could be because I watch too much television.. I even see them during the late show with david letterman.

I think I recall Rove saying last week that the show will be filming on the gold coast the weekend jared is in sydney, so, I don't know if that would ruin things. maybe they'll fly him there to be on it, or do a satellite interview. Or he could just end up on Good News Week. I hope we get some new promos with him at least :)

dean_an_sam_rock - June 14, 2008 03:09 AM (GMT)
Normally they havent shown promos til like 3 days before SN...but i saw one on tuesday...so channel 10 is picking up there act!! Finally!

Now let the ratings roll in..... :P

sweetsugarcandyman - June 15, 2008 06:08 AM (GMT)
I was extremely happy with the episode. It was really funny but it also creeped me out a lot. It has brought up season 3 in my eyes as some of the eps this season have been a bit of a let down.

I hate the new time slot, mainly because all the shows before hand suck and always run over time. its amazing that they cant seem to run a show in its allocated time.....

cant wait for tonights ep.
